I looked into it and apparently “merca” is slag for coke in that area, which is the source of the original mistranslation- google translate assumes it means mercado, and translates it as “pass by the market” which I guess the source I got the translation from (complicit clergy) assumed was a euphemism for being bought off

This is the information James Watson is pointing out. When the interviewer asked if his views had changed, he should have just told the interviewer to look up the data himself.

It appears from the article that what he got in trouble for this time was saying that genes are responsible for IQ differences between black and white people. Well, they are.
