Offered Ugly Death with a Song in My Heart
Conscription was a new concept for the English in 1916. Â Single men between the ages of 18 and 40 were called to fight for their country, and Peter found that he was not to be exempt. Â He had had plans to flee the country, but found that such a thing was improbable. Â So, he packed a bag and was shipped out to fight in the Great War. Â But the battle was bloody and trench warfare led to heavy casualties on both sides. Â Prisoners were taken, wounds led to infection and amputation, and deaths were accepted as an everyday occurrence.
He watched as his comrades fell, one by one, and he wanted nothing more than to get away from all the death and destruction.  And that release came, though not in the way that he anticipated.  For Peter Pan’s name should have been added to the growing roster of names of soldiers who paid the ultimate sacrifice in the war.  But, where there is blood, a vampire is sure to be near.
The battle had ended, and corpses lay in the field, waiting to be taken and buried in shallow graves or shipped off if they could be identified.  Men roamed through the ranks, dragging body after body away.  But, before a fellow soldier could take Peter’s body away, a vampire approached him first, and Peter was bitten.
Intense pain was the first thing that Peter knew when he slowly returned to consciousness. Â The vampire who had bitten him had dragged Peter away, so he would not be found before the transformation was complete and so the sunlight would not cause any damage to the newborn undead vampire. Â It seemed to him that poison was coursing through his veins, and Peter wanted nothing more than for death to come. Â But it never did.
Suddenly, he felt stronger, his senses were more accute, and sunlight burned his skin immediately. Â His teeth were sharper and he had an undeniable thirst for blood. Â There were tales of vampires, but they were dismissed as fairytales and legends. Â But now, Peter could no longer deny that these stories were very much true. Â He roamed the country by night, sleeping during the day, and never staying in any one place for long.
After a decade or sol, Peter noticed that he was no longer aging, while the people in his town continued to grow up and change. Â Eventually, he decided that he needed some companions to keep him occupied during such a long existence. Â He found some young men, around his age, that seemed to be wasting away in a hospital from various diseases. Â Peter would find ways to off them, slipping poison into their meals, or taking away medicines that were vital to their survival. Â As soon as the men were dead, Peter was quick to change them, and was sure to be there when they awoke.
This group traveled together, causing some trouble wherever they went.  But it never seemed to take long before the people in their towns started to notice that bloodless corpses began to appear not long after these boys would come.  Deciding that it was too risky to travel in a pack, Peter abandoned his group of men to once again set out on his own.  He’d feed on the weaker members of a town, believing that he was doing everyone a favor by offing them.  If anyone put up a fight, he would terrorize them, taking out their whole family and driving the person insane before finally putting them out of their misery.
It was all a game to him, really. Â To see how far he could push a person before they finally cracked and begged him to end it all. Â Sometimes, he would listen, and others, he would simply change them after he had killed them--sentencing them to eternal damnation after their transformation was complete.
Once, he picked the wrong target and the girl’s family swore revenge on Peter Pan.  Her grandmother was a witch, and cursed him so that he was re-gifted his soul.  Now, Peter is forced to feel the pain of all he did to those people.  Living in Disney, Peter still finds that he lurks in the shadows, but tries to find ways to make amends for the wrongs he once committed.  His thirst for blood is still strong, but he looks for more willing victims, careful to never suck them completely dry.  Being an undead vampire, he tries to keep an eye on all those that are living vampires, and make sure that they do not follow down the treacherous road that he once was on.
