“In the backyard of our Frenchs Forest home, Sydney, in 1964: Michael was four, Rhett eighteen months and I was sixteen. Caring for my little brothers while our parents worked was both blissful and challenging.” ― The Tina Hutchence Collection
December 19th, 1989. Michael Hutchence and Kylie Minogue attend The Delinquents premiere in Sydney, Australia.
“I attended with Michael Hutchence and it was a moment. The short blonde hair was a last-minute decision. I don’t recall us planning to match so well, but we did. My noughts and crosses mini-dress was by the Aussie designer, Morrissey Edmiston.” ― Kylie Minogue
“Hutchence was there, looking every inch the dissolute rock star, complete with garishly patterned trousers, a waistcoat for a shirt and a pair of ill-fitting army boots. Next to him was a girl no one recognized, his latest conquest no doubt. She was petite, fit-looking with a tight ‘suicide blonde’ wig and a micro-dress with a pattern of noughts and crosses. The photographers took her picture in the weary way they reserved for name- less rock chicks, until the whisper went round. It was Kylie! Gone were the bubble haircut, the comfy denim teenage outfits and the self-effacing cheery smile. This was a sex-bomb at a premiere, years before Liz Hurley and her ilk used such occasions to get noticed. It was a bold, rebellious statement, not just challenging the public perception of Kylie and that of her fans, but also making the powers that be at PWL sit up and splutter into their morning tea. It was a watershed moment in Kylie’s career, and Hutchence gave her the courage to go through with it.” ― An excerpt from the book, Kylie Confidential by Sean Smith, page 94-95
“Shortly after that, of course, Kylie and Michael would very publicly announce their relationship, in the form of their dramatic arrival at the Australian premiere for The Delinquents. With Kylie wearing a short blonde wig and a noughts and crosses glittering mini-dress, the awaiting paparazzi were momentarily unaware of who the charismatic couple arriving on the Harley Davidson motorcycle actually were, but it didn’t take them long to figure it out. Something else they remained unaware of was the reason for Kylie’s surprisingly early departure from the function - not to be cool or aloof, but in reality because of the fact that the wig she was wearing was a size too small and was giving her a migraine. All the same, the event hit all the headlines, and was splashed across TV and radio throughout Australia.” ― An excerpt from biography Kylie Naked by Jenny Stanley-Clarke, page 66
