Bloom Into the Light
just a lovely little thing for @mpinsoo
Throughout all the time together, from their first reunion to every bad situation to the recovery and healing... something had grown and bloomed between Juyeon and In-soo. They hadn't really said anything about it or put any real name to it. It's just something that existed there between them. Things shifted and changed more after events and other conversations and things Juyeon hadn't been personally involved in. But all of it just accumulated. He'd noticed that In-Soo had something on his mind and while Juyeon hadn't wanted to press and preferred to let the other male bring it up when he was ready to. As, Juyeon was sure that In-Soo would share it in time. And... eventually his patience was rewarded. They'd been hanging out like usual but after a few minutes the TV was muted and In-Soo seemed like he was thinking hard about something or as if he was collecting his words or thoughts. But whatever it was, Juyeon had shifted and given the other male his full attention. His expression was curious but patiently waiting to see if the other would speak up before he opted to speak first. "Is there something on your mind, Soongie?" He asked softly, offering a light nudge in case it's what the other needed to speak up.
It had been hard to see Erlang go just a few weeks after their reunion. But, at least, In-Soo had received all the answers he needed about his family and he felt lighter, happier, the guilt still there but not crushing his heart and soul anymore. For the first time, he truly felt free to live his life as he truly wanted.
But recently, things had started to shift between Juyeon and him. It had probably started when they had moved in together and then making their fwb’s pact. It was subtle differences and it took him a long time to notice them. More stolen kisses and touches, more intense embraces.
And then the talks with Jiayi and Yingyue during the Luna New Year’s festivities had finally helped him to open his eyes on what was truly happening.
That day, In-Soo had been in a strange mood. Not really paying attention to what was going on around him, his mind fixed on deciphering his own heart. Maybe it was time to have a little chat with his roommate.
The first episode of their new drama wasn’t even over yet when In-Soo muted the TV, turning to look at the son of Loki, sat near him with both Bomi and Haruki comfortable settled in his lap. He kept playing with his mother’s ring, now hanging on his own neck after receiving it from his father. "In fact…" he started, turning to face Juyeon better, "… You are on my mind. All the time. It’s a bit scary to be honest."
In-Soo moved closer, enough to be able to take Juyeon’s hand into his, playing with his fingers as he tried to make order in his thoughts. "I was wondering if you’d like for us to date ? For real."
Davina turned in her chair to look on to Insoo. Her gaze moved from the drink to his reaction of him trying it. The other's reaction was exactly what she had been looking for. If he was pleased at the taste, she did not even see a need of getting her friends to try the other impending flavors. The staff had approved, but she had merely thought they were being sweet to her. Now, she would just trust them!
"Oh? Really!" She exclaimed, checking again to his features. "I'm glad that you like it. I will release it soon then! It'll be a spring highlight!" She nods her head, and Davina gratefully takes the food he pushed toward her. She hadn't realized how hungry she was until the food was before her. "Thanks!"
Poking at the rice, she listened to Insoo explain. She agreed immediately(and obviously) about how lovely her mother was. Davina did have quite a big of pride with her family. "Wow! That's awesome! It's not often that you hear of a demigod's parents actually being married." She speaks before finally taking a bite of the food. "That sounds so sweet."
In-Soo took a few more sips of his drink. It was so delicious that he could have drank it in one big gulp but he had to remind himself to keep some for after lunch. It would be a nice, sweet end to a good meal. He smiled at Davina, he would gladly try any of her creations. "Spring highlight ? That sounds great. Do you plan more ?"
Since his mother's death, In-Soo had needed someone who would offer him some maternal guidance in his life, someone he could turn to if he needed advice and comfort. Of course, he had many female friends but Xiwangmu was more and different than that he had embraced her presence in Mount Phoenix with peaceful joy. But above everything, he was happy for the mother and daughter to be reunited.
The vet nodded, slowly eating on his food. He didn't remember hearing about anyone having the same familial situation than him, most of his friends being orphan or abandoned by their godly parents. "Doesn't it ? There's something reassuring in the fact of knowing I was wanted."
Could have, should have, would have. But really... In-Soo was a wonderful veterinarian now. He wouldn't be doing his dream job if he hadn't left back then and Juyeon would have hated for him to miss out on it. They had their dancing, but it was a hobby and though Juyeon turned his passion for it into a career-- In-Soo's path to being a veterinarian made the most sense too.
