Bella’s eyes widened at her friends confession, “Excuse me? Did you just say what I think you just said?” If she had known she was dealing with a newbie she wouldn’t have been quite so competitive. Now she was definitely going to have to keep an eye on Nora.

“Well I’m glad you already know the rules, but I think maybe you should play with water for a bit.” she told her friend, giggling, “Or else you’re going to hate me in the morning.” She put her arm around her friends shoulders, leading her down the hall and out the door, “Are you having fun?”

“I m-mean it’s not like the ‘first-first’ time, but it’s the first time getting ‘this-this’ drunk.” Nora giggled again, for what seemed like the twentieth time - she couldn’t help it, even if she tried. “With water?” She covered her mouth with her hand, realizing she was talking louder than usually, but was shocked with Bella suggesting water. “Water is dumb. Water is for babies, and I’m not a baby.”

Nora felt herself getting guided out, but wasn’t comprehending how she was moving. She grinned, feeling as though she was moving fast and slow all at the same time. “I am having fun. But, but where are all the boys? Cute boys, I’m here!” She shouted, giggling the whole time.

“I’m really not a cat person. We had one when I was a kid and he hated me so much my parents kept us on opposite sides of the house. He wasn’t allowed on my side and I wasn’t allowed on his. I’m not sure if a smaller dog would be less, or more maintenance. Because they usually tend to be divas.”

“I’m not really a cat person either. They are just - I don’t know, bossy? My grandmother had a cat and that thing was just asking for trouble, trying to attack my legs every time I walked by. Divas is a good word to use, it’s actually perfect, because they are. Well, I say you get the dog - get whatever you want, anything is better than a cat.”

Things were messy, he knew that. Messy enough for him to know that he couldn’t just bail on her once they had got to the hospital, even if he’d much rather just go home and forget about this whole thing. James knew that if she had mentioned to the doctor that she was hit by a car, they would probably involve the police and somehow to start look for the guilty driver. Well… He hadn’t seen any police cars yet, but that didn’t mean she could have still said something. After a few, long hours of waiting along with other, more impatient loved ones scattered around him, finally, he glanced to the side just in time to spot her, limping and slowly making her way forward on crutches. He hadn’t expected much else, really. Getting back up on his feet quickly, he turned towards her, eying her up and down, taking in the damage of his own recklessness. “Hey.” Eyes landing back on hers, he forced a vague smile, trying to make the situation less strange. “How are you feeling?” She looked surprised to see him, and silently he wondered if she had managed to put two and two together during her time of getting patched up. Did she know now that he was the one to blame for this whole thing? Well, even if she didn’t, it was about time he told her. At least he’d tried to make the best of the situation after the accident, right? That had to count for something, and if not, he’d do his best trying to make it up to her still, as long as it meant not involving any authorities.

“I didn’t expect you to stick around,” she confessed abruptly, relieved to know she wasn’t left alone in the emergency room, because Nora absolutely hated emergency rooms. She smiled softly, exhausted from the night that just seemed to drag on and on. With the crutches settled underneath her armpits, she shifted her weight, trying to get more comfortable before she spoke up. “Well the doctor said it could’ve been worse, and I guess he’s right.” She laughed uncomfortably, trying to lighten the mood a little bit, realizing that the worse could have been death. Nora wanted to cry, and she bravely fought back tears that overwhelmed her. “I just don’t understand why someone could do something like - just leave me and not help me.” She sighed, trying her best to tuck a loose strand of hair behind her ear, but gave up once it fell back down for the third time. “I-I just want to go home. You’ve done so much for me already, James, but can you drive me home, please?”

Bella grinned at her friend, shaking her head, “Karaoke is so much more fun once we’re drunk! Plus I won’t care how much I suck if I can’t remember it in the morning!” Despite her flawless plan, it seemed that Nora was doing all the drinking for both of them. She hadn’t managed to make a shot yet, so Bella was pretty much stone-cold-sober. “That was the last game, I swear.” she promised, walking over to Nora. As her friend turned and exclaimed something about shots, Bella laughed, “I think you need a shot of water. Why don’t I take two shots so I can catch up to where you’re at?” Although she wanted her friend to have a good time, she wanted her to be able to remember it in the morning, “Then we’ll go get some fresh air and I can explain how flip cup works!”

Nora snorted, “Kare-i-oak-eee if fun no matter what!” She could feel the warmth from the alcohol filtering throughout her body, but her neck was unusually warm. Nora seemed a little wobbly, but kept her balance and noticed a change in her own demeanor - she felt ballsier. “I have to tell you something,”Nora leaned in closer, cupping her hand around her own mouth, “I’ve never been drunk before,” she whispered, booping Bella’s nose.

Why don’t I take two shots so I can catch up to where you’re at?”

