I saw someone say that they thought Andrew choking Kevin out was out of character but I think its very much in character. Like Andrew pulled a knife on Nicky for flirting with Neil. His cousin, the same cousin who he protected from getting beaten up. And that was for just flirting. Kevin knew who Neil really was, who his father was, what was going to happen and that Neil was most likely going to die. Of course Andrew reacted violently, it was obvious he fell in love with Neil and he goes to extremes for people he love. And even if you think that knife incident was just bc of the drugs, Andrew murdered his birth mother bc she was hitting Aaron. It was definitely in character

The thing with stuff like this is it’s like… we know, ok? You’re not making magicians - or their audiences - look stupid by showing how it’s done. We know it’s possible! We know it’s not actually magic! We enter a contract where we say “ok, I don’t know how that was done but it looked impossible and that is a fun thing to experience”. We don’t sit there watching a movie and going “that’s not impressive; it’s just special effects”. We let the special effects give us a moment of delight.

In fact, when you know a little bit about magic, you can even reach a stage where you enjoy it even more. Sometimes you see an effect and think “wow, that was a muscle pass; that takes years to practise”, and what makes it wonderful is not that it’s impossible but, which is much more impressive, it’s difficult. And sometimes you see an effect and think “ha, good old elastic band” and what makes it wonderful is that it’s so stupid and dumb and inelegant but it still produced something that looked inexplicable.

A magician isn’t trying to lie to you any more than a storyteller is. The joy of magic is the contract between the performer and the audience that this person will produce wonderful illusions, and that depends on your bringing your own sense of wonder to the show, and participating in the contract: sure, they’ve got a second lighter in their other hand, but the story they told was delightful! For a moment they made something impossible seem to happen! What a present to give someone!

Magic doesn’t have to be - shouldn’t be, even- magic. It just has to be magical.
