A/N: Hellooo tumblersss!!! Thought I'd share more of my writing since, well, I seem to be entering a new phase that I really like!!
I have been HEAVILY obsessed with lava lately and so I thought I could do a little somethin ;)
This fic is set after s11, aka the season where Kai and Cole become official in this context.
This is technically set in the lost flame au I got (check out the tags for more info) but it can read as a general fic since it doesn't adress any of the big lore of that au.

It has been a chill time at the monastery after the ninja defeated another big bad guy.
That was short lived when other random bad guys started popping up.
They weren't anything big, you can barely consider them threatening.
But damn were they EXHAUSTING!!
It's like they had no end, these guys kept coming all the time it was annoying. Like seriously, do they not have anything better to do?
The ninja took turns on who would take care of them. They would either play rock-paper-scissors, punish somebody to take care of them if they did something stupid. It became funny when there would be groans from whatever ninja was cursed to deal with them that time.
Lately though... it seems that has only been Kai.
Nobody was scared anything bad could happen to him while out. Well, except Cole of course, gotta always have that protective boyfriend™ mode on.
Which only led to Cole realizing that Kai has been taking turns on the guys every. single. time.
For 3 weeks.
Yeah, those bad guys? They would show up almost every day, but especially at night. Any ninja who got put in charge of them can consider their beautiful sleep ruined.
So Cole got concerned when Kai took it every single time.
Sometimes he'd fake it, sometimes he'll be genuine about wanting to go out.
Cole couldn't really put his mind on why Kai would do that though.
Something was definitely on the fire ninja's mind. But every time Cole would try to get something out of him, it never gets out. Cole knew not to push him though, but it was concerning nonetheless.
Kai needs a break. And Cole might have an idea on how to fix that...
Jay: A movie night?
Cole: Yeah, why not? It's been a while since we had one!
Lloyd (suspicious): I feel like there's more that you are not telling us...
Jay (also suspicious): Yeahh... It's usually me or Lloyd who ask for movie nights.
Lloyd (To Cole): You basically never ask.
Jay: Probably cuz you always fall asleep towards the end of the movie.
Cole: Alright, alright, I get it!
Both Lloyd and Jay just stare at Cole waiting for the explanation.
Cole: *Sigh* Look. You guys know Kai has basically been taking all the bad guy reports lately right?
Jay&Lloyd: ...Yeah?
Cole: I'm just... concerned about how it's affecting Kai. He always puts on that cool guy persona like he isn't losing sleep because of this.
Jay: To be honest, I was happy Kai was taking all the bad guy missions cuz we stopped debating about it. But now that you mention it... yeah it is concerning.
Lloyd: I guess we were all just happy to not fight over it anymore. I'm sorry we haven't noticed.
Jay: Yeah, me too.
Cole: No need to apologize, you couldn't have known. And no buts Lloyd, Kai knows how to fake a smile on everyone, including his close ones.
There was a pause before Jay broke the ice.
Jay: Soooo we doing a movie night because...???
Cole: Because I know that once he is in a comfortable spot, he'll have an easier time actually getting some rest. The whole team would be there, so he won't feel alone, and we can pick some chill movie, nothing too action wise cuz those are his type.
Jay: Noted. I think I already have the perfect movie.
Cole: Good.
Lloyd: But what do we do if we get an alarm again? Kai's gonna jump at the opportunity to do it and SOMEBODY has to take care of them.
Cole: Hmmm...
Jay: Oh! I know!! We can just have Pixal deal with them in that case. Her and Nya have been upgrading the Samurai X suit and it would be good for trying it out.
Lloyd: That's excellent Jay!!
Cole: You're the best!
Jay: Heh, I know! ✨
Cole: You guys tell the others and get the living room ready. I'll go get Kai.
Lloyd: Alright.
Jay: Aye aye, mister awesome boyfriend!
Cole: Pff shut it Jay!
The earth master made his way around the monastery looking for Kai. He wasn't in his room, the kitchen, the cave, and definitely not the living room.
Turns out he was outside training.
Cole made a worried look seeing his already tired firefly working out his body more. It's like you could see the flickering light becoming less and less frequent, trying its best to keep itself up.
Cole: Hey firefly!
Kai: Huh? Oh, hi pebble! What up?
Cole: Coming to check on you. Don't you think you need a break? Not that I don't enjoy seeing you sweat and work out, but it would be nice if you kept it down for a bit.
Kai (blushing): Heh, sure you do, and no, I'm fine. Gotta keep up the good work for when those guys show up again.