Nora smiled, winking at Bella in agreement, “I know how flip cup works! You flip the cups and i-if you don’t flip it the right way -” Nora’s speech was slow and higher in pitch than normal, “then you’re out of there!” Nora giggled, her conscience slipping into oblivion. “And that’s science, kids.”

Open ✧ spring cleaning

The front lawn of the Haverford home was littered with brown boxes, a table with various trinkets and a few racks of clothing. Not to mention the abundance of old cycling gear that no longer served a purpose for the competitive cyclist since outgrowing the majority of the items. It was one of those decluttering/spring cleaning ventures that always seemed to be more work than they were worth, a notion Victoria came to realize her own was no exception to. “Take it all. It’s a garage sale for a reason…oh, wait except that.” the brunette reached out to retrieve one of the items that really had no value of wealth but held far too much sentimental value for someone else to call it their own. “Just not this.”

“Oh.” It was all Nora could say when the girl swiped the item out of her hands. It was quick and painless, since Nora didn’t get a chance to attach herself to it yet. “I’m sorry, I just figured it was for sale, sorry.” With an embarrassed smile, Nora struggled to keep the books steady in her hands, “Moving sale?” She questioned, kneeling down to juggle the books around for a better grip. Nora loved yard sales - it was her thing to do every Saturday. It was also her thing to do as a child, but not by choice. Her parent’s would drag her and her siblings out every Saturday morning to rummage through the used clothes and toys they would find at garage sales or yard sales. They called it ‘treasure hunting’, but Nora’s siblings caught on quickly to their charade, but Nora loved it.

He couldn’t help but notice that his approach and verbal initiation elicited some kind of noise–– unsure exactly of what it had been, but he did begin to laugh, releasing it fully as he noticed her show a glimmer of mirth as well. His arms were crossed over his chest, palms resting under his armpits, “Was that a cough or a sneeze?” He asked jovially, jest in his tone, clearly not judging her, but more so curious, “–Or something else completely?”

“It could’ve been a sneeze, but it was too early to tell.” She comfortably joked back. “I’m sorry, I get scared pretty easily, I’ll jump at the tiniest things - I’m sorry,” she apologized again, a habit of hers. “I hear everyone buying tickets for that one with Jim in it - from The Office. I can’t think of his name, but it’s that one.” Nora wasn’t knowledgeable when it came to movies or actors, but when it came to English related subjects, she was a pro. “I’m just here to pass the time, so I don’t really care what to watch - I don’t really do this whole movie, theater going thing, to crowded in my opinion.”

“Chug, chug, chug!” Bella yelled at her opponent, the mood at the party lifting even more if that was possible. There was nothing better than a good game of beer pong to get Bella as far away from her dark past, or at least for forget it for a little while. “I think you need a little more practice cause I’m pretty sure this is the second game you’ve lost.”

She tried to resist the urge to break out into a rendition of ‘We Are the Champions’, even though it would have been well deserved. She used to be so bad at this game, but it seemed like she’d only gotten better with age; thought she was sure she’d regret the hangover in the morning.

“I’m n-not,” She hiccuped, catching the air that was trying to escape from her mouth, “I’m not good at this drinking game - or any of these games. I thought we were going to karaoke?” Nora didn’t like the fact that it sounded like she was yelling because she wasn’t upset, she just couldn’t hear herself talk over the unnecessarily loud music that was playing. And if she was being honest with herself, she regretted that she forgot the Excedrin at home. “Please tell me that was the last game. I don’t think I can take anymore of this cheap beer, it’s disgusting.” Feeling a little big braver because of the alcohol, Nora’s glossy eyes lit up, as she turned towards Bella, “L-let’s do a shot!”

Running late was not an Addison thing, he’d always been Mr. Punctual, yet today, it was happening, the entire day so far had turned into a complete and utter shit show — a shit show that meant he was leaving Nora waiting. As he skidded into the coffee shop, he caught sight of her on the other side of the room, and then quickly weaved his way in and out of the already crowded table. “Hey!” he greeted her, slightly breathless as he dropped down into the seat opposite hers. “Believe me when I say I was on time until like twenty minutes ago.” He paused a moment, realised that wasn’t entirely true, and then had to cringe. “Okay, no, it’s just been one of those mornings.”

"Well, then,”she grinned, “I’ve never seen the great Addison Bailey so flustered before - I guess there’s a first for everything.” She said, scooting the drink and sandwich towards him, with a grin. “The good news it, you’ve made it miraculously unscathed and I’ve already ordered your favorites!” Nora picked up her sandwich and took a small bite, regretting the add-in of onions. She glanced over at Ade, happy that they’ve grown so close in such a short amount of time. It was nice to have someone to vent to, someone who understood the pain of dealing with children - or teenagers, in her case, which were just the same to her. “So, what’s got you all late?”
