Just two siblings playing. On opposing sides, might I add. That are painted so beautifully and full of symbolism.

He titles himself Lord of the Earth but she is the Queen of ME, if not the Earth (that name belongs to Kementári, her kin - I guess that makes Melian the Princess of the Earth whose dominion should currently be Middle-Earth, but she is challenged by Sauron on it and so she only has Doriath??).

It's clear how all life flows to her, deserting him. Even the stones look like her wings. It's true fire can be a creative force as much as a destructive one, but he has too often chosen the latter for some ages now.

And with that attire Melian certainly looks the part of Pocahonthas, protecting both the nature and her people.

P.S.: I found it funny how she clenches her whole fist meanwhile he's just using his index finger all the while looking equally focused. 😁😇

Better yet, the reason there was no German edition is that before printing, the Nazi German publisher wanted Tolkien to prove that he was of Aryan ancestry.

He did not take kindly to that, and wrote a response, quoted below, which must rank among the most eloquent "Go fuck yourselves" in history (though its unclear IIRC if it was ultimately sent- also content warning for a word that is now considered a slur):

i think he had very complicated feelings about it, of course. can you imagine how it insane it was for him to see his dad for the first time and realise the reflection he sees in the mirror is the exact same one he saw in front of him at that moment? i am of the belief that tom thinks his good looks are not vital to his goals or wtv, he probably feels bitter that he's got his dad's face (and name) and nothing else. i bet he's also thankful that he didn't look like his uncle either though. it's a weird thing honestly, a dichotomy in the sense that he's grateful and repulsed.
