We haven’t been using tumblr for a while, but we wanted to pop bck in and tell you that we’re no longer going to be using this blog as a platform. We’re not Dead!
Wow, it sure has been a long time since we posted here, huh? Sorry about that;;; Just wanted to pop in and let you all know that we’re not dead. We took a bit of a break from the cosplay photography scene for a while because the community wasn’t feeling like a very positive environment for a while there. Too many people willing to hijack posts and undercut prices in order to gain clientelle. And the whole business with the no-shows at AB kind of killed our enthusiasm for the whole thing We’ve also been having most of our time consumed by our actual lives, haha. Gotta afford rent somehow, right? That being said, we’re going to slowly be getting back into the swing of things, at least with our personal cosplays! We’ve transferred most of our social media activities to our Facebook page (@mrderbycosplay) if you want more frequent updates from us. That’s also where we’ll probably be posting the majority of our photoshoot availabilities and such as well once we get back into that. Not to say we won’t still post here from time to time, but it will be much more infrequently We’re also working on getting a website set up which we’ll be handling our booking through, as well as starting to offer a few other services :) We hope to see you over on facebook!
Making Some Changes

This weekend was Anime Boston, what is usually one of the more active events of the year for Murder by Cosplay. While we’ve lost most of our luster for the convention itself (We’re never that interested in panels, and the lines/security at AB last year were so bad it left a sour taste in my mouth) it’s been a meeting place for friends we don’t see otherwise, and we’ve always really loved the quality of the cosplayers and how friendly and easy to work with they were.
This year, however was different.
Of all the shoots we booked over the weekend, not a single person showed up. No emails telling us they wouldn’t be attending. No phone calls or texts. Nothing.
This isn’t just frustrating because of the fact that we wasted the time those slots filled waiting for someone to show up, it’s also very damaging to us. We rely on the income from these photoshoots to afford to go to these events. We were left at the end of this weekend with over $300 in lost income because the people that booked with us and promised their time and money for these shoots just decided to not show up. It was only due to the kindness of a few friends who pitched in and helped fill a few of the slots during the weekend that we didn’t go completely broke.
This makes me not want to offer photoshoots anymore. And that’s really sad to think about. There are so many people we’ve worked with before that have been so gracious and friendly. But this is the fourth con in a row where we’ve had slots that either cancelled last minute (less than ten minutes before their shoot) or were no-call no-show.
We want to be able to continue offering photoshoots to you all at the conventions we attend. But, we also want to ensure that this doesn’t happen again.Â
Therefore, from now on we will be changing our booking policy to include the following:
A 50% deposit will be required at the time of booking finalization (after we confirm that the slot(s) you requested is open and now placed under your name) - this is 50% of the cost of all your photoshoots combined.
This deposit will be refundable in full up to seven days before the convention. Past that point we will only offer a partial refund (up to 50% of the deposit)
Once there is 48Â hours or less before the convention, the deposit becomes non-refundable. No exceptions.
I didn’t want to have to ask for deposits because I know people need the time to save for a convention. But this is the only way that I can ensure that we’re not being taken advantage of. Convention photographers are people too. We deserve the same respect you would give any other professional service provider.

Emile here! It’s been FOREVER since we’ve uploaded any of the pics we’ve been taking at conventions and that’s totally my fault. I’ve been dying through my MFA program. But now that I’m on a short break for Thanksgiving (more like at the end of the break OTL )  I’m going to queue up the stuff we’ve done. Sorry again for the radio silence.  I’m so tired... (シ_ _)シ
