Man… where do I even begin about this artist? D’Angelo was one of my biggest inspirations.

I still remember back in middle school when our teacher asked us to bring in song lyrics that felt like poetry — words that made a difference in our lives. I brought in Devil’s Pie by D’Angelo. The way my teacher looked at me in disgust, I’ll never forget it. She didn’t understand the meaning behind that song. Calling it misogynistic and horrid. But as I stood there explaining it in front of the class, something clicked, I realized his music spoke to people like me in a different way. The essence of the song was describing the ugliness in the world like greed, lust, and other sins and he’s just trying to point acknowledge that and how he’s trying to get rid of it from his own life.

I always told myself that one day I’d see him in concert, or get my vinyl signed. I remember hearing The Roots for the first time around that same time, and wondering how someone could make music that raw, that spiritual.

It’s crazy how life brings you up and down — but music always finds a way to save your soul.

He’s the reason I started making clothes. A lot of people don’t know that. I try to make clothes that look like music — and so many of my collections are inspired by Voodoo.

Rest in peace, D’Angelo. Your sound will always live through us. 🕊️🎶

She looked absolutely beautiful as always, this was one of the funnniest dates and cutest we have been on.

I won’t be long with this one, but when I first got there, I went to drop off flowers so they would already be there when she arrived. I ran into this older white woman, and she and her friend started complimenting the flowers, saying they were cute, romantic, and very thoughtful.

Fast forward to when we finally got to the restaurant together, we ended up sitting right beside them. I had already signaled to them earlier to stay quiet because there was going to be a little surprise. When the hostess brought out the flowers, they started recording us for like five minutes straight, even after she got them. It was such a nice moment and a really good date overall.

Everyone thought it was her birthday, even the waiter brought out a little birthday treat for her. There were two girls sitting beside us who were actually celebrating their own birthdays, and they even gave us their shots since she doesn’t like tequila.

At one point, I told her that I believe she is the one, that she is the only girl I am focused on, and if I am the only guy she is focused on, it honestly eats me up inside. But she said I was which made me feel lighter.

I told her I like the time we spend , I do want to do big hooray and ask her to be mine officially. I already feel like she is, but I know I have to do the official thing of these days in society. But I’m glad we got to discuss that even though it was extremely hard and anxiety inducing to do so. Proud of myself for doing that and I’m happy that it went well and she responded the way that I imagined. I think she’s a keeper, scratch that I know she’s a keeper.

Im learning to take time for myself and acknowledge my wins no matter how big or small they are. Over the course of 2021, I lived my dream to the fullest. Had the chance to intern at one of the biggest fashion houses in the world and receive a scholarship from them. At the same time intern at a renown program here in Toronto, and all while doing all of this i graduated from college and got accepted into university. Never thought I would be here, but I kept positive and pushing even with mental illness being at all time low. I am forever grateful. 

2022, i will be pushing for newer height while taking time to smell the roses.
