Iceland knitted his brows lightly before he shook his head quietly,Ā āI donāt want whipped cream on it, pleaseā¦ā He said, not being able to picture that whipped cream on top of a smoothie would taste good. At least that wasnāt something heād be willing to try ā not right now.
Orgasmic. NjĆ”ll shuddered a little, a blush spreading over his cheeks while he sent Siu-chun a small look; but he couldnāt help but snort faintly to himself,Ā āThen we definitely need to try it so we can settle the debate.ā He agreed.
āTheyād hate us for a very long time, and probably refuse to even look at us out of pure spite.ā He said in a low voice, having turned a bit more towards Hong Kong so the sound of his voice didnāt reach the lady ā he didnāt mean to insult her or her way of caring for her pets, but it did look like a bit too much, to dress her dogs up like that and push them around in a buggy.
āA secret surprise? Heh, ókei then. Iāll get us a seat.ā He said, giving Siu-chunās lower back a small rub,Ā āLet me know if you need help to carry stuff.ā He spoke, before he left his boyfriend in the queue to go claim them a seat. True enough, there were charing stations by the booths by the windows, and luckily for the teens, one was free. Iceland took it, scooting in so he sat by the window.Ā
While he waited for Hong Kong, he plugged their phones into their chargers and let them on the table. He glanced over to the other teenager, but reminded himself that he shouldnāt be too curious right now since heād only ruin the surprise Siu-chun had planned for him. So he instead began to look through some pictures on his camera, muttering to himself wether or not they were any good while he waited. Either for Hong Kong to come over to him, or call his name for him to come help carry their orders.Ā
While the zombified office worker's order didn't involve any sort of syringe, Hong Kong had to stare as the bewildered baristas brew no less than twelve shots of espresso for the man's plain, black coffee. Minutes later, he took his now vanta black drink and shakily made his way to the door. At least he was considerate enough to implode outside of the store.
"...Was that even legal?" Siu-chun snorted as soon as he came up to the register, amused that the poor girl still seemed confused by the whole ordeal. Shaking his head, the young nation began his order, making sure to specify that the smoothie would be whipped cream...less. Because his boyfriend was so horribly vanilla when it came to food.
Ah well. At least he was adventurous where it mattered.
A few minutes later, Hong Kong was carefully balancing two drinks, three sandwiches, a bowl of soup, and a number of baked goods on a large tray. The cake pop bouquet was safely tucked away in his jacketās chest pocket, just in case some spillage occurred. He considered calling Iceland for help, but didnāt like the idea of leaving their phones completely unguarded...especially here. Not to knock New York City, but he knew what could happen in large cities, mostly due to being one himself.
āFoodās here~ā he announced, placing everything neatly onto the table. Well, trying to, at least.Ā āI got a bit of everything that looked interesting; hope you donāt mind. They had a few things with blueberries, but I couldnāt decide between a scone or a muffin so...I got both.ā A decision any sane person would make, really.Ā āYour surprise comes after the meal, so do yourself a favour and leave some stomach room for it.ā

Iraklis gave a nod after a moment of thinking; Hong Kong was saying something. Still, despite all of his colleagues technically being old enough to drink alcohol, the physical appearances of some of them would make him feel extremely wrong if he served them alcohol. Hong Kong was on the line to be old enough though, wasnāt he? So had he served alcohol to him, Iraklis wouldnāt feel nearly as bad about it like he would if it had been some of the micro-nations, such as Sealand as an example.Ā
āIām glad I guessed correctly with you then. Iāve met a few people who doesnāt like the taste of pineapples whatsoever, so Iām glad you do.ā He said, sipping from his own drink ā a simple gin and tonic.Ā
The sound of delight coming from his guest made him smile a little; he felt as if he was doing a pretty good job at being a host for the teenager. He had to do his best, since Hong Kong had gifted him a very expensive present.Ā
Greeceās eyes perked up in interest when Siu-chun spoke of what would make his drink even better, and he listened with care. āDo you want a mango? I can cut one up for you.ā He offered, setting his drink down and already standing up from his seat. Heād gladly do whatever he could to make Hong Kong happy while he was here, and on the other hand, he loved being in the kitchen anyway.Ā
āAnd I do agree with you, completely. Tropical fruits are the best for sure. Theyāre refreshing, sweet, and packed with good vitamins your body needs.ā He smiled to himself, finding forth a cutting board and a knife to cut the mango up.Ā
āI know of...one person who doesnāt care for them,ā he shrugged.Ā āBut I figure itās probably a cultural thing, yāknow? When you grow up with a cuisine completely devoid of flavour, anything thatās got more taste than a dusting of table salt would probably be too much to handle at first. Itās kinda sad, really,ā Siu-chun sighed dramatically, taking a sip of his drink.