Juyeon nodded in agreement, smile growing fonder at the other's clear happiness his friends got along. With In-Soo's hold on him, Juyeon did have to do a bit of a wiggle-shuffle to show even just a bit of the tattoo but it wasn't too difficult.
He hummed softly at the little whisper, laughing lightly at the other's cheeky little comment and wink before playfully pushing him away. "Alright, come on. Let's get to shopping and finishing up what we need to today. Okay?" He mock hip-checked In-soo as he spoke, stretching and relaxing with a content smile.
During the last year, In-Soo had learnt that having regrets wasn't the most healthy things. He would always blame himself for not saving his family and he still wasn't over Hua leaving without a word but, at least, he had made peace with the summer's events, with Maxim even. It was still hard to deal with many things but in that new, fresh place, he could try to heal. There would always be questions about Juyeon and him but having the other by his side was the most important in that moment.
And he was proud of his job. Being able to help defenceless creatures was his accomplishment and one of the things that truly made him happy.
In-Soo laughed even more when Juyeon pushed him away and he stood nearby, watching as the other arranged his clothes. "Okay ! I get the car ready and wait for you outside." He chuckled and gave his friend another wink before disappearing in the hallway, calling for Bomi and Haruki.

The demigoddess shook her head. She had never been to such a beautiful place before. It was definitely one befitting 'queen mother'. If she lived in a place like this, she would never want to leave. "I have never been here before. Never new a palace of this level. It's super gorgeous." She compliments freely. What a life of a goddess! "Yes. I had one of those. They were super yummy. I bet the chefs had centuries of experience making these treats."
Even though the other was rather nonchalant about Insoo and his relationship, Yue noticed the crimson tinge to his cheeks. There was definitely more behind the scenes that he is not being open about. But, they were strangers. Yue did not blame him from being private. However, that would not stop the love demigoddess from being nosey. It was one of her many specialties.
"Why are you blushing about a roommate then?" She asked, raising a brow. Her question might be pushing the boundaries, but she spoke playfully with a smile. There was no bad intentions between her questions. "Unless you have some feelings for him. A friend you might have secret feelings toward?" She had seen that in a drama she watched lately. Even if it was just tied to strings, love was one of her domains. And, this seemed like the brewing of it.
In-Soo nodded. "Isn't it ? It's not only beautiful but peaceful too. And everyone is so welcoming and kind." He had his father now but Xiwangmu being there had also been a blessing and the deep suffering in his heart was healing, thanks to the family (blood or not) he had found on the island. He chuckled at her remark. "What if I tell you they're the work of the young Black Forest's baker ? He did a great job !"
Whatever exactly was between Juyeon and himself was still a bit confusing and In-Soo was asking himself a lot of questions. He knew that he could end at any moment so he wasn't keeping his hopes up and he didn't want to break the spell by confiding in someone he had just met.
The vet didn't know it was possible to become even more red but he did it anyway. His skin felt hot, uncomfortable even. 'It's a bit... complicated, you see' he answered, rubbing the back of his neck. "There was someone else I thought would be my soulmate and now I'm not sure what I exactly feel." He shrugged but he wasn't sure he would know what to do if Juyeon abandoned him too.
Huachang was surprised when the other got up to help him still not used to such aid, his cheeks reddened and his smile growing as his outer robe was helped from his shoulders and placed to the side. Being here he was happy it wasn't as crowded where they were making it better for his nerves, the sense of others bustling a bit of a trigger at the moment. But none the less he was happy that In-Soo has wanted to see him.
As he sat the flutter of his clothes fanned out, his eyes looking around before catching what the other wore and finding it rather nice, fitting and well tailored. Even if he didn't seem it Hua loved fabric and fashion very much even going so far as to making his own clothes. It made his hands fumble a little in excitement to tell him, his hands opening the cute notebook and taking out his periwinkle pen.
"It's so good to see you! You look so nice dressed up, it suits you! How have you been? I am sorry I haven't been around much, I have been trying to heal and my leg just... How have you been?"
Once the coat was put aside, In-Soo waited for Huachang to settle down before sitting back. He took a few moments to stare at the other. He was looking like a delicate flower, even more than usual, but his smile was illuminating his features and the vet loved to see that happiness on the other.
