Nouvelle Vague - Too Drunk To Fuck
“Too Drunk To Fuck” by The Dead Kennedys (Words/Music: Jello Biafra, Album: non-album single, Cherry Red Records 1981)
So I encountered this track through Nouvelle Vague's cover, but perhaps the bassline is what brought me to the original Dead Kennedys version. Shall we lay them out side by side to compare? A drunken bar brawl - pure unadulterated, undiluted, untouched punk, or a French bossa nova scene and a slurring girl?
Reggae singer Cocoa Tea may have made it big in the 90s with hits "Riker Island" and "Young Lover", but perhaps 18 and Over deserves some publicity too. Anyone remember his record with Barington Levy, Corner Stone Presents Clash of the 80's?
Tristan und Isolde: Act I: Prelude | Richard Wagner (performed by Karl Böhm / Bayreuther Festspielorchester)
Brief History:
"Tristan und Isolde ... is an opera in three acts by Richard Wagner to a German libretto by the composer, based largely on the romance by Gottfried von Straßburg. The opera was profoundly influential among Western classical composers and provided inspiration to composers such as Gustav Mahler, Richard Strauss, Karol Szymanowski, Alban Berg and Arnold Schoenberg. Many see Tristan as the beginning of the move away from conventional harmony and tonality and consider that it lays the groundwork for the direction of classical music in the 20th century."
Perhaps the only way to decide for yourself is to give this score a listen.