He barely had time to register what Iraklis had offered before the other nation made his way back into the kitchen. Siu-chun frowned, slightly offput that he was so eager to escape the conversation. When he realised it was all to bring him a mango, however, all was immediately forgiven. He'd ditch whomever he was speaking to to eat a mango too - it really couldn't be helped.
"Not to be a total pest, but could you cut up two, maybe?" Hong Kong called back. "Unless they're like, super rare and expensive here or something...then maybe just one and a half."
See? He could totally be a considerate house guest. Sometimes.
"Hey, are all these cats yours, by the way?" Siu-chun asked, reaching out to pet a rather fluffy one that had quietly sat on his foot. "You've got almost twice as many as gou gou...that's a pretty big achievement." Not necessarily a good one, but an achievement nonetheless.Ā ā...Theyāre a lot nicer than his though.ā

āI have, but only in Denmark and Norway. And they donāt have nearly as much to choose from as they do here. Iām a little overwhelmedā¦ā NjĆ”ll admitted quietly, sucking in his lower lip to anxiously bite down onto it while he stared at the boards with the many, various drinks the place had to offer. He began reading them all, until Siu-chun spoke of fruit smoothies. His eyes then immediately began to search for those on the board instead.
āJÔ⦠Splitting the foods up sound like a good idea. A sandwich sounds good.ā He agreed; that way he could try more of the selection they had to offer, without stuffing himself completely in an unhealthy way in order to try it all.Ā
He blinked a little when Hong Kong suddenly squeezed himself out of the queue, and his first reaction was to follow him when he remembered that they were queueing. So the Icelander stood firmly in place, watching Siu-chun from the corner of his eye while he tried to decide what the heck he was going to order to drink. A fruit smoothie sounded good, but which flavour should it be?
He had finally decided to have an orange and mango smoothie when Siu-chun came back, giving him a thumbs up,Ā āReally?ā He asked with a small smile,Ā āYouāre the best, Hong. Iād like an orange and mango smoothie then, please.ā He asked, folding his hands behind his back while the queue moved a few steps forward.Ā
NjĆ”llās gaze moved a little, and he accidentally made eye-contact with one of the dogs in the baby buggy in front of them, and he stared a little in disbelief for a moment, before the woman shifted on her feet and he quickly looked back to Hong Kong with a look of confusion.Ā
"Of course~ What kinda arsehole would make the birthday boy pay for his own lunch?" Hong Kong asked, though a few familiar faces immediately sprung to mind. "D'you wanna see if they'll add whipped cream to that? Packing on empty calories for the sake of flavour is the American way, after all."
Iceland could probably use the extra sugar as well, after the long flight.
āOther than that, I suppose we could try the chipotle chicken sandwich. Looks a bit spicy, but at least our drinks are gonna be cold.ā Then again, after being subjected to Sichuanās 'cooking' while growing up, he doubted anything here would be half as traumatising. "And maybe one of the bacon ones... I wanna see what all the fuss is about. Cuz like, it's good, y'know? Orgasmic? Debatable," he shrugged.
Siu-chun noted the other look of confusion and glanced back at the dogs in the buggy, coughing to mask a laugh. He hadn't noticed it in his rush, but the poor things were also dressed up in what looked like tutus and baby booties... Surely this counted as some sort of animal abuse?Ā
"It's totally weird, right?" he said quietly, unable to hide his amused smirk. "Could you imagine KĆŗtur or VB in one of those things? And dressed like that? They'd disown us."
