Stop "crushing" women, guys.
I am not a feminist.
But, I have now heard too many of my guy friends say, to a woman, they plan on "crushing" her. It's violent, gross, demeaning and carries undertones that shouldn't be passed on to the next generation.
Most people, when asked what spiritual quality is needed to rebuild civilization, will reply "Love." Men must love another, they say; nations must do likewise, and then the series of cataclysms which is threatening to destroy us will be checked. Respectfully but firmly I disagree. Love is a great force in private life... but in public affairs it does not work. In public affairs and rebuilding civilization, something much less dramatic and emotional is needed, namely, tolerance. Tolerance is a very dull virtue. It is boring.... This is the only force which will enable different races and classes and interests to settle down together to the work of reconstruction.

Before the American war in Iraq Arabs didn't identify much with their religion. Now the Middle East has become a very sectarian region. Are you a Sunni, Shia, Coptic Christian, Mennonite Christian, Jew, North African-Jew, Sufi or Alawite? This is a frightening reality that we as ARABS must fight alongside the revolutions that are currently taking center stage. The Arab world was divided into arbitrary nation-states by the French and British in 1919 but Arabs have lived in the region for thousands of years. This is a fact that cannot and should not be forgotten. Arabs are cut from the same cloth and if we embrace the mentality of sectarian divides we will unravel.
Arabs should stick together.
