Last night, after a debrief with the local police, we've suspended our search for Harrison. While the results were not ideal, they were by no means negative. The past week has been one the most physically, intellectually and emotionally challenging experiences of my life. It has also been one of the most rewarding. The technical skills and insight that this kind of experience generates does not compare to the bond, respect and admiration I have gained for my team members. These guys are the best of the best. There is a reason they are called first-responders; flying thousands of miles, leaving family behind and in some cases forgetting toothbrushes. The Search and Rescue Community is small but global and I’m doing my best to express my gratitude for the opportunity to witness them in action. Furthermore, the community of family, friends and strangers that reached out to the team with overwhelming support was mind blowing. Facilitated through social media, the international response is really a testament to the importance that Harrison’s life means to so many. That such a professional and heartfelt effort has been executed on his behalf is a reflection of his character and in turn, of the character of his parents and family. Personally, there’s a lot to process. For now, it’s time to rest. (hier: Lauterbrunnen Valley)
