I used to be that crazy person that was strict about what I did and didn’t eat. I was so diligent with exercise. And as soon as I stopped thinking about it, I lost weight. I wasn’t stressing about it. The balance and relaxing is what’s really helped me.
Before, I didn’t have the privilege to choose what I wanted to do. I just wanted to work. But now I’m in a position where I can actually choose. When I just started as an actress, you go to L.A. and the managers and the agency set up general meetings with directors and writers. They always ask you the same questions: “What are you looking for? What types of movie would you like to do?” And I always said, “I’m open.” I’m very open to all different genres because I’m a very open-minded girl. But eventually, I told them that I wanted to be able to show the stronger side of women. I didn’t want to do the obvious role that you see in Hollywood most of the time, which is the heartbroken girl who’s waiting to be rescued by the guy, blah, blah, blah. I wanted to do something different. Little did I know that I would land Wonder Woman not long after.
“I think women are amazing for being able to show what they feel. I admire women who do. I think it’s a mistake when women cover their emotions to look tough. I say let’s own who we are and use it as a strength.”
I didn’t just want to play [Anne Boleyn] as this femme fatale – she was a genuine evangelical with a real religious belief in the Reformation. The show was an absolute joy because it was an amalgamation of my two greatest passions – drama and history. I read everything by Starkey… good old Starkey… opinionated Starkey… Antonia Fraser, all of them. But there is a lot of sex and violence in the programme, so it’s hard to explain it to the guy in the street who’s saying, ‘The Tudors? Tits, man!’

I wanted to just surround myself with people who I think are better than I am, whether they’re actors or directors or producers, so that I could learn from them.
To be honest, I’m crap at all of it [social media]. I can barely keep up with email and texts, let alone send out a public account of what I’m doing all day.
“It’s pretty apparent that humor is the diaphanous cover I use to protect myself. When someone creates this superstructure of verbiage and mental activity, it’s obvious she has some discomfort with emotion. Humor has always been my armor, which is kind of fantastic, because I take things very seriously.” – Carrie Fisher
Happy 36th birthday, Christopher Robert Evans! (June 13, 1981)
Brains are just noisy. We analyze the past, we worry about the future. Our consciousness is very spread out, and as a result, it’s hard to stay present. And if you can kind of stay present and know that that’s all that you have in life — life is just a series of nows — if you can kind of surrender to that, you can never lose.
