Hubble Telescope image vs. James Webb Telescope
This first image from NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope is the deepest and sharpest infrared image of the distant universe to date. Known as Webb’s First Deep Field, this image of galaxy cluster SMACS 0723 is overflowing with detail. Thousands of galaxies – including the faintest objects ever observed in the infrared – have appeared in Webb’s view for the first time. This slice of the vast universe covers a patch of sky approximately the size of a grain of sand held at arm’s length by someone on the ground.
shit man this got me emotional
The Fly (1986) dir. David Cronenberg
“… the real threat to science is not from the ways in which it is influenced by its cultural context, nor the philosophical and social critiques that draw those influences out. Rather, the real threat is from those people who would manipulate scientific knowledge for their own interests or obscure it from the policy makers who might act on it. We are good at dismissing philosophical worries and acting when necessary. We are much less good at protecting ourselves from those who pedal misinformation.” • The Misinformation Age: How False Beliefs Spread by Cailin O’Connor & James Owen Weatherall 🔬💭🗞

Looking forward to the cold crisp air blowing thrive orange leaves, to warm sweaters and fuzzy socks on cold and rainy days, and to scented candles and the smell of freshly baked goods filling the air...
