Anyone know any good Founders Era HP fics? I’m dying to read some good Helgazar!
I was tagged by scared-of-clouds, since I am indeed following her and she tagged any of her followers so there...
Name: Alex Nicknames: Alex is technically a nickname for Alexandra but I don't go by anything else unless you're my dad, then Al Birthday: April 25th Gender: Female Sexuality: Straight Height: 5’4" Time Zone: EST in the US, GMT -5 What time and date is it there: 12:25 PM on August 30th, 2014 Average hours of sleep I get each night: 7 or 8. I get more in the summer (around 10) and less in the winter (around 6) so it evens out. The last thing I Googled was: time zones, so I could figure out which GMT time zone I was in My most used phrase(s): Either "It's cool" or "Knock it off." The latter is said to my cats and my students in equal measure. First word that comes to mind: cat (one of them is trying to get my attention at the moment, it is time for food) What I last said to a family member: Probably "Bye" although if we're counting text conversations then "Winslow" because we were talking about where I failed my driving test the first time. One place that makes me happy & why: My spot on my couch in my living room. I've sat here so many time that there is a permanent dent in the cushion and it's shaped in such a way that it can't be flipped to protect my dignity. Oh well. It's comfy and formed to my butt and feels like home. How many blankets I sleep under: Just a sheet and a comforter, regardless of season. Sometimes I sleep with one leg out though, in case it's just a bit warm Favorite beverage(s): Diet Coke. I believe at this point that my blood is partly Coke. Last movie I watched in the cinema: The Hundred-Step Journey. It was fantastic and I recommend everyone to go see it. Three things I can’t live without: Laptop, phone, cross-stitch (currently working on Thomas Kincade's Beauty and the Beast and it's coming along quite nicely) Something I plan to learn: Spanish, even if it's just a bit more than the conversational Spanish I know now. A lot of my Zumba attendees are bilingual and I'd like to be able to talk to them in a language they understand clearer than English. A piece of advice for all my followers: "Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind." -Dr. Seuss (Theodore Geisel) You all have to listen to this song: Shake it Off by Taylor Swift
I'm not really close enough with anyone on Tumblr to tag them but if you read this and you want to do it, say that I tagged you! And tag me in the post so I can read it!
Marauders Era Challenge: Day 22
Blacks or Potters?
I love the Potters. I really wish they could have stayed together as a family. Obviously, if they had, there would be no books but still. I'm going to make myself sad if I think about their tragic deaths any more so here, have some flirty!James, silly!Lily and amused!Harry.
Marauders Era Challenge: Day 21
A character from the Trio era you would have been interesting in the Marauder's era?
Ron Weasley
I'm not sure why but I feel like Ron would be the one who would relax and go with the flow if he were suddenly sucked back in time. He would probably be extremely confused at first but he would figure things out, if a bit later than Hermione or Harry would have. He would, most likely, get along with the Marauders better than others, especially with their obsession with having a good time and their penchant for hurting others in their fun.
Marauders Era Challenge: Day 20
A character you would like to be/be friends with?
Frank Longbottom (and Alice too but it said "a" character). I'm not really sure exactly why I think Frank Longbottom would be amazing and awesome and funny. Maybe it's because I love the little bit he's in so far in Fighting Fate. Maybe it's because my fancast of him is Jim Sturgess who is all kinds of adorable. I don't really have a reason for this one. Just letting my emotions take over.
The gif is from this BEAUTIFUL gifset I found by this lovely person.
Marauders Era Challenge: Day 19
A character you wish there was more information about?
Peter Pettigrew. Every time I try to write about Peter or from his point of view, I can't. I know, relatively, the background for all of the marauders except him! I can't seem to burrow my way into his head, no matter how hard I try. It's frustrating. Maybe a little peak into his childhood would enlighten me a bit. What do you say, JK?
Marauders Era Challenge: Day 18
A character you feel you relate to?
Another obvious answer but this would have to be Lily Evans. From my red hair and green eyes to my slow-burning temper that is difficult to quench once aroused, I have loved the character of Lily from "Snape's Worst Memory" onwards.
Art here. The photo is of me and my adorable gato, Artemis, catcher of pesky bugs and stealer of hearts.
