Okay, so like, a big disclaimer: I have not seen this movie (but I have watched the song on YT multiple times). I watched them (Pulkit & Yami) in Sanam Re, and that was enough to make me decide I had no interest in watching their second go-around.
I mean, can you say taking "I gave you my heart" too literally?
It's like that meme, right? "You want her to take your heart; she literally has my heart. We're not the same."
Anyhow, I digress. This isn't about bashing Sanam Re.
No, this is about the absurdity of the above lyrics (don't get me wrong, I love this song - which I why I have it on relatively frequent repeat, and why I've heard it enough to talk about it here - and I actually love the lyrics for what they mean). But loving they lyrics doesn't change the absolute ridiculousness of it.
From what I can tell from the music video, she's at her own wedding (or engagement, or something along those lines - Bollywood/Indian weddings are crazy, and I can't really tell the difference between all the ceremonies) to some guy. And then her ex/lover/whatever gets up, and starts singing a song. Starting with lyrics that loosely translate to "I'm here at your doorstep and I'm not leaving; whether I live or die, it will happen here."
Like, you're literally out here saying "if you don't choose me, I'm going to die right here at your wedding." (I know, I know, this has been Bollywood hero mantra for decades - emotional blackmail is crazy strong amongst the "heroes" we root for.)
I mean, maybe she's not happy with this wedding (likely, given that it is Bollywood) and she doesn't want to go through with it - but still, someone threatening to die at her wedding if she doesn't pick him cannot exactly be expected to bring about a whole bunch of happiness and laughs.
So then when he's up there like "why are their tears in your eyes?," it's just like ... is he really that dense?
You! You're the reason there are tears in her eyes. Like, express your love, sure! There are good ways to do that, for sure - even at her wedding ceremony (see: Dil Chahta Hai). Threatening to end your life, or whatever you're threatening, in a song is NOT that good way.
Especially if your goal is "no tears of sadness." Because either she loves you, in which case she's going to be sad you're talking about ending your life, or she just wants to get married to this guy and be done with it, in which case she's going to be sad that the "happiest day" of her life is possibly going to be overshadowed by a lovelorn night-time singer dying at her wedding.
So, yes, the answer is you. Your emotional blackmail of a song, no matter how good of a song it actually is, is not going to get you out of this. It is entirely your fault. (Also, apparently 'junooniyat' translates to 'obsession,' so that just further proves that he's being crazy.)
And no, this doesn't make me want to go see the movie anymore, though I'm sure that after the 'heartbreak' (aka, insane absurdity of a stupid ending) that they had in Sanam Re, this movie will have a happier ending (for them, I mean; from the looks of it, I would still bored out of my mind).