The queue moved a few steps forward as a pair of customers gathered their order. Now the only thing between Hong Kong and the cashier was a very tired looking businessman with eye bags that matched the colour of his suit. He could only assume the man was going to ask for eight shots of espresso to be injected directly into his veins.
"Hey Ice? You wanna go grab a seat so we wonāt have to wander around with our hands full? I think the booths by the windows have charging stations - my phone's barely clinging to life right now." He offered NjĆ”ll his Android, trusting that the other nation wouldn't start thumbing through his gallery as soon as he was out of sight. Not that Siu-chun had much to hide, other than a few self indulgent selfies. "I'm also gonna order a secret surprise for you, so you should like, shoo, before it's ruined."

hellasgraeciā:
Iraklis shook his head, but Hong Kongās question made him wonder; was a hug and cheek kisses too personal as a greeting? He normally didnāt hug people a lot when he greeted them, only when he thanked them. The cheek kisses were consistent though. And who was NjĆ”ll? Oh thatās right, heās that strange kid from the Nordic family. Iraklis kept that thinking to himself.Ā
The Greekās guest was left to himself for a few minutes, while the sound of rummaging around was heard from the kitchen. The sound of a blender made one of the many cats on the floor twitch its ear and look up in the direction of the kitchen, but since no sounds connected with their feeding time could be recognised, it lay back down again to sleep with a sigh.
Iraklis returned with two different drinks glasses in his hands and handed Hong Kong a highball glass with a yellow-ish looking drink, with a pineapple slice on the edge and a straw in it. His own was a regular drinking glass with a cucumber slice in the clear drink.
āI couldnāt remember if youāre old enough to drink alcohol, so I made you an alcohol free piƱa colada.ā He explained as he took a seat in his sofa angled next to the chair Hong Kong sat in,Ā āIf you want alcohol in it though, itās not a problem.āĀ
Siu-chun mumbled a quiet 'thank you' as he took his glass, golden eyes lighting up at the sight of his forbidden lover. It had been ages since he'd last tasted fresh pineapple - he wasn't sure if the spiky fruit was a specialty in Greece, but the one Iraklis had used to garnish his drink looked delightfully sweet and perfectly tart. ...Just like him~Ā
Before he began attacking the juicy chunk like a wild animal, Hong Kong cast a curious glance towards his hostās drink, having never seen one that involved cucumbers. Or maybe it was lime?
"I'm pretty sure all of us are old enough to drink, except some of the micronations,"he said, plucking the pineapple from the rim and sucking on it for a moment. Ah. This definitely counted as cheating. "Physically though? No, 'm not. I like piƱa coladas though~ Especially the 'piƱa' part."
Siu-chun took a small sip, making a delighted sound at its sweetness. There was an artificial aftertaste to it - the same cloying, syrupy taste that was prominent in many American sodas. Maybe that was why the normal version had alcohol added to it...?
"Y'know what'd make this even better?" he asked, not really expecting the other man to answer. "Mangoes. Like, when I visited Hawaii a couple years ago, there was this fruit punch ice thingie made with guava, pineapple, and mango... It was seriously delicious," Hong Kong gushed, almost drooling at the memory. "Tropical fruits are the best~"

Iraklis blinked a little whilst staring at Hong Kong when he began to speak of being in a happy and committed relationship. A puzzling expression overtook the Greekās face for a moment with his brows furrowed, before he loosened his whole expression up into a sheepish smile,Ā āIām very sorry, I do apologise. What I just did is a custom of greeting and gratitude here. I wasnāt hitting on youā¦ā He explained calmly, though he did feel a little embarrassed for embarrassing his guest.Ā
āI sometimes forget that itās mostly a southern European thing.ā He added with a small sigh, rubbing his neck lightly while he glanced to the side for a second. Ah well; he gathered his posture again, deciding to let this awkward situation slide into the past ā hopefully Hong Kong would do the same, so he wouldnāt leave from here thinking Iraklis had been hitting on him, and trying to get him into his bed.
