Cage put out a single with Beck, their new tourmate. I read that this happened and I got veryy excited, but tbh I was disappointed. I wanted it to be more complex and rough around the edges. I also think that neither beck nor Shaun sound their best and lyrically its kind of boring. I have only listened to it a couple of times, maybe it’ll grow on me.

While I’m on the subject of Cage the Elephant, I do want to highlight the 2017 unpeeled album. It’s a really impressive and comprehensive collection of their songs stripped down but still very much energized and punchy!! I also loved Tell Me I’m Pretty (2015) so I am still welcoming their forthcoming LP with optimism.

This is my #album of the week

I havent been listening to it that much this week but it really hit the spot tonight. I’d say ever since I really found Bahamas last March I have had a very strong connection to his music. I saw him live at a small show in fort lauderdale and he is just no frills, straight up, vulnerable, talented, humble and just amazing. It’s refreshing and a bit gut wrenching for me at the same time.

Here is the new modest mouse single! It’s a pretty logical extension - quintessential modern MM. I like it as much as most of the tracks from the last album. It’s how I feel about MM in general- solid like but not ~love~

Andrew bird’s song Sisyphus (single now released on the full album) immediately strikes me as resembling Father John Misty. I’m not the only one to notice this, a little google search landed me on a reddit comment thread detailing the same connection. It makes a lot of sense...while they are very different artists they have a similar uniquely unapologetic trademark. FJMs latest record definitely matches up soundwise. I would love love love a collab between these artists and I think now is clearly the best time in their musical minds & careers!

my #albumoftheweek for the 3/18/19 week!

I love listening to and sharing music, so I decided I will choose an album of the week moving forward. I discovered this album 2 days ago, 3 days after it was released…sort of on accident. Turn the Light came on a radio playlist on spotify for me and I was only half-listening. Part way through, I realized ‘man, this girl has got it’ and just about 3 seconds later I recognized that it was Karen O. Tracing it back to a brand new album with Danger mouse was such a treat. I have been listening to it on repeat since Monday <3
