As I've said before, kinematics in design are growing, but most ideas have been taken to fashion or fabric. I believe origami inspired pieces use the same concepts of kinematics - many parts attached to each other that move to make a fully developed product. Here are some inspirational examples I found about this.

FastCompany: Watch these wooden "Ghostcubes" magically transform into different shapes.

Its interesting how they are called ghost cubes when really the ghost is the joint between the faces/cubes. In this project, we are also able to see the kinematic or origami trend that has been going on. This is very impressive.

Source: Dezeen.com Now, nodes and joints are interesting. I think that when exploring joints, you are able to innovate furniture, take the next step. The way these parts slot together is what makes the table great!

Fellowship 2.0

So the fellowship continues this month. As my pots go into a ceramic process, I'm tasked to come up with a new product proposal for this month that continues to take advantage of the resources that Crosstree provides.

So let's take a look at interesting things that are happening in the design world to get inspiration.

More iterations on the handles and how they would look on different size pots. My idea is to keep the size of the handles the same, and only change the type of handle for the pans.

These are my latest prototypes. Wire and sheet metal welds to create forms and interactions of the handles of the pots.

C-Fellowship: NOW I TIG WELD!

Not a professional though, dont get too excited! Part of the fellowship for me was to learn new materials and processes and get comfortable with them. Although I can't consider myself a metal/welding expert, I am good enough to use it for my prototyping. The final part of the fellowship will be a built fellowship coming up the last week of february where I'll actually get the chance to make the clay pot and the metal accessories myself.
