Dustfinger/Paul Bettany Appreciation | Inkheart (2008)
Black Mirror - Striking Vipers
Black Mirror - Charlie Brooker - 2019
*Season 5 - 5 Episodes - 1 hr*
šššš
1. Striking Viper - 1hr 11min
The episode opens with two people standing at the bar. A young man and woman, talking - meeting for the first time. He asks the woman if he can buy her a drink and right after he orders, two other people walk up behind them. The male intrudes the female to the group as ādaisyā and we learn that the first two were role playing and actually together. The second male & the first two people are actually all roommates.
The scene changes and you see the first two people being intimate, and then theyāre sleeping. The guy wakes up for food and then he hears the tv turn on and he walks out to see his friend playing video games and joins him for a few rounds. A few years go by and itās the first guys birthday - he has a kid at this point and he and Theo are married. Karl shows up to his birthday party and gives him a video game they used to play together but in a new upgraded virtual world! When the day is over Karl and the first guy get on the virtual game together and start playing. The game allows them to feel totally emerged in this video game and world. Both men play the characters they used to play, Karl picking his female character and the first guy picking lance his male character.
When they finish playing the female character (Karl) has won and ends up ontop of the male character. They end up kissing and the first guy freaks out. (At this point you have to remember that the game allows you to feel any and all sensations) he logs out of the game gets into bed and his wife notices he has a hard on. They get intimate and the next night she goes out for a girls night.
After Danny puts his kid to bed and they both log back on the game - they lean back and they agree they were drunk and now they are going to play a serious game. Still choosing the same characters they go in to begin their fight & instead start getting....intimate (Iām not sure if any of this shows on the tv screen or if itās just virtual but, he might wanna chill) after they finish they try to talk about it, awkwardly, but Dannyās son kicks him and he exits the game. His wife comes home from girls night out and he pretends to be asleep.
The next morning his wife is telling him about how she drank a lot while she was out because she ended up getting her period (their actively trying to get pregnant). The scene changes to the video game and they end up doing the same thing as before.
Karl and Danny end up using this game as a way to be intimate with one another and in turn start neglecting their real lives. They get so involved with doing it in the game that they no longer do it in their real lives. Dannyās wife is starting to question everything about herself. But, at the same time all of this begs the question, are these men gay? They start to talk about what it means and Karl explains that he always chooses the woman because of how much better it feels and of course, they get intimate again. His wife is starting to notice a change in him. Karl comes to expect playing this game with Danny, they have text messages where they plan what scene theyāll...play & Karl gets upset one night when Danny has to cancel for a date with his wife. While one the date his wife calls him out for his weird behavior and starts talking to him about how their not getting pregnant - she is upset that they arenāt having any sex & he says itās just because heās tired. She knows that more is happening (people always know), she calls him out for cheating because she notices that he doesnāt want her anymore. He doesnāt try to get intimate with her anymore & he assures her nothing is happening. The scene changes & Karl is in bed with the young girl heās in a relationship with - he says heās not feeling the mood & they stop. Karl logs on, Danny is logged on & then they both log off. Danny hides the VR game, deciding heās not going to use it anymore. Karl wants to know where heās at & Danny tells him he canāt play anymore, he says itās not fair to Theo & Karl begs him to change his mind. Danny hangs up.
Seven months go by and Theo is pregnant - Karlās life on the other hand...not looking to bright. Heās angry and depressed & heās just waiting around for Danny to message him. Itās Dannyās birthday and Theo emails Karl and invites him over to their house for dinner (Theo still doesnāt know about what happened between Karl and Danny) - dinner is awkward, to say the least. Danny is upset with Karl for coming over for dinner, and they get into an argument about it. Danny tells him everything is just to weird & Karl tells him the only weird thing is that no other experience in the real world matches what they had in that game.
Karl tells him that he goes into the game all the time looking for a fix to their affair - even having his character be intimate with a polar bear character. He claims nothing can match what Danny / Lance & him / Roxette have in the game. Thing get heated and Karl leaves after cake. He lets Danny know that Roxette will be waiting in the game at midnight & Danny logs on & they do their thing. Karl tells Danny (in the game as their characters) that he loves what their doing & he loves him. Danny feels weird about it (obviously because he feels the same way but he has family obligations) - Danny is having internal conflict and he tells Karl to log out of the game and meet him in real life at a car park.
