Okay, actually, I have really strong feelings about the original panel:

compared to Chihiro's memory of what happened:

When they first met, Hakuri said what he needed in his life was a samurai (someone brave, strong, and capable) and specifically identified Chihiro as that samurai.

When Chihiro thinks back on that moment, "that's you!!!" is missing. This could be a matter of translation (I'm not the person to ask) but I like to think it's done on purpose. Chihiro doesn't consider himself the samurai that Hakuri needs, so he omits that part from his recollection.

I need a moment where Hakuri gets to remind Chihiro that he's been the samurai he needed all along. That's not even subtext. That's just text.

I am loving how Kagurabachi has brought in a really cool literary idea with the Iori arc (as of chapter 74) that I realized while info dumping to my sister

The idea in question is the undergoing of perilous trials in an effort for a good outcome vs. the avoidance of peril in the fear of the possibility of a bad outcome, which is brilliant in how Chihiro and Samura echo those respectively.

Chihiro has undergone the hellish gauntlet of gangsters, a mad scientist/weapons dealer, a black market auctioneer, and fighting to defeat the puppet master at the head of the hishaku. But, crucially he's done it of his own will, and has gone down this road not for his personal safety, but because it is what is RIGHT.

Samura on the other hand, has run away from the perils life has thrown his way, whether it be destruction of the shinuchi master, his marriage, raising his daughter, or the malediction, he has continually lived in fear. But now, his fears are done waiting for him. The fact is that Chihiro has picked up the Enten again, his daughter has grown and wants answers, and the malediction draws ever nearer.

I cannot wait to see what Hokazono cooks with this

god this spread is stunning. as soon as i turned the page and saw the black speech bubble i just sat there and smiled to myself. the rendering on this page is soooo satisfying. especially in the samura closeup. the faint outline around the screen tone is so stylish.

"I wouldn't trade that time for anything" vs "the six months we spent together as father and daughter came to an end when I left Iori." Chihiro & Kunishige in the fish bowl vs the empty room. the fact that Iori fought so hard to stay with her dad, because she wouldn't trade time with another person she loved for anything, either.