In-Soo watched as his companion wrote in his notebook, grabbing his phone, ready to prepare an answer to whatever question would come his way. He smiled as he read the message, a light blush appearing on his cheeks at the compliments.
"Thank you, you look great too !" he wrote in his notes app. "I've got a difficult summer but I'm ok now." The vet hesitated an instant, not wanting to pry too much. "What happened to your leg ?"

Another little smile played across the demigoddess' lips as the other spoke. She nodded at his explanation, stretching a little and letting a soft breath go while she relaxed again. "I see! Well, you're still doing a good job. Even if you were a bit rusty." Her gaze shifted to Juyeon again before she glanced back to In-Soo. "You're both so good, it looks professional!" She added, speaking her earlier thought out loud.
"I'm glad you were having fun too though, you and your friend both. It's really cute! You move well together too. Have you known each other for a long time? You're really familiar with each other." She had a genuine curiosity about people most of the time, she would refrain from asking questions like this with complete strangers.
But, In-Soo was a friend! Thus, she'd like to know more about him.
"Thank you ! I'm glad that you appreciated our efforts !" In-Soo answered, smiling at the young woman. At her remark, his gaze turned to Juyeon again. He was so beautiful, dancing, lights playing on his face, his whole body moving like a flame in the dark. "We were part of a dance crew, we won some competitions. I had to drop but Juyeon continued and dancing is his passion. He could easily turn professional." It was what he wished for his friend and he deserved it.
"That's very nice of you, Jiayi." The vet turned to look at her, his body shifting to face her more comfortably. "Yes, since we were teenagers, we met through dance classes. We were best friends at the time already." There was a nostalgic smile on his lips, his mind turned to the memories of their time together. "We reunited here, last spring."
In-Soo peeked at Juyeon again and there was more than friendship in his eyes as he admired the other. He wasn't too sure of what he was feeling in that instant but he knew that he now wouldn't be able to live without his roomate by his side. "I really like him" he whispered.
Together, they were supported in every way they could be. The best of friendships with a hint of something just a little bit deeper. It's a question on who would admit to it first. But they were still supported no matter where things took them as time passed.
"Yeah, I mean we haven't gotten to know each other outside the basics. But yeah, it was pretty good too." He smiled as he spoke before he grinned when the other wrapped his arm around him too and winked. He'd laughed at the sight before humming a little, shifting slightly so he could push his shirt out of the way. He then moved his waistband a little too, winking back as he gave the other a little peek at the tattoo on his hip.
"There's some of it, yeah? Maybe later I can show the rest." He added, grinning just a little more as he spoke.
They were the perfect pairing, to be quite honest. It wasn't rare for In-Soo to thing about what could have been if he hadn't left Juyeon behind so many years ago. Finding him again in Mount Phoenix had been a blessing, a chance to reconnect with his life's happier times.
Juyeon made the bad things bearable.
We should invite him more often to hang out then In-Soo proposed, smiling back at the other. He was happy that most of his friends seemed to get along well with each other. The vet didn't let go of Juyeon as the son of Loki undressed, just enough for him to be able to see the tattoo.
"It's beautiful" the Chinese demigod whispered, softly tracing the dark lines on his now roommate's skin. "I can't wait to see it whole" he added with a wink.
Davina grinned at the thought that everyone was doing well. Mount Phoenix had been such a positive change for her. Out of isolation and with a list of friends that grew each day, she could have never imagine this future for her. So, she added a little extra love into making their drinks. In fact, the demigoddess crafted a delicate and sweet brown sugar milk tea for the male. She had wanted to introduce boba teas from her traditional line up of teas, and he would be the best tester. Plus, her Black tea was good for the heart and focus. Perfect for their session!
"That is excellent. It is always great news to hear." She nodded her head happily. As long as Insoo was happy, she did not quite care what their true relationship was, though she was always down to hear the tea. Moving around the counter, the demigoddess set two drinks down, one for him and the other for her. She took a second to seat herself before looking over at him.
A smile pulled on her lips. "It's great that you finally got to meet with him again." She states, reaching over the place her hand on his shoulder. "It is quite an emotional thing, connection or reconnecting with a parent. It was for me too when I met mom for the first time. You never realize how much you need them in your lives until they are there right in front of your face!"