Danny says they have to kiss because they need to know if they really feel that way in real life because heās tired of not knowing. Karl is trying to make it light but itās clearly hard for them & after they kiss for real they both say they donāt feel anything. Agreeing they can just be friends. Karl says itās different in the game and him and Danny start fighting - they get arrested and Theo has to pick him up. Theo wants to know why they were fighting and as soon as Danny starts talking it cuts to a scene of his birthday. They make a deal with one another that one night a month (the 14) Danny and Karl get to have their thing together and Theo gets to experience other men in real life.
8/10: Recommend - it is a weird watch though, as most Black mirror episodes are, but, this is really a weird one.

If I could give this movie HALF a pineapple, I wouldnāt even give it that. This movie was horrible.
The movie starts with Star and a young boy rummaging through the dumpsters with a little girl. Theyāre looking for food and when they find what they want they head to Walmart for drinks. While at walmart they run into a group of runaways who are flashmobbing in the middle of the store and she sets her eyes in one of them - Jake. When Jake gets kicked out of the store with his group of friends, he drops his phone and Star retrieves it and takes it back to him. He offers her a chance to go with him and after denying the offer she heads back home. A super nasty, country guy comes into the scene and heās yelling at the young boy to get the dog out of the house - after that he goes over to star and starts forcing himself all over her. He plays a loud, country music starter playlist & starts attempting to serenade Star to Luke Bryan (we still at this point have no idea who this guy is but, he makes it sound like heās her dad - he doesnāt look old enough though).
The scene changes to Star in the room with the kids packing bags and saying that sheās going to take them somewhere special, a surprise. She tosses everyoneās stuff out of the window and they all make a break for it (the guy is still in the living room drunk singing to Brantley Gilbert) and the surprise location she takes them to, is to drop them off with their equally junkie mother. She tells them sheās going to the bathroom and then she ABANDONS THEM THERE. Brava.
She meets up with the runaways - dubbed the Mag Crew - because they sell subscriptions to magazines in order to pay their āmadameā for their stay in hotels, gas and food. During this time she and Jake get very, very, chummy. Itās become known to her at this point that Jake is essentially off limits to her, being that heās the madames boyfriend. She knowingly continues her relationship with him and he turns out to be totally crazy pants.
Star is being trained by Jake on how to sell the subscriptions and during her training he makes her upset and she decides that sheās gonna do things her own way (she doesnāt like that heās making up stories and being dishonest for money) and she jumps into a convertible with three old Doug Dimmadomeās. They ask her whatās going on and sheās honest with them, she tells them that sheās trying to make money selling magazines but no one ever buys them. The men take her back to one of their houses and they get her drunk, betting money that she couldnāt eat the tequila worm.
She drinks the worm and makes an easy $400 off of these three cowboys. Jake starts howling to find her, and she howls back - thinking itās a wolf. He comes walking up the hill from over to the backyard of the home and he takes out a gun and starts shooting random things in the yard - forces all the men into the pool and they take everything they can grab and run. They even steal the car. Jake is pissed, thinking that she did something...extra for the cash, she assured him she did not and that she even got the slips for proof. This would later become a theme for Star. Going off with random old men in order to tell her story and make some cash. Jake always ends up finding her though.
In one scene Star sells her body to one of the guys she goes off with. He promises her a cool, 1k if sheāll let him touch her lady bits while he touches his own johnson (my judgement is on the guy for this - you really paid 1k to TOUCH vagina? Not even swim in it? Jesus - good for you though queen! If youāre gonna charge might as well make it worth it). After Star gets out of the truck she hears gun shots far behind her and realize that Jake came to the party. When she gets home he demands to know what she did and if she had sex with that man for cash. She says no - because she didnāt - and he forces his hands between her legs so he can SMELL for himself if someone else was in there...SMELL. Just...Jesus.
There was more to the movie after this but Easy and I honestly could not keep watching because it was that terrible. We turned it off.
-10/10: Highly DO NOT recommend.

Mid90ās - 2018 - Jonah Hill.
Mid90ās - 2018 - Jonah Hill
ššššš
First I want to start by commenting on the quality of this film. It was grainy, dull and overall VERY 90s. I hadnāt realized that the film was made in 2018 until I saw the guy that plays the cop in one of the scenes.
