I graduated from college recently and am enrolled in a year long program to get my teaching certificate. I'd like to use this tumblr to keep track of what I'll be experiencing in my practicum and student teaching. Hopefully I'll have a classroom of my own next fall and continue using this tumblr to display student work and ideas.

Learning about Cezanne and still lifes in second grade. Second week of student teaching

Kindergartners read Tacky the Penguin and were able to learn how to draw and paint one afterwards

1st graders are weaving this week

2nd graders are doing a project on sunsets and silhouettes. They created the sky using chalk and the landscape was painted in afterwards. I've been enjoying the project and I think the students are as well.

I've done a simplified version of mono printing during my practicum where we inked a piece of paper, laid a clean sheet on top and drew an image with a pencil causing the pressure from the pencil to leave an imprint on the other side. I feel like I didn't explain that the best but ah well. This image was printed using masking tape, something I would like to attempt.

A great, talented, and dear friend of mine is about to begin her fourteen week teaching internship at an elementary school. I remember the time before I began student teaching as exciting and extremely nerve wracking. It seemed so long, and, honestly, I really didn’t know what I was doing....

When young people learn about art, they learn about DaVinci or Botticelli. These artists are important but they do not suffice for representing life in the present. Not many high school students know about contemporary art. It should be known by every student that there are thousands of people out there trying to better our society - now and for future generations- through their artwork.