Cole: You know somebody else can take 'em right?
Kai: Nonsense! I'm the best ninja to deal with them! They are very easy to defeat and it will surely make up for the times I couldn't help you cuz I didn't have my powers!!
.... What.
Cole: ...
Kai (noticing Cole's face and realizing what he let out): I-I MEAN YOU KNOW AND PROTECTING THE CITY AND STUFF!!! Would you look at the time, I think I should go take a shower after all that training hahaa!!!
Well, at least he stopped training.
Cole: Uh, right, by the way! The team is hosting a movie night tonight!
Kai: Really? Haven't had those in a good while.
Cole: Yeah uhm ... I'll see you there, yeah?
Kai: Y-yeah..
Cole comes closer and gives Kai a cheek kiss.
Cole: Make sure you wear something comfortable firefly.
Kai (blushing again): Heh, okay I will.
~~~MOVIE NIGHT TIME~~~
The whole team (-Kai obvi) was updated on the plan and ready for action. Jay and Lloyd made sure to pick a selection of movies to keep everyone busy and to ensure Kai will fall asleep at some point. Nya took care of the alarm system so that it doesn't ring around the monastery and disturbes Kai's attempt at resting. Zane prepared some snacks, including Kai's favourite, and arranged the couch for the fire and earth elementals to stay on, meanwhile the others had an arm chair and blankets and pillows all over the place.
Cole: Wow... You guys are amazing! Thank you.
Nya: Hey, anything to get my stupid brother to get the sleep he deserves.
Zane: I made sure to guarantee 97.6% comfort level! <3
Jay: And me and Lloyd picked the most non action movies we could think of!!
Lloyd: *thumbs up*
Cole: *soft smiles*
A sudden creak could be heard coming from the hall of the monastery.
Cole (whispering): He's coming!
Jay (whisper shouting): Quick!! Everybody in position!!!
Kai got into the living room, wearing one of Cole's hoodies and sweatpants. Since he just took a shower, that meant his hair was fully down and ungelled, which only made Cole smile. Kai could then see Jay and Nya already snuggling into each other on the floor, covered in pillows and blankets, Lloyd was sitting across the arms of the arm chair, Zane was standing just above him, and Cole was on the couch, waiting for his flickering firefly to join him.
Jay: Took you long enough Kai! C'mon, I wanna start the movie!!
Unbothered by the lightning master's comment, Kai then turned his head back to his boyfriend, who was making a hand gesture to come sit with him on the couch.
With such a soft smile Kai could drown in.
The fire master made himself comfortable, Cole bringing a blanket over both of them and them touching shoulders.
Cole wasn't bothered, as he knew the fire ninja was still in some form of fight mode and ready to jump if he heard the alarm. Jokes on him, he'll be leaning on Cole in no time.
Just like Jay said, Cole was about to fall asleep towards the end of the first movie, but he snapped back to reality when he felt Kai's head finally leaning on his shoulder.
Yes, everything was going according to plan.
Cole: Look who decided to finally relax.
Kai: Oh please, I just couldn't resist the chance to cuddle with my boyfriend!
Cole (putting a hand over Kai's shoulders): Heh, yeah you couldn't, firefly.
When the first movie ended, Kai took out his phone while Jay was preparing the next one and saw a news report on how Samurai X stopped another group of evil goons in Ninjago City.
Kai (jumping out of his embrace with Cole): Wait WHAT??
Everybody turned to Kai confused.
Kai: Why wasn't there an alarm to warn the monastery of an attack??
Everybody gave each other weird looks until Nya decided to speak up the truth.
Nya: Because it's movie night and YOU need to relax!
Lloyd: Yeahh, we noticed you've been taking all the bad guy reports lately and thought you could use a break.
Zane: Besides, I can assure you Pixal has all capabilities to defeat a couple of unthreatening villains. ^^
Jay: Yeah, so just chillax and enjoy the night bro!
Kai: I-
Jay (making a mocking hand gesture for Kai to shut up): Abababap!! No! We are gonna have an amazing movie night, WITH YOU in it.
Kai: ...
The second movie was turned on as Kai went back to his spot leaning onto Cole, with a big pout on his face like he witnessed the greatest betrayal.
Kai (whispering to Cole): You planned all this didn't you?
Cole (whispering back): More or less. It was a team effort.
Kai (with a petty smile): *Scoff* I can't believe you...