Jonah hill brilliantly tells the story of a young kid named Stevie (later nicked named Sun Burn) who meets a group of rag tag, skater boys at a place called Motor. Stevie meets Ruben first, and then meets Ray. The two boys treat him with kindness immediately and Stevie wants to be apart of their group. He meets the boys while theyāre outside of Motor, skating and he brings them water. Even that first day, they invited Stevie to come into the shop and hangout with them after skating.
While in the shop the boys are playing this game where they get to ask any questions they want and no one can get offended. One of the 4 boys that Stevie meets is 4th Grade (real name never said) and his question was for Ray. He was asking him if black folk could get sunburned because he āgenuinely wanted to knowā - Ray looks over at Stevie and asks him if he knew black folk could infact get sun burned and Stevie asks him āwhat are black people?ā (To be totally honest Iāve seen the movie about 3 times now and I still donāt understand this part to much haha, so if you do, please explain it!) 3 out of the 4 boys laugh at Stevieās answer and Ray and Fuckshit (real name never said) start calling Stevie, Sun Burn.
I think itās so cool to see how quickly Stevie forms a relationship with these boys - even though itās not really the kind of relationship that parents would want their young child having, he still finds a family when he feels like his family doesnāt care. Constantly being bullied by his older brother, I believe in a way Ray and Fuckshit are that for Stevie.
In the end Ray teaches Stevie how to skate, he gets in with the big dogs and heās just living what he feels in an over all ābadassā life. Drinking, going to parties, doing drugs and skating all day. At the last party the boys go to in the movie, Fuckshit has to much to drink but demands everyone get in the car and go with him to a party. Stevie sits up front & while all the boys are begging Fuckshit to pull over, he gets into an accident and Stevie is the only one to end up with injuries. The movie needs with 4th Grade showing the group of boys what he had been recording through the entire film.
This movie shoved me through a whirlwind of emotions but I think the hardest part to watch was during the first part they take Stevie to. One of the girls in the party takes him to the back room (the older boys were 17-18, so I assumed the girls were as well; Stevie is 11) and they get explicit. Which....couldnāt watch. Lol. As a 23 year old female, that entire scene just made me feel sick.
This movie was amazing though, if youāre looking to watch something nostalgic and old school (even though itās not old school, being made in 2018) this is a great watch. It gave me KID vibes. š Way to go Jonah Hill.
10/10: Highly Recommend if you like a good throwback.
Mercy Black - 2019 - Owen Everton
ššššš
Mercy Black just begins scary. The music is ominous and you see these two very young girls just dragging their friend across a field. The little girl is screaming and it all just seems incredibly bad (obviously) - almost instantly you can tell this kind of seems like the case of the two girls in 2012 who attempted to sacrifice their friend Payton in the name of Slenderman.
The girls get her into the woods and the carry out their plan to feed Mercy. The scene changes and one of the little girls, Marina, ends up in a psych ward. (They both do but, Marina is who the story is really about) - 15 years pass and we see Marina finally forgetting Mercy and trying to move back in with her family to restart her life. A series of strange things happen to her, where locals are basically tormenting her over what happened.
Marina finds out that Rebecca (the girl who told her the Mercy Black story when she was a young girl) had been released from the mental hospital before her and she sets out to find her so that she can find out if Mercy is actually real. In the end she finds out that Mercy was a lot more real than she had imagined. The girl they were supposed to offer up to Mercy was named Lily, and she didnāt die. She survived and she ends up bat shit crazy.
Marina finds the place where Mercy was supposed to live and finds everything that they made when they were kids (at this point she pretty much convinces herself it was all a sham - it was fake news) and she heads home convinced that itās all over. Marinaās sister and her nephew end up getting attacked because Bryce is communicating with Mercy. Lily abducts Bryce and takes him to Mercyās āhouseā and lures Marina there. She saves Bryce and in the actual end Lily tries to get Marina to still sacrifice her but Marina refuses to do so; just at that moment, Bryce takes the knife Lily has in her hand and plunges it into her eye. Killing her and making her Mercyās sacrifice. He shouts that he made a promise to Mercy and he had to - in the background Mercy pops up and in the hole in her mask where an eye would be if she had any - Lilyās eye opens up and at that moment you realize Mercy is alive.
10/10 - highly recommend if you like being scared. It really is a great watch.