Marauders Era Challenge: Day 17
A different character you never would have killed off?
Peter Pettigrew. I'm not saying that he didn't deserve what he got but his death at that point in the books seemed like an unnecessary addition to the ever rising death toll. I think that if Peter had to die, it should have been more on its own. It's too close to Dobby's death for my liking.
Marauders Era Challenge: Day 16
A character you would bring back to life?
Remus Lupin. Out of all the characters that died from the Marauders Era, I would choose to bring him back. If I brought back Lily, it wouldn't be fair to James and vice versa and while Sirius's death was tragic, he had no one besides Harry to live for. Remus had a son, he had a wife, and he had the beginnings of a happy life. It was vastly unfair to cut such a promising life so short.
Marauders Era Challenge: Day 15
Your Marauders Era dreamcast?
James Potter: Hugh Dancy
Sirius Black: Ben Barnes
Remus Lupin: Andrew Garfield
Peter Pettigrew: Alex Arnold
Lily Evans: Sophie Turner
Severus Snape: Louis Garrel

**This was inspired by the current World Cup craze**
It was worth it, Lily thought to herself as she looked up into James’ face. It had all been completely worth it.
Planning had started over six months in advance. She and James had only been dating for a month and a half, but Lily knew, even then, that this would be one for the record books. She had enlisted Sirius’ help in her master scheme. He had only expressed disappointment that he hadn’t thought of it himself.
Step one had been saving. Lily needed a lot of money to make her plan a reality. Remus had tried to contribute what little he had. Peter had attempted to sneak a galleon or two into her bag. Sirius had practically chucked a bag of galleons at her when she was studying in the library. But Lily refused to take money from any of them. This was her gift to James.
Step two of the plan had been distraction. Lily needed Sirius to make sure James would not get his hands on his gift for himself. She knew he would be counting down the minutes until tickets for the Quidditch World Cup became available and Lily needed to make sure he didn’t get them. Sirius did his job perfectly. James missed his father’s owl asking him if he wanted tickets and by the time James read the message, James’s dad had been informed that it was already taken care of.
Step three was luck. Lily had some connections through Slughorn but there was no guarantee she would get two such great tickets. She knew she’d be sending Slughorn his favorite crystallized pineapple until she was eighty years old to pay him back for the strings he pulled for her but James was worth it.
Step four was sheer providence. Everyone had placed bets that the Cup would be between Egypt and Germany. No one had expected England to come from behind and rank in the top two teams, set to play the final match against Egypt. And the fact that the cup would be held just outside of Paris was the icing on the cake for Lily. She had always wanted to visit.
Step five was joy. James’s face was beautific when he opened the small present on his birthday, revealing two tickets in the top box to the greatest game he could imagine seeing. Lily couldn’t remember a better kiss than the one he gave her in gratitude. Perhaps because neither of them could recall ever smiling so much.
Step six was mild disappointment when James’s favorite player, Chaser Aiden Hawksworth, became injured and was going to be unable to play.
Step seven became frustration as Lily tried to learn the easy rules and increasingly complicated fouls in Quidditch. She had never been truly interested in Quidditch and had only come to the games at school to be with friends and support Gryffindor. But she learned them, if only for James’s excitement when she finally grasped why it was important for stooging to be declared a foul to protect the Keeper and discourage unnecessary roughness.
Step eight was courage and restraint as James and Lily went on their own to the site of the 418th Quidditch World Cup just outside Paris. Neither of them knew the area and getting swept up in a crowd of avid Quidditch fans was dangerous work. Lily was nearly trampled and James had to rein in his temper to avoid setting fire to a few of Egypt supporters’ more colorful mockeries of England’s players on their tents.
Step nine, however, was perfect happiness as Lily and James climbed to the top box and took their seats next to a young man sitting alone. A quick conversation with their seat-mate revealed that he was (as James had suspected) Aiden Hawksworth, James’s favorite Quidditch player.
Lily looked up at James’s face during the first release of the Quaffle, Bludgers, and Snitch and smiled. All the hard work, the favors she had called in, and the frustrations and worries to get here had completely and utterly been worth it. James took his eyes off of the game for a moment to look back down at Lily, entirely contented with his lot in life, sitting between the woman he loved and the quidditch player he admired, watching the game he adored played by the team of his choosing. Life was complete perfection.
