annie james campbell — born on january 13th 1977 in brooklyn, new york — in her early coming up years had always been a wallflower. going most of elementary and middle school without many friends at all, only a close few. even though with little, she still enjoyed her life back then and remained relatively happy. straight A's, loving and strong relationship with her parents, friends who cared, steady routine, there wasn't anything to complain about.
pre crash.
everything she grew used to all came to a screeching halt, when her whole family had to move to wiskayok, new jersey in the middle of her sophomore year because of her mother's new job. adjusting to the slower lifestyle compared to the city was a hard change, and starting in a new high school was even harder.
people already had their cliques, making it almost impossible to talk to anyone or even try to fit in. she was no stranger to being an outsider, of course, but something about it here felt so much different. she'd start to hear snide whispers in the hallways about her being the only transfer student. all of them ranging from her body to rumors about why she transferred — i mean, look at her. did she look like she could get into a fight? — causing her to quickly develop a really bad form of anxiety and paranoia.
to add salt on the wound — her mother and father's relationship acutely took a decline due to her father having affair, causing them to go through an incredibly messy and argument filled divorce. both of them started to become withdrawn from annie to the point where they mainly weren't paying attention to her besides the bare minimum.

annie bled all of her feelings out onto the dusty journal her grandmother got her for her birthday a while back. it became her lifeline, the only way she could get the whirlwind of self deprecating thoughts and anger out of her brain. eventually by her junior year, she'd fill out multiple.
during her junior year was where she'd meet natalie scatorccio in the back of her trigonometry class, where passing stupid notes had bloomed into one of her only real friendships at wiskayok high school. they both brought each other clarity, a light at the end of both of their incredibly dim tunnels and eventually turning into a pair of girls with an inseparable bond — almost soulmate-like. after while they would begin to start dating privately.
and it was also natalie's bright idea to have her join the varsity soccer team, completely ignoring annie's abundant protests and signing her up anyways. nat insisted it was a good idea to try and get her to meet new people, thinking it'd be easy since she was already well acquainted with all of them. although this would only ultimately fuel annie's anxiety even more.
now she felt like an outcast both in school and a sports team on a sport she barely even understood, causing her anxiety to spike up rapidly & often ending in frequent panic attacks.
annie was essentially a bench warmer — striker, when she wasn't — however she still somehow managed to perform okay enough whenever she was subbed in during games. most of the yellowjacket's girls viewed her obviously as the weakest link amongst all of them, many not really liking her at all in the first place. the only one ever closest being jackie. who, alongside nat, gave her the benefit of the doubt.

wilderness.
the crash spiraled annie into a worse state of mind, the sense of uselessness grew even stronger as they were all stranded for much longer than they were anticipated to be. everyone had a purpose. misty was their medic, nat was their hunter (which annie couldn't even help alongside with, due to her shaking when the rifle was in her hands), and she was as useless as a mouse. her journal became filled with desperate pleas to be saved — to be given worth.
eating jackie's remains only caused her brain to deteriorate even more. she started hearing things she swore she never heard before, whispers in her head calling out to her like a siren. telling her she was next, how they were all waiting for her to fuck up so they could eat her too. with her anxiety at an all time high combined with the mass hysteria, it caused her to essentially go mute like only speaking when it was really necessary or if someone was talking to her.
that is until the first hunt.
watching natalie pull that queen card strikes something deep withing her. she regained her voice to speak up against how dumb it was, how she wouldn't dare let them take natalie as a sacrifice — begged them to take her instead.
it sparked a large argument, ending up in the girls deciding to take annie instead. but of course, not on nat's watch. she caused a distraction allowing annie to run. due to her size (and unathleticism), she was eventually caught.
annie james campbell died febuary 1997 at the hands of misty quigely. she was ate by the group promptly after.