Cole: And I can't believe you are still thinking of overworking yourself! I noticed you taking in all the missions recently and you NEEDED a break. This was the only way I thought I could get you to rest without you fighting over it.
Kai: But I'm supposed to help. (Cole: !!!) I'm supposed to stop bad guys no matter how difficult because I need to make up for how useless I was when my powers were gone.
Cole only squeezed his hand around his firefly tighter and gave him forehead kisses.
Cole (cupping his free hand around Kai's face to make the firefly look at him, speaking softly): Hey, now you know we don't resent you for not having your powers firefly. We were all at fault you lost them in the first place. And we all know you will help us no matter what, but you need to stop overworking yourself. *Takes Kai's hand and interlocks their fingers* I love you for your undeniable want to help others, for your selflessness, but sometimes you gotta learn to let yourself relax too.
Kai was SO on the verge of crying when he heard those words. Dear FSM, he did it again!! His wonderful, amazing, awesome boyfriend told him exactly what he needed to hear to calm his worries!! How does he do it every time? It's like a miracle! COLE IS A MIRACLE!!!
Kai: I-... Thanks a lot pebble. I needed that.
Cole: Of course firefly. What you also need right now is rest, so don't worry about anything else yeah?
Kai: Okay... Yeah.
The earth master could feel some of the tension from Kai disappear as the fire master cuddled himself into Cole more. By the half of the second movie, Kai basically cuddled into Cole's lap, his head resting on the black ninja's chest where he could hear the calming heartbeat he loves.
As a little extra touch, Cole started ruffling his hand softly through Kai's hair to help the tension completely fade away as he finally started closing his eyes. His firefly's hair was so soft Cole wished he would stop gelling it, but then he wouldn't get to see that spiky fire hair he also loves. A difficult choice, truly.
Nya took one peek back at the lava lovebirds on the couch and smiled.
Jay noticed.
Jay (whispering): So? How is he?
Nya (also whispering): Heh, he's basically crawled into Cole like a monkey and drifting to sleep.
Jay: Yesss!! Mission accomplished!!
Jay and Nya share a silent high five, then the water ninja made sure to also snuggle in with her yin for the rest of the movie.
When it was finally done, Kai was fast asleep in Cole's lap, Lloyd was fighting the urge to fall asleep as well, Jay and Nya basically making their own bed there at this point, and Zane is just fine cuz nindroid perks.
Zane: I think it's time we all head into our designated rooms.
Lloyd: *Yaaawwwnn* Good idea. *Starts heading out with his pillow and blankets* 'Night everyone!
Jay: 'Night!
Nya: *Yawwnn* G'night!...
Jay (cheeks red): Hehe, come here you.
Jay then picks up his yang and heads to their shared bedroom.
Zane also leaves the scene, the only ones left in the room being the lava lovebirds.
It felt so hard for Cole to have to disturb Kai's rest by having to carry him to his room. Despite being tired, the guy was pretty much a light sleeper.
His firefly looked so peaceful, its light finally turning off to let itself catch a break from always trying to stay open. Tomorrow he is definitely gonna be shining again, maybe not as bright because it will take time for it to catch up on that lost sleep but it's a great start nonetheless.
Cole was feeling stiff though so it was time to make that sacrifice.
He picked up his firefly bridal style. He could feel it shifting in his arms as it processed it was getting picked up and taken to Cole's room.
The earth ninja lets Kai down on the mattress as he goes to change into his proper pijamas. As soon as he finished, he could hear his firefly flickering a little bit as it woke up sheepishly.
Kai (sleepy as fuck): Mmgnn.... Cole?...
Cole (leaning down to talk to him): Hey firefly. Everything's fine, you're in my room. I'll be joining you soon okay?
Kai: Your room? *Yaawn* Shouldn't I be in mine..?
Cole: I thought you'd sleep better with someone by your side. Plus, can't I sleep with my firefly?
Kai: Mmmgn, you've been calling me that all day!... Not that I don't love it but you've been doing it more than usual.
Cole (blushing): Heh, so what? You are my firefly. You shine so brightly, but sometimes you forget to let that light dim and rest. You are also as adorable as a firefly.
Kai (also blushing and smiling): Heh.
Cole: I'll come in a minute, yeah?
Kai: Mmn yeah...
Just like Cole said, he came to join his firefly in the bed, letting it find its way to snuggle into the earth master once more. Kai went back to sleep listening to his pebble's heartbeat, and Cole repeated the motion of massaging his firefly's hair.
Soon, they both drifted into a peaceful slumber.
