Sleepwalking
Sam was startled awake by the feeling of some foreign object brushing up against his spine. At first, he was confused as to why he wasnât in his apartment, then he actually opened his eyes all the way, squinting at light coming from the opened bathroom door that he swore to god he told Misa to shut off last night. Right. Hotel room. Vancouver. Road game.
Suddenly, Sam feels that same light pressure on his spine that had startled him awake just moments ago. He sighs and sits up just slightly, so look over his shoulder to see Misa lying in the bed next to him, face down, arm touching Samâs back every time he breathes in. Sam sits up a little more just to see past Misa to the bed just five feet away from his own, and, to no surprise, nobodyâs sleeping in it. Usually, Sam would probably shake Misa awake and kick him back to his own bed, but this overwhelming urge to pee suddenly consumes him.
He groans and pushes the covers off of himself, trudging his way into the bright yellow light of the small hotel bathroom. By the time he has himself pulled out of his shorts and positioned in a wide stance in front of the toilet, he hears a small voice coming from outside the bathroom. Itâs barely audible, even though Sam left the door open, but itâs gone just as fast as it came, so he continues with his business and runs his hands under cold water for about three seconds before shaking them off and rounding the corner back into the room, flicking the light off on his way out.
It takes a solid five seconds for his eyes to adjust to the now almost pitch black space, but when they finally do, he sees that Misa is now fully sitting up in the bed instead of laying on his stomach. The sight startles Sam because, from the looks of it, Misaâs eyes are only half open and his back is completely straight, not hunched over with bad posture like it usually is, but completely flat.
Samâs first thought is that Misa is actively being possessed, but then he remembers a story he was once told about Misa sleep walking as a child, and it wouldnât surprise him if he was sleep walking again, because he does in fact have video proof that Misa also still sleep talks.
After about a minute or so, Sam finally decides that doing something about this would be better than just pushing Misa out of the bed and going back to sleep. Heâs seen a lot of videos on TikTok about how to deal with sleep walkers. All of them recommend never waking the sleep walker up, so he approaches Misa slowly and reaches a hand out to gently touch his shoulder.
âHey, Mis, lay down for me, alright?â His voice is soft, almost a whisper. He doesnât want to make Misa stand up just to make him go to his own bed a few feet away, so he settles for trying to put him back to sleep in his own bed.
âThe game is tomorrow.â Is what Sam gets in response before Misa starts laying back down with gentle pressure from Samâs palm.
Sam chuckles softly and shakes his head as Misaâs sleepy response. âYeah, we do have a game tomorrow, but you gotta sleep right now.â Misa finally has his back on the mattress again by the end of Samâs sentence.
âDick.â Misa stirs, his eyebrow knitting together as Samâs nickname leaves his mouth.
Sam finally takes his hand off of Misaâs shoulder and crawls back into the bed next to him. âYeah, bud, Iâm right here.â
Misa sits up again, but not completely this time, propped up by an elbow. âCome here.â
Sam sighs, half out of frustration and half out of tiredness. He places his hand on Misa's chest and tries gently pushing down again. âI'm right here, Mis. Go back to sleep.â He knows that Misa is technically already asleep, but he can't think of anything else to say.
From that point on, Misa doesn't speak for the rest of the night. Sam never moves his hand from Misa's chest because by the time Misa is finally laying down flat again, he's too exhausted to move.
The next time Sam wakes up, it's to the sound of Misaâs phone alarm going off from his side of the nightstand. When Sam tries to get up to turn the alarm off, there's a heavy weight on his chest that forces him back down. Confused at first, he looks down and sees a messy bunch of brown hair resting on his chest that whines when Sam tries to move again.
He clears his throat, voice gruff from sleep, âMisâŚâ As if the sound of the blaring alarm wasn't enough, Misa shoots up at the sound of Sam's voice, hand on Sam's chest, a red mark with nails indented into the side of his face that just highlights the amount of time Misa and Sam were probably sleeping in this position.
When reality finally crashes upon Misa, he pushes himself away from Sam and glares over his shoulder at his phone like it had personally offended him. He stumbles out of Sam's bed and throws himself onto his own bed, immediately reaching for his phone and turning the alarm off. âWhy the fuck was I in your bed?â
âI don't know, you were probably doing your little sleep walking thing last night. You woke me up and scared the shit out of me when you crawled into my bed.â Sam says it in a tone that's almost offended, like this is directly Misa's fault, and he should feel bad for it.
Misa holds both of his hands in the air in front of him like he's pinning the blame on Sam instead. âAnd you didn't try to move me back to my own bed?â
Sam hesitates, â... Yeah, you wouldn't budge.â It's a lie. A big, fat lie. Sam did not make one single attempt to bring Misa back to his own bed last night, but Misa didn't need to know that.
Misa closes his eyes and shakes his head like he's annoyed at the situation. âWhatever.â Instead of pressing further, he throws his phone onto the bed behind him and pushes himself up, making his way to the bathroom.