This was something that In-Soo could easily relate to. He had had a loving family, a mother and grandparents, but he had found a new one in Mount Phoenix. Adorable people that he loved and wanted to protect. He had built a new life, one that he could enjoy peacefully. And now his father was there too so he truly couldn't complain.
"Isn't it ?" There was a light paink dust on In-Soo's cheeks as Davina joined him again, placing a delicious looking brown sugar milk tea in front of him. It smelled divine and he took a careful sip. Heaven ! "Oh, it's scrumptious !" he exclaimed, grinning at his cousin. Once she was settled, he pushed the food towards her, inviting her to start eating.
"Thank you. We're both really happy." He took a bite of kimchi fried rice and nodded. "Exactly ! I'm glad that you got to know that and that it went well for you too, you mother is lovely." He smiled, silence falling onto them as they enjoyed their lunch for a few moments. "You know what is the most amazing thing that I learnt ? My parents were married !"
TW: MENTION OF BLOOD AND USE OF NEEDLES
Ben grabbed the band and started to tie it around the others bicep. "This will be a bit tight, just so you know, okay?" He tried to give a reassuring smile before tying the torniquet off. "Can you make a tight fist for me, please?" He started feeling around for a vein before nodding, confirming he found what he was looking for once the other made his fist.
"I'm gonna sanitize the area, okay?" He took a alcohol swab and started to clean the area before he threw it away. Ben grabbed a cotton ball and some paper tape to get ready as the skin was drying off still. "Up to you, if you are wanting to watch, okay?" He got the area ready and pushed the needle in. He connected the tube to the needle set up and began drawing the first vial. Once it was full, he pulled it out and put the other one in. "You're doing really well." Ben reassured the other as he finished everything off. He pulled off the torniquet and then the needle came out before putting the cotton swab and the tape over it.
"Well done. You'll have your results hopefully in the next few days." Ben started to clean everything up and label things as they should have been. "I'm gonna go get these to where they should be, and if you want to let yourself out when you're ready?"
In-Soo was used to needles and blood tests by now, they didn't scare him anymore (it's not like they ever did to be quite honest). His last stay at the hospital had been a long successions of examens, perfusions and other tests. But he still appreciated Benjamin's explanations he took care of him.
The vet gave just a little wince at the alcohol swab, it was so cold against his warm skin. The scent didn't bother him, spending most of his time bathing in it at the clinic. "I'm going to watch" he answered with a smile. "I've always been fascinated by the process, on humans or animals. Though I wonder which ones are the most brave." He thanked Benjamin, flexing his arm a little.
Once everything was done and said, In-Soo jumped down the examination table, reaching for his coat and scarf. "Ok ! It was nice seeing you again, Benjamin. And I hope we won't wait so long anymore before we meet again." He gently bowed his head as the other disappeared with the blood tubes and he soon was on the way back home.

5-STAR dome tour VCR: lee know
Eloise looked over at the demigod back to the clothes he was presenting to her. She did not quite mind the shirt, though it was not her normal fashion whatsoever. However, she suspected that was what came with work. The thought only lingered for a moment before he mentioned "heavier work", and she had to stop her nose from scrunching at the perceived future effort. Maybe, the feline could push that on someone else. However, she simply nodded her head and did as he wanted of her, definitely preferring the white one.
Following Insoo, she paid close attention to the different animals that he was showing her. She had never considered how much extra effort she would have to do, other than helping kittens. Looking over at him. "Feline part?" She asked, though she caught was he was saying or meaning. "I'm good with cats, though birds typically do not like me. Dogs... Hopefully, they will be fine." It was a fifty-fifty shot. But, she was here to take care of all animals.
Patiently, the demigoddess listened to all the different responsibilities of being a volunteer. For a moment, the demigoddess was rather overwhelmed. Had she really signed herself up for all that effort? And for what? However, she pulled herself out of her thoughts. "Sure. Just assist, right? I won't have to groom them though right... I don't want to be blamed for a bad haircut."