✨BONUS ✨
Kai slowly opens his eyes to an awake Cole, scrolling through his phone. The fire ninja was currently having an arm across Cole's chest where his head also was, and Cole's arm wrapped around him tightly.
Kai: *Yaawwwnnn*
Cole: Heh, good morning firefly. *Kisses him on the forehead*
Kai: Mmm g'mornin. What time is it?
Cole: 10 am.
Kai (jumping up a little): 10 AM!??
Cole: Hey, now, no need to worry. I told the others you are taking a day off to catch up on all the rest you lost from fighting bad guys for 3 weeks straight. *Kisses him on the forehead again* And I'm here to make sure you get that rest.
Kai could not believe it.
Kai: Wow I... I don't know what to say.
Cole: Don't mention it. *Yet another kiss* Anything to keep my firefly from dying out too quickly.
Kai (blushing): .... I love you.
Cole: I love you too.

Not a lot to say here. It's clear they'll be off doing their thing, both of them SOMEHOW having been brought back

2: Kai and Nya's fight / Kai's sacrifice
Kai and Nya clearly have their work cut out for them. It seems they will be fighting with their mechs some enemies of a whole 'nother level ("We are not fighting demons or monsters anymore"-Nya)
The main thing we of course gotta talk about is Kai's sacrifice. I heard duskfall is technically a different timeline, so this might not be our og Kai and Nya but I am not sure about that.
Anyway, Nya's line I think pretty much says everything this sacrifice is gonna be:
"Kai, if you make it out of this. Promise me you'll walk away."
Pretty sure Kai is gonna have to make a risky move, one where he has low chances of surviving, if he doesn't get out of whatever he has to set out, in time, he'll die. Kai being Kai, he is not gonna walk away from that, and Nya knows that he is a self sacrificial guy. She knows he is gonna die and so she gets him to promise that. But I don't think he will.
I think he will go through with it no matter what, and Nya knowing he is not gonna make it, is gonna join him so that at least he doesn't have to do it alone. That's how they are both gonna die saving Ninjago.
Kai also says this thing: "Protect the elementals". Not sure what that can be, but maybe he's talking about the kids that have already inherited their powers atp.
Am I ready for Kai to die in duskfall despite knowing that fact for a good while? NO
I am still tearing up and I am gonna cry like crazy when they BOTH die
3: Nate's battle with the oni
Nate seems to be following in Cole's footsteps pretty well already (besides the fact the resemblance is also very clear). He is off on his own separate journey, probably an important one to the plot later on (like Cole's journey with Wu's ghost and the screaming earth from dr).
Now here's an interesting thing:
The hammer has Cole's initial on it.
I have two ideas: either the hammer was passed down to him and the oni just stole it in the battle OR
Nate went on a journey to get Cole's hammer from the oni that had it. Which I think would be very interesting :3
Those are my simple thoughts from the trailer so far, make sure to let me know yours!!!

-live reading of a story inbetween s4p1 and s4p2 about the ninja getting fanmail (specifically with Kai, Lloyd, Arin, Sora, Wyldfyre)
-new 2027 set reveal of Lloyd and Ras spinner set
-dragons rising will have 5 seasons, the 5th season being called Dragons Fury
-we got a sneak peak into s5 of the crossroads being destroyed and black silhouettes showing up that might be the ninja going evil ("Save you? We don't do that anymore.")
-Duskfall trailer mainly focusing on Kai and Nya's death +Nate design revealed
-Duskfall will come out in september
Bonuses:
-The voice actors got to talk about being on the show, Vincent especially talking about Kirby Morrow
-The people at the panel got to talk about Lloyd's journey and character and how impactful it is
-The scene they acted revealed Kai sending love letters to Skylor and Misako has tried to invite Lloyd to tea but he's always been too busy

I will do an analysis of both trailers when they will be posted on youtube but after that I will watch the full s4p2.
Spoilers are inevitable, I have sadly been spoiled no matter how much I try to avoid them. My account will remain spoiler free until september 3rd (aka when it will officially release).
I am very sad that this panel was gonna be so much more exciting for other fans if the episodes didn't get leaked, I at least tried to not watch it so I can actually enjoy the panel, but when I get back from the trip I am on currently I will watch the season.
I will still watch the episodes when they will come out on netflix still because I wanna help contribute to its success on the proper day (plus rewatching it will be fun for sure)
This panel was awesome, especially if you haven't seen the leaked episodes, the team had a bunch of cool stuff to show us and I cannot wait for more!!!
