Ten years ago I started a journey at this exact same spot, with these exact same shoes. For a decade these shoes have seen me through everything, moving me in counts of eight, to the beat of a Bandoneon, as I danced my way through life. These shoes have seen me earn two degrees (and a half!), felt my heart soar with love, heard that same heart shatter with heartbreak, gotten me through recovery, and helped me find myself again without being defined by any single dancing partner. These shoes have seen and felt so much of me, that they have played an integral part in my becoming. I would not be who I am today without the journeys we have taken together. Today, they finally said "enough" and farewell, as they gave way, begging for newer shoes to take their place. New shoes will come, and I can only hope they will be as loyal, resilient, and faithful as these.