Well, Eloise would soon discover that the volunteer team wasn't that big and that everyone had to do their share of work, easy or not. Slackers and manipulators weren't well received and even if she was charming, she would have 'problems' with her colleagues if she tried to escape her responsibilities. Taking care of animals wasn't always as easy and fun as a lot of people thought. But In-Soo was trustful that she would easily find her place and be a wonderful addition to the staff.
The island's wildlife was diverse and beautiful. Most of the animals were able to fend for themselves but, sometimes, they ventured into the city, brought by hunger or a wound or even looking for some company. They usually were brought to the shelter by good souls and, most of the time, lovely parents were found for them.
"Dogs and cats are usually easy to deal with" In-Soo explained, smiling. "But if you have any problem, you can ask Sundrop. You'll soon discover that he has very useful powers for us."
The vet chuckled at her remark, guiding her to the break room. "Don't worry, you won't ! You will mostly assist Chang'e and I or prepare the meals and clean the boxes." He offered Eloise a reassuring smile. "I'm sure you'll do great and remember that you can ask for help at any moment."
Yingyue was rather intrigued by many of the pairs at the feast. It was a crime that the moon's light had been too pale for her. With so much red already decorating the palace, there had been no chance on getting a read on the pantheon's soulmate situation. Yue reasoned that she would just have to wait for another day, one much better. At least now, she knew who was pantheon members.
Yue found Insoo's acceptance of her reasoning rather humorous. Though, it was true. Yue could usually put back more than enough food for two people, and the feast's dishes were quite worth that. "Yes. The food is phenomenal. How often do you get to eat at queen mother's home?"
When he reacted the demigoddess's tease, she could only huff a breathy laugh. "Those poor things have been red all night, and the food has not even been spicy." She explains easily. "I noticed a guy seated with you. I have a feeling he is the culprit behind all of this."
For a long time, In-Soo had been persuaded that Hua was his soulmate. But the other had never been able to tell him exactly about their situation and now, the question wasn't even worthy anymore. Maybe there was no one for him and he didn't really mind after all. He was content with the way things were at the moment.
At least, the evening was a nice occasion to mingle with his fellow Chinese demigods, something he had less occasions to do now that he had moved out of the apartments. "Isn't it ? I saw some delicious looking mooncakes that I can't wait to try !" He smiled at the question. "Well... Xiwangmu is my aunt so I did come a few times already, with my father too. And you ? Is it your first time at the Golden Palace ?"
If In-Soo's cheeks had been red, his whole face was now tomato ! He could even feel the red hotness at the tip of his ears and he chuckled, a bit awkwardly though. "Oh. It's Juyeon, my best friend and roommate." Best friend with benefits, he should add. But this wasn't something Yingyue needed to know. "We've known each other long before coming to Mount Phoenix."
When he approached her for a hug, the cheerful demigoddess had no problems returning the affection tightly and with a huge grin. Davina looked being able to spend time with friends. The extroverted woman had no trouble talking to others for hours, if they allowed her to. So, with the male granting her some of his time, she appreciated the indulgence of his presence.
"Aww! I hope they are all doing well! Make sure you give them my well wishes when you get back!" The demigoddess spoke with a quick nod. Davina did not quite know what his relationship with Juyeon was, but she associated him as their partner whether that was true or not. Regardless, she knew she adored the both of them, Insoo by relation and Juyeon by extension.
Looking at him, she nodded her head. "I'm going to make you the yummiest tea!" Davina grinned, and she moved behind her counter, moving to make their tea while she talked to him. "Yes! I think you mentioned that! Have you met him yet? Or are you still waiting to find him?"
The hug was nice and warm and In-Soo maybe kept it a little bit longer than necessary, squeezing the young woman against him. He had taken the day off so they would have time to catch up and share happy moments together around a delicious tea and warm food. He wasn't the most extrovert person but he was close to someone, he had no problem talking and sharing with them.
"They are, thank you ! I will, I'm sure they will appreciate." He chuckled, rubbing the back of his neck. He had no idea of the vibes Juyeon and him were giving off but Davina and the dancer had quickly become friends and the vet was thankful for that. His friends getting along was important to him.
In-Soo clapped at the as Davina moved being the counter. Her teas were always so good, refreshing or comforting, she had a gift to exactly know what someone wanted or needed. "Oh we met !" he answered with a grin. "It was the first thing he did after his arrival, looking for me. That was an emotional reunion, you can imagine."
