A "Stride in Personal growth"
I've thought long and hard about this and my new year's resolution is to love more and care less. How is this possible you ask? Let me explain.
I think my biggest fault is that when it comes to people I care about I take things way too personally. I live by that age old saying, "Treat others how you want to be treated." Because of this, I have very high expectations when it comes to my friends and family. I give a lot and so I expect as much in return.
As a friend of mine said, "you must be disappointed often." This is true. When situations happen I'm often left thinking "Why the f*ck would you do that shit? I would never do that to you." and I'm left dumbfounded. To me the things that I get upset about are common sense. Black and white. And the closer you are to me the more frustrating it is and the deeper it touches my heart. What I'm trying to do, and as this same friend pointed out, is understand that though I have a reason to feel the way I do everyone has their own moral compass and what they believe is right and wrong may not exactly coincide with my own.
So I guess what I'm trying to say is that I want to focus not so much on what a person may have said or done but more so on their intentions behind it. In other words, care less about the more trivial things and things I can't change and direct my attention more towards the person as a whole and why I care about them in the first place and understand that not everyone thinks or sees things the way I do. I'm trying to free my heart from the weight of resentment and learn to be more forgiving even if I don't necessarily agree.
