“You most certainly have overstepped your bounds, but that really does not mark you out as particularly unique - especially not among the students of Shiz. I am certainly unusual, I do not think that anyone would argue against that. No one in their right mind, at least.”
“Whether they are less worthy or otherwise is entirely subjective. I have simply learned to expect such a response, and find that I am never left disappointed.”
"It is a burden, to be different.” Oz is better than many homes in that respect; so long as your skin is thought of as a “natural” pigment, the exact shade will likely not worry anybody. Poor girl. Undone by her shade of skin. Helena can sympathize.
“You should join me for supper some time, Miss Elphaba.” Helena smiles but the expression doesn’t touch her eyes; she is too watchful, too alert. “I am sure you would find the experience...enlightening. And I would be glad for the chance to start anew with you.”
A soft sigh. He doesn’t need a partner. That’s what he keeps saying to anyone who’ll listen, even if it’s against regulation to go alone. And he’s never had a female partner, but if it’s going to become this passive aggressive shit, he’s asking for a transfer. “Why don’t we make the best of this, huh?”
Helena rolls her eyes back over and purses her lips; her gaze flicks up and down her partner and she shrugs, silently. It’s hard to feel alright with all this. She’s new to this force, perhaps, but she’s better at her job than to need some crotchety old officer who probably has a dead spouse and a drinking partner, cliche of a cop, looking over her shoulder all the time.
“As you will. Sir.”

life isn’t a fairytale, where the heroes are righteous and the villains are wicked, this is reality, and sometimes the would-be heroes betray us, and the devil lends a helping hand.“
