Dude, Route 66 is such a slammin’ song, but isn’t it sorta–I dunno, cliche? Like, everybody sings that whenever they get within ten feet of a car or a highway, don’t they?

I’m always down with Aero, though. Why should I sing Sinatra? I mean, the dude’s classic, but I dunno if he’s really my speed.

Kinda. That’s why I suggested the Rolling Stones version, since it’s a little different. Felt wrong not to put it on the list, but I get what you’re saying. 

We’ll keep Aero in the pocket then. I know, but think about the surprise factor of you switching it up. Also, and I can’t believe I’m telling you this, but I guarantee Alistair would really... like it.

MADISON: (is probably blushing, looks down somewhat abashed) Things ... feel pretty good with you, too. (finally nestles into the crook of his arm and takes his other hand)

RODERICK: (smiles softly and squeezes Madison's hand slightly) Then I guess we're... doing something right.

ALISTAIR: hey! when're you coming to visit?? I miss you!!

RODERICK: Hey, Al.

RODERICK: I've been around. Just busy with classes and... spending time with Madison.

RODERICK: I'm helping Spencer out with this glee assignment though, so you'll probably see me more.

One option is to go old school with some Sinatra, Come Fly With Me. Not expecting you to pick this, but I kinda wanna see it anyway. Alistair would probably like it. 

Another interesting, kinda chill choice would be Red Hot Chili Peppers, Road Trippin’

The other are more in your wheelhouse with the classic rock. Eagles Already Gone, Aerosmith Permanent Vacation, or the Rolling Stones version of Route 66.

MADISON: Wait ... really? (pause, a slow smile spreads across her face) Usually I hear the complete opposite from people. I make things too weird or /un/comfortable.

RODERICK: Yeah, really. I mean you used to... kinda do that. Just cause you and Mase are kinda... intense. But knowing you more now, I don't know. Everything just feels good.

MADISON: (looks up, curious) Of course. Anything.

RODERICK: I'm not always like... super comfortable with people, ya know? But I am with you. Comfortable. It's a... nice feeling. So I wanted you to know.

MADISON: Something nice, but funny, with a happy ending? Maybe a classic romance? (leans in close, comfortable against his side)

RODERICK: Classics are my specialty. (chews on his lip momentarily as he settles in) Can I tell you something?

MADISON: (frowns) I'm not trying to decide it. I -- I already know what's best. He clearly doesn't, and that's not new -- (cuts herself off with a sigh) No. I don't want to do this on our date night. Let's just find a movie and focus on us?

RODERICK: (lays a hand on Madison's head and runs it over her hair) Yeah, okay. Whatever you want. What kinda movie would you like to watch?

MADISON: That's not trying to protect him from anything. That's ... being concerned about his life. I want what's best for him.

RODERICK: That's... kinda one of the definitions of protecting, Mads. Trying to decide what's best for somebody. He thinks keeping his feelings from you is what's best for you.

MADISON: Of course I know that. I'm not trying to protect him from anything.

RODERICK: (shrugs) Duly Noted? College? Not that it's any of my business.

MADISON: He doesn't need to protect me. He should know that by now.

RODERICK: Do you know you don't need to protect him?

MADISON: ... oh. It ... probably is. (a beat, as she scoots a little closer) I hadn't actually thought about it like that. I mean, I'm just mad at /them/; I don't see a reason to take it out on him.

RODERICK: (leans back and rests his arm on the back of the couch) He probably doesn't realize he's taking it out on you. Things are different now though and he's... reacting. He might even be trying to protect you from everything he's feeling.

MADISON: (raises an eyebrow) They're ... okay, I guess. He's still being weird, like ... he won't talk to me about all the things that he used to, and it's getting harder to understand what he really means all the time. I don't like feeling like he doesn't care, or like he's not putting in the same kind of effort that I am. And I know I should just ... trust him, because he's my brother, and that's not going to /change/, but ... (sighs) I'm sorry. You didn't ask for all of this. Basically, things haven't changed that much since the last time we talked, but I'm hoping that they might get better once I move back into the house.

RODERICK: No, hey. I asked, it's okay. I know things have been weird and I want you to be able to talk about it and stuff. I know for a fact that he cares about you though. The whole divorce thing's probably... affecting him.

MADISON: I don't have to go. I was ... kind of hoping I could stay, too. (smiles softly and scoots over to make room on the couch)

RODERICK: Good. I mean... cool. We could check out Netflix or... talk, like I said. How are things with Mason?

MADISON: Oh! Sure. (suddenly nervous as she sits, despite knowing she doesn't need to be) What'd you have in mind?

RODERICK: Nothing in particular. We could just talk if you wanted. Or if you need to go, I-- I understand. I just thought we could hang out or something. If you wanted.

MADISON: (laughing) Mason might, now that he's basically fending for himself ... if you really want to give him your reject pasta. Or you could just keep it? It can't be that bad?

RODERICK: Oh, no, it's good! I just... have a lot of it. One guy can only eat so much pasta. (leading them over to the couch) So... would you like to watch a movie or something?