Eloise did not know what to think of the other. They appeared nice, and she guessed that it was all she needed from a boss? Was that what he was? The feline did not linger too long on that. This was her first act of "work" in the real world. So, the feline obliged the other's request follow them to the clinic side of Stop&Paws, letting her curiosity drive the rest. In essence, she expected that this as where she would spend most, if not all, of her time.
She nodded her head as she looked over at the area for her items. It was something to remember, which she did not worry that she would. For today, luckily, all her items fit in her two pockets of her jeans. She had not known what she was coming into, and it had been the safest option, even though she quite wanted a nice purse to pair with her outfit.
"That is fine." The demigoddess reassured him. Eloise truly had no clue what she was doing, but it would not take long for her to catch up. Taking care of animals in some form of compacity was about where all she knew, and so, Insoo would be able to spell out what she was doing. So, she patiently followed behind the other, holding her hands loosely in front of her body. "Please let me know what all I need to know."
In-Soo considered the young woman's outfit for an instant. It was cute and practical, she seemed to know what she was about to get herself into. "So, uh... We have t-shirts for the volunteer. Visitors need to identify you easily." He presented two piles of garments to Eloise, simple black of white t-shirts with a 'volunteer crew' slogan written in a fun font. "We also have aprons and boots for the more heavy work."
Once she was ready, the vet took her to the shelter itself, introducing her to their small tenants. Cats, birds, lizards and other small animals greeted her, curious about the new arrival. "I think they are quite intrigued about you. They must feel your feline part." He reached to pet one of the kittens and the little one licked his fingers. "The dogs' kennels and bigger animals' boxes are in the annex."
As they made the complete tour of the clinic, In-Soo explained the volunteers' duties. Identification, feeding, helping the visitors and future adopters... anything that could support the medical team and make their life easier. "Sundrop will later explain you his groomer job as you might need to help him too. Is that ok with you ?"
Yingyue had been rather quiet, unusually, through the start of the feast. She had been busy observing the beautiful home of the goddess and the many interactions between pairs of couples or friends as they made their way to the various open locations in the Golden Palace. While Yue had no problem speaking with new people and making friends, she also could not help but be completely intrigue with trying to guess which of these were lovers or friends. Too many seemed to blend that line.
But as the feast went on, she soon pulled from her thoughts and indulged her company in her typical Yue-fashion. She enjoyed the food, and the overall atmosphere, though she still kept her eye on some of those couples who looked to suspicious to be merely friends. Everyone seemed to be enjoying the feast, much thanks to the efforts and work put on by the queen mother. Yue had learned enough in her time in the monastery about the gods. It was why she was on her best behavior.
Having excused herself from the table after she started to get full, the demigoddess wanted a chance to get some air and walk off some of the food in hopes to make room for more yumminess. Yue had not been expecting to run into one of those specific guilty parties as she had been on her walk, and when he had called out to her, she did not leave him unanswered.
"Partially. I am more trying to open more stomach space." She grinned as she stepped toward him. Looking at him, she tilted her head, continuing with a tease. "But, are you escaping the crowd? Or trying to give those cute little red cheeks a chance to breathe?"
In-Soo would lie if he said he hadn't felt some jealousy towards the couples present at the feast. Seeing them holding hands or stealing kisses had brought back memories he'd rather forget or avoid. Fingers squeezing his own, red lips on his, gentle but often hungry.
He still missed Hua. It was the dull pain in his heart anymore, only a fleeting feeling of loss. The betrayal and the crushed hope had made place to nostalgia of the shared moments. And now, even if the other demigod would appear before him, In-Soo wasn't even sure if he still could give him again what he had already offered.
If he was truly honest with himself, the vet was quite happy about his little arrangement with Juyeon too and wasn't looking to change anything for the moment. He was getting the affection he so craved, in the safety of his friend's arms. What more could he ask for ?
In-Soo's attention quickly went back to the young woman as she approached and he moved on the bench, offering her to join him. "Ah ! That's quite a good idea ! I should do that too, there's still some desserts I'd like to try" he answered, chuckling. However, his hands automatically went to his cheeks at her remark. They were indeed warm under his touch.
"Oh. Why would I do that ?" he asked, feeling his skin getting even hotter.
