[Fan Creation Concept] Devil May Cry: Ottoman Odyssey (Working Title)
Today, I’m sharing a fan game story concept based on the idea: "What if Dante from Devil May Cry 4 time-traveled to the 16th-century Ottoman Empire?"
I imagined the unique chemistry that would arise when Dante, the icon of stylish action, meets the magnificent Islamic culture, along with various endings that branch out based on the player's choices.
1. Synopsis: The Red-Coated Stranger Lands in Istanbul
Dante (DMC4 era), the devil hunter, is spending another boring day. One day, he opens an antique incense burner received as payment for a job. Inside, a blue flame bursts out and transforms into a "Cat-like Fairy (Jinn)." Startled, the Jinn opens a dimensional portal to escape, and Dante gets sucked in along with it.
Dante opens his eyes in Istanbul, the capital of the 16th-century Ottoman Empire.
Upon arrival, he defeats a monster (Ghul) attacking the market. However, due to his immense power and appearance, the people misunderstand him as either a great warrior or a dangerous sorcerer. To return to his original world, Dante must find the runaway "Cat Jinn" while performing requests for the Empire.
2. Core System: Stranger's Reputation (Karma System)
The key feature of this imaginary game is that Dante's fate changes depending on how he interacts with Islamic culture, not just by defeating enemies.
Good Deed Points: Earned by helping people in need or observing cultural etiquette.
Prayer System: Praying at a Mosque yields significant points. However, the player must follow proper etiquette, such as performing "Wudu (ablution)," removing shoes, and un-equipping weapons to be recognized.
Reinterpretation of Terminology: Instead of the Western concept of "Demons," the game adds depth to the lore by introducing the Islamic concepts of fallen "Shaytan" and benevolent "Jinn."
3. 5 Endings Based on Player Choices
The ending changes depending on how the player guides Dante’s actions. (3 endings available in the 1st playthrough, 2 unlockable in the 2nd).
[Available in 1st Playthrough]
Ending 1. The Guardian in the Shadows (Neutral)
Dante does not get deeply involved in the culture and silently focuses only on his job (hunting). He is officially banished but remains as a nameless hero protecting the city at night.
Ending 2. The Tolerated Guest (Passive Respect)
Dante avoids friction with the people and shows a respectful attitude toward the culture. He is hired as an official mercenary of the Empire but lives under strict surveillance, missing his freedom.
Ending 4. King of the Underworld (Disrespectful Attitude)
Dante is banished for being rude to high-ranking officials. However, he joins forces with the underground world that needs his power, becoming the ruler of the dark side of the city.
[Unlocked in 2nd Playthrough - Extreme Choices]
Ending 3. The Sword of Allah (Active Conversion - True Ending)
Dante genuinely understands and accepts the teachings of Islam. He regards his power as a gift from God and rises to the rank of "Pasha," praised as the greatest foreign hero in history who protects the Empire.
Ending 5. The Untamable Beast (Arrogant)
"Only I can judge myself." Dante rejects all authority and customs. The entire Empire turns against him, but he becomes a transcendent entity that no one can touch due to his overwhelming power, living a solitary existence.
I wanted to explore the misunderstanding and harmony between two different cultures through the free-spirited character of Dante. I focused on adding historical imagination rather than provocative descriptions, with a heart that respects the beauty and mystery of Islamic culture.
If you were Dante, what choice would you make in the 16th-century Ottoman Empire?
Once again, please remember: This is just a fictional story created from my imagination!
