He did think she was better than him. Willow had suffered similarly to himself, but at least she'd stayed in her children's lives. Though she was right at the core of the matter. Qrow shouldn't put either of them on a scale. That wasn't what relationships were about. Relationships were about acknowledging one another's flaws and deciding to love them all the same.
Funny that it took this long for him to understand that. It'd likely take more reminders for it to fully sink in.
His hand settled over hers, a gentle touch and one she could move away from if she needed space, but one that let her know her words hadn't fallen onto deaf ears. "Anyone ever tell you that you're pretty damn wise?"

He saw the weight on her shoulders, the weariness in her eyes. She had been lucky to be out on the field with Qrow when everything came crashing down around her. Ironic...lucky. One moment of luck in a string of misfortune.
"At least you're honest with yourself." He handed over his old flask to her. The alcohol had been emptied, replaced with water. "And what're you gonna do to make that happen?" He'd offered her the rehab papers earlier in the week and hadn't yet heard her decision. Maybe this was the last push she needed to go with him to the meetings.

Qrow, perhaps, was being too generous with everyone else's situation. It was just that...he felt he had lost so much already. Yet instead of dying, whatever force dictated the future of Remnant had decided Qrow was going to keep on living.
"At least some parents still have their kids." He watched as two such parents held hands with their child while walking down the main street. Qrow wasn't sure he'd ever have a chance to talk with Ruby again...he felt selfish, likely the worst parent of his generation.
"Some people get ups and downs. I feel like my life's just been valleys with little hills of happiness."

"The hell, Tai?!"
...Truthfully, he was thankful for the shove that Tai had given him. Not many in the tribe would have gone out of their way to save 'harbinger Qrow' from an Ursa swipe. They probably would've hoped that the chieftain's troublesome kid would've met a messy end. Still, Qrow had his pride to think of.
"I was just fine! You didn't need to save me!"
" life update : the voices are getting louder. " (from oz. felt right since my ozpin's past lives are kind of like the past avatars in atla as opposed to merging lol)

"You know what I do when my voices get strong?" Qrow gave his flask a swish, swirling the whiskey around inside its stainless steel container. "Talk with my old buddy Black Daniels."
And his voices had been loud for months. Guilt, anger, regret, shame. It all boiled down to a burnt crust that coated Qrow's thoughts nearly every moment he was sober. "Might wanna consider medication. Found mine, after all."
❛ say that again. i dare you. ❜ (from raven!)

Qrow smirked, finding his sister's irritation funny. "All I'm saying is that if you're gonna stare so intently at Tai, you should be honest with the why." He'd seen Raven's internal struggle in the months following the assembling of Team STRQ. Their orders were to learn about potential threats to the Branwen tribe so either Qrow or Raven could kill them later.
"Either you want to kill him, or you just want him." And they couldn't afford the second kind of distraction from their targets. "Just saying that the old man wouldn't approve."

Qrow smiled as the two looked over the Forever Fall, a forest whose leaves were perpetually in autumnal red, making a sea of the vibrant color visible from Beacon's courtyards. No place else across all of Remnant was quite like it.
"I gotta agree with you there. Doesn't really lose its charm, no matter how long you're at Beacon." Truth was, he sometimes came out to this specific courtyard to just zone out while he watched the trees. But that'd stay Qrow's secret.

Aurelia laughed, the sound ringing sharp and light as she dropped her defensive stance for a moment. With the back of her arm, she pushed damp blonde locks away from her forehead, strands sticking stubbornly to her skin from sweat. The movement was casual, almost effortless, but there was a spark of mischief in her gaze.
“Maybe I do,” she said, letting the words hang in the air like a playful challenge. She shifted back into position, settling into a stance that was both ready and relaxed, her pink lips curling into a teasing, confident smirk. Her eyes gleamed, daring him.
“Come on—don’t tell me the great Qrow Branwen can’t land a hit on little ol’ me,” she teased, her tone equal parts amusement and provocation, as if she were already imagining the counter he might throw—and planning how she’d dodge it.
Qrow let a playful groan loose. Aurelia and Tai would never let Qrow slack on training...even now, nearly in his 40s, they still pushed him for hand-to-hand training. He framed his face with a pair of cloth-padded fist as he inched in.
"Can I?" He shrugged. "Sure. But not all of us are masochists, sunbeam." He smirked. "I don't get pleasure from hitting you."

Aurelia snorted quietly at Qrow’s joke, one hand flying up to cover her mouth as if that could possibly smother the laughter bubbling out of her. Her shoulders shook anyway. “If only they’d waited for Vermillion,” she said, shaking her head. “He and Cerulean are practically the patron saints of theatrical overconfidence.” Across the room, by the punch bowl, Saffron stood pillar straight, palms glued to his sides like he didn’t quite know what to do with his limbs. Someone tried to strike up a conversation; he nodded once, stiff as a decorative statue, and immediately looked like he regretted existing. Aurelia winced sympathetically. “Meanwhile Saffron looks like someone forgot to install his social settings.”
Then, with a sly grin, she pointed toward the center of the room. “And in contrast…Vermillion is currently sword-fighting with the waiter’s serving tray just to impress three girls who already think he’s an idiot.”
"That so?" He watched the aforementioned brother indeed try to showboat for a trio of women by balancing a spinning tray with drinks still on it. That was going to turn out bad. "Yikes. Yeah, your parents weren't too patient, huh?"
He then looked to Saffron. Inflexible as an iron rod with a personality to match. "Did us coming have to be some grand event?" Qrow was trying his best not to laugh at the stuffiness of this whole affair. Nothing like it was on Patch, where a homecoming would warrant a home-cooked meal, small party, and tales of adventures taken while away.
✧ continued from x with @ein-schnee-sturm ✧
"Nah. That's no fun when you're down." As much fun as Qrow had riling Winter up, even he had limits. He wasn't cruel. "Besides, it was just an expression." He stood up from his place on the doorway and approached the desk. "Came to see if there was something I could do to help."
This was outside of his fondness for Willow. He saw how she was punishing herself for his failures, and it resonated with a younger Qrow. "Or if you'd be willing to take a day off, let Theodore and the others handle your patrol for today?"

It usually took much more for Qrow Branwen to blush. But this was such an intimate gesture that he was caught completely by surprise.
"You okay, Bright-Eyes? What's got you in a lovey mood?"
"If it walks like a disaster and talks like a disaster, stop calling it potential." (and one from rae)

"Thanks, Rae." As though he needed that reminder of how inept he was at this whole school thing. Did their old man really never think that they'd need life skills beyond setting camp or robbing people on the Mistrali highway? "Maybe I should just call it quits."
He kicked back in his desk chair, scuffing the homework with the heel of his shoe. "I'm not meant for this smart shit."
✧ In Flight of a Qrow and its associated/modified verses, all they manage to find of Qrow after he leaves for his mission is a handful of feathers and his right corvid leg.
If he's alive? He's unable to fly or fight anymore, having lost both right leg and arm. He ends up needing intense physical therapy, prosthetics, and a cane to walk.