Marauders Era Challenge: Day 13
Rewrite/remake a scene.
I know this isn't exactly going to be re-writing or re-making a scene but here is my interpretation on what happened to Snape and the Marauders after the glimpse that Harry saw in the pensieve.
***
[LILY turns and walks off into the castle.]
JAMES: (yelling after her) Evans! Hey, Evans! (after realizes that she is not going to come back) What’s with her?
SIRIUS: Reading between the lines, I’d say she thinks you’re a bit conceited, mate.
JAMES: (furious) Right. Right…
[JAMES turns back to SEVERUS and casts the spell to make him float upside-down again.]
JAMES: (to the crowd) Who wants to see me take off Snivelly’s pants?
[The SLYTHERINS in the crowd step forward and point their wands at JAMES and SIRIUS.]
AVERY: Let him go, Potter. I won’t hesitate to curse you like that Mudblood.
[JAMES, so infuriated at the further insult to LILY, drops his wand and begins advancing on AVERY. He raises his fist but is stopped by REMUS.]
REMUS: It’s not worth it. Just calm down.
[JAMES takes a deep breath and steps away from AVERY and the rest of the SLYTHERINS. He gives them one last glare before going back to the beech tree with REMUS and SIRIUS. SEVERUS gradually gets up from the ground and walks towards the castle, soon enveloped in the midst of the group of SLYTHERINS who had protected him.]

Marauders Era Challenge: Day 12
A scene you wish went differently in the films?
This was a no-brainer for me. I was so disappointed that my favorite chapter in Order of the Phoenix was reduced to a measly few seconds in the movie. I feel that this scene means so much more to the overall character development of not only Snape but Harry. More time should have been devoted to it and less to Cormac McLaggen licking ice cream off his fingers. (Although I do love Cormac dearly.)
Marauders Era Challenge: Day 11
A scene that made you smile/laugh?
From when I was 9 years old and reading Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban for the first time to now, I have always found the Marauders' insults toward Severus Snape to be just about the funniest things in the books. Sirius's comment will always be my favorite.
The gif of Alan Rickman is what I supposed Severus's reaction was to the comments.
Marauders Era Challenge: Day 10
The scene that made you cry most?
"Well it's nothing to be ashamed of?" said Mrs. Longbottom angrily. "You should be proud, Neville, proud! They didn't give their health and their sanity so their only son would be ashamed of them, you know!"
"I'm not ashamed," said Neville very faintly, still looking anywhere but at Harry and the others. Ron was now standing on tiptoe to look over at the inhabitants of the two beds.
"Well, you've got a funny way of showing it!" said Mrs. Longbottom. "My son and his wife," she said, turning haughtily to Harry, Ron, Hermione, and Ginny, "were tortured into insanity by You-Know-Who's followers."
...
Neville's mother had come edging down the ward in her nightdress. She no longer had the plump, happy-looking face Harry had seen in Moody's old photograph of the original Order of the Phoenix... [S]he made timid motions toward Neville, holding something in her outstretched hand.
"Again?" said Mrs. Longbottom, sounding slightly weary. "Very well, Alice dear, very well - Neville, take it, whatever it is..."
But Neville had already stretched out his hand, into which his mother dropped an empty Droobles Blowing Gum wrapper.
"Very nice, dear," said Neville's grandmother in a falsely cheery voice, patting his mother on the shoulder. But Neville said quietly, "Thanks Mum."
...
I think the scene speaks enough for itself but I cannot keep from crying at this part every time I read it. Frank and Alice Longbottom were brave. They were brave for themselves and they were brave for their son and they deserved so much more than what they received out of life, like so many in that tragic generation.
Marauders Era Challenge: Day 9
Favorite Animagus?
My head canon is that it was James's idea for the rest of the Marauders to become animagi to help Remus with his transformations. It seems to fit into his character of extreme loyalty to find out that one of his best mates was a werewolf and thus to go and find out as much as he could about werewolves. He would have read that they weren't as dangerous to other animals and probably, after much thought, arrived at the conclusion that he, Sirius, and Peter must turn into animals. Hence, my love for James and his animagus form.