āPlease, make yourself at home. Iāll be right back.ā Iraklis then said, gesturing to his living room, with the many, stuffed bookshelves along the walls, where there werenāt any windows. A few cats in various colours lay spread out on the tiled floor in order to cool down, leaving the sofa and chairs for his guest to freely take a seat in. The Greek man then left his guest to himself, while he began to mix something fruity and refreshing together in the kitchen for Hong Kong to drink.Ā
"You weren't?" he blinked, both relieved and somehow, slightly offended. "...Oh. Seems a little personal for a greeting, don't you think? I mean, you're only the second person to do that outside of my family." That seemed really pathetic, now that he'd said it out loud. "But...that's good. I was about to call NjƔll to apologise and beg for forgiveness."
Now he'd just do all that via text~
He stood awkwardly after Iraklis left for the kitchen, looking around the small house for somewhere to sit. There were an awful lot of cats everywhere, more than even Yao kept in his strange furry colony. Siu-chun could never quite understand the appeal of having so many animals, mostly because he didn't like the idea of choosing a favourite. His brother always claimed that he adored all his cats equally, but Hong Kong had never believed him. Having a favourite...whatever was just a natural thing that happened when you had more than one of something, whether it be pets or dessert rolls.
Or colonies.
Carefully stepping over the mound of cats, the young nation plopped into a cozy armchair and slipped his sandals off before pulling his feet up. The surrounding books looked very thick and academic, and the few that didn't had photos of naughty bits on the covers. Hong Kong didn't really want to know what those were about.

Iceland bit his lower lip to hold back an expression that was just about to form into a grin on his face. But he kept his cool while a few thoughts crossed his mind; surely Hong Kong would give him plenty of opportunities to properly compliment him later, and even in private where NjĆ”ll didnāt have to hold back with his compliments, or fear weird looks from people who might accidentally overhear him. Heād only get weird looks from Siu-chun, and those he could live with.
āAnd Iām not a professional photographer, nor am I going to be in the photos, so⦠JĆ”, letās go.ā NjĆ”ll said, letting the camera hang down around his neck, against his chest, while the two of them made their way to the closest Starbucks for something delicious to drink, and a snack. On the way, Iceland took Hong Kongās hand in his, and swung them lightly in a playful way while they walked and talked.
It felt relieving for the socially anxious Icelander, once they stepped into a surprisingly silent Starbucks, and got away from the buzzing street outside. In fact he found it so relieving, that he let out a heavy breath in pure delight.Ā
āWhat can you recommend, elskan?ā NjĆ”ll asked his brand-knowing boyfriend while he stared at the boards listing the many drinks the coffee chain had to offer,Ā āIād like something sweet, but⦠not coffee, heh.ā He said, finding it kind of stupid since they were standing inside a coffee place after all.Ā
"Haven't you been to a Starbucks before?" Hong Kong asked, reading through the menu. There were a number of items that he'd never seen before, though also some that were missing, mostly in their tea selections. He was curious about the artisan sodas, as well as whatever a Cupcake Frappuccino was. Did they actually add baked goods to the drinks here? Dang. God bless America indeed. "Hn. They have fruit smoothies and sodas...I don't think those have coffee in 'em."
At least, he really hoped they didn't.
"I'm getting one of the cupcake drinks. Y'know, for the 'gram. D'you wanna split some of the hot foods too? The have sandwiches and quiches in the case. And like...soup." They all looked pretty normal, which was somewhat disappointing. He was expecting at least half of them to be deep fried and coated in bacon or cheese.
Seeing that there were still a few people ahead of them, Siu-chun ducked out of the queue to get a better look at the desserts. It involved squeezing past a rather large woman with an even larger baby buggy...which held a pair of small dogs, instead of children.
"...Right," he mumbled, shaking off his shock before turning to back the case. Thankfully, there was still a healthy selection of cake pops to choose from - he planned to buy at least one of each flavour to make NjƔll a makeshift 'bouquet' before their actual birthday date later that evening.
He quietly squeezed back into line, giving the Icelander a cheery thumbs up.
"I'll pay for this one, ākay? You can get anything you want."
