that’s so funny where’s always a discussion in tts fandom about Varian villain arc and him being putted in prison, through, honestly he was a terrorist and has reached the age of criminal responsibility (at my country at least), but what about 10yo Gideon Gleeful from gravity falls being putted in prison in 2012, through it should be his parents’ responsibility? Maybe I’m just inactive at gf fandom, and they talked it out

It is kinda funny to think about. There is validity in the criticism of putting a mentally unstable 14yr old boy in adult prison. He needed help not punishment. Which is what Fredrick promised and then failed to provide. Valid points that have all been discussed. However, I think you’re a 100% correct. There’s no way in hell that a 10yr should’ve ended up in adult prison. Juvenile probably, but gravity falls is a smaller town. They may not have had a place for juveniles. I’m not sure how prisons work. Lmao. But I think you’re a 100% correct in that his parents should’ve gotten more flack. Why in hell was Bud allowed to run for mayor when he was actively helping his son commit fraud, and enabled him in stealing from the Pines. I always kinda wondered that when watching the show. Why does anyone still trust Bud when he was the enabler? He probably should’ve gone to jail to. I’m fairly new to the Gravity Falls fandom but I haven’t seen this discussed either. I think it’s because Gravity Falls leans a bit more absurd than TTS. No really bats an eye about a 10yr old in adult prison with all the other stuff going on in gravity falls. Laws are never taken seriously in GF and we don’t expect them to. So it’s not really discussed. Plus Gideon I feel is usually sidelined in discussions and art for more ‘enjoyable’ characters. I think I’ve seen more art with Pacifica than Gideon despite their plot relevance being the opposite. Gideon just isn’t liked a whole lot. Characters that aren’t liked by the masses often get ignored. TTS has laws baked into the plot, we expect them to take it seriously. That’s why Varian’s treatment is taken more seriously, because the show takes itself more seriously. I hope you don’t mind the word vomit. I got the vibes you wanted to start a discussion about it, so here’s my thoughts!

Historical Fashion + VAT7K

INSPIRED: Not 100% historically accurate, not trying to be.

(Plus my takes on the group dynamic)

In Depth Analysis here because I’m a Nerd:

Varian- I didn’t stray too far because his design is dear to me. Plus it just didn’t feel like Varian the more accurate I went. I associate Corona with Germany because Rapunzel is a German name. So Germany and just kind of general European inspiration. I based all these on fashion drawings so there was a lot of mixing and matching. The bottom half is closest to the German inspiration. Though I gave the top half lots of embroidery because, German Embroidery. Ironically he may be my favorite character but I think I gave less thought into his design overall.

Hugo- He 100% stole that jacket. It’s his pride and joy, and the nicest thing he owns. He keeps it in great condition. The rest of his clothes are worn. They used to be nice, he stole those too, but a life on the street is going to naturally wear down clothes. I imagine he doesn’t actually know how to wear all the nice things he owns. That’s why things are untied. I debated giving him shorter hair for historical accuracy but I decided he wouldn’t gaf. I chose French inspiration just because I think it’s funny. Legitimately. French Hugo is just funny. Also I knew I wanted European inspiration. Though I’m open to other interpretations of his ethnicity. I could see him being Scandinavian.

Nuru- The Herero Tribe from Congo in Africa. This kind of style isn’t their traditional wear but it’s a reflection of colonization. When the Victorians came they forced the natives to dress like them. Now they use this style as a way to retake that history. Taking the Victorian style and adding their own patterns, colors, and that head wrap style. I thought this was fitting for Nuru. Her country is facing hardships from the sky. Yet she uses astronomy. Nuru also takes the hardships she faces and retakes it in a way she can use. And yes those are all real constellations and stars on her dress.

Yong- His clothes already had clear Chinese inspiration. Or at least a vague East Asian inspiration. I chose Chinese. Imma be honest here. It’s cause of the red and yellow, plus a fireworks kingdom? Yeah, that’s clearly Chinese inspiration. So not a big change. Longer hair for historical accuracy. Soot stains from explosions. Okay, maybe I put the least thought into Yong. Sorry. I’m open to constructive criticism.

Recently started rewatching The Owl House. Felt the urge to draw my boy. Made me realize my digital and my traditional works have two different art styles almost. Lol.

I realized I hadn’t touched this app in far too long so have this Red Queen fanart.

Real talk though, I love this woman. She’s so complex and interesting. Honestly any variation of the Red Queen or the Queen of hearts is my favorite. I recently read Heartless by Melissa Myers and it was such a good read. I love diving into the complex story of what makes someone evil. Whether it’s someone not owning up to the fault of the event that caused your pretty much every problem in your life afterwards. Or losing someone you loved dearly. Evil woman are just my life. I also just love the vibes of all Tim Burton’s movies.
