If you get a random dm asking about your F/O, keep in mind that this is a type of scam.

Of course, not every single person asking about your F/O is a scammer, but these accounts tend to have AI generated pfps (which might be cropped or harder to detect) and other tells.

Generally, be suspicious if the account has little stuff on there made by themself, like no pinned personal post, no tags on posts they reblog and such. Some of these accounts reblog a lot, but you'll notice they reblog directly from the OP of these posts and never add tags either. Their bio may either be blank or have bios with emojis that imply they are an artist or have commissions open. They might post commission examples which are usually stolen art or AI, or spammy posts with a bunch of nonsensical or popular tags.

This is because this is a variant of an ao3 fanfic commission scam (this person has more posts talking about multiple different scams across tumblr and ao3 if you'd like to learn more), but now they're asking about F/Os instead of fanworks or OCs. They will try to get you to commission them to draw for you, and if you do, then they will give you either AI generated images, traced AI, or they'll trace others' art.

Another one messaged me, so I'd like to give more examples.

So, off the bat, this is the scammy message. Not sure why they start it all like that, but you can see the similarities between this one and the previous scam message I got.

Other things that pop out to me: Three word username. If you didn't know, when you make a tumblr account, you can let tumblr randomly make a username for you. These usernames are a combination of three random words.

Going onto the profile:

The bio DOES look like something a person would have, and the pfp appears to be fanart (i reverse searched it and it appears to be between two twisted wonderland characters, but I couldn't find the source of the image itself). The bio and pfp may have been taken from other legitimate bloggers.

But when you scroll on their blog, there's the reblogging I mentioned. No personal posts, no commentary or tags, and there's nothing more than these 4 reblogs. They reblog directly from the OP. Going off of reblogs alone, this blog is only 3 days old. There is no post where they talk about themself, or their f/os or interests.

So, what do you do when you recieve a message like this? You can report it as spam and block.
