She’s American (Alexia Putellas x Heath!Reader)
“How many times have I told you?” Tobin snapped as you sat on the sofa with a smug look on your face.
“Babe, relax. She doesn’t mean it” Christen tried sticking up for you, but even she knew it was hopeless and that she was lying. She was currently holding back Tobin by the shoulders to make sure she couldn’t get near you, because she was fit to kill.
You meant it. God, you meant it with every fibre of your being.
You were a complete and utter dickhead. You loved yourself, but of course, how could you not? You were attractive, a gifted footballer, smart and your body was to die for. So, of course you were a little bit cocky. But you had the right to be. You’d worked hard to get yourself where you were.
It wasn’t just you that loved you, but practically any girl that had ever met you fell for you instantly. A lot of the women you’d slept with had been footballers, and that’s how you had wound up here, currently being screamed at by your older sister.
“I told you my friends were off limits” Tobin growled.
“That just made it so much more fun, though” you smirked.
“You little shit” she lunged towards you only to be pulled backwards by her girlfriend once again.
“Look, I love you guys and I get you’ve been together for years and don’t understand. But I don’t want that, I want to be free to live my life without a girl holding me back” you shrugged.
“If you want to sleep around, be my guest. But just not my fucking friends” Tobin shouted.
“I had to. I probably won’t get another chance to until I’m home” you replied nonchalantly, as if you hadn’t just admitted a huge secret you had been keeping to yourself for months.
“What do you mean?” Christen asked as she pushed an angry Tobin onto the couch to try and get her to cool down.
“I got a contract offer in Spain. You guys loved Europe when you went and I want to do that too” you nodded.
“Which club?” Tobin frowned.
“Barcelona” you replied.
“You can’t fuck around over there Y/n, they are close knit” Tobin grunted.
“The more the merrier” you smirked.
“That’s it” Tobin shot up from her seat, with Christen having to pull her back away from you yet again.
“I’ll miss you Christen” you smiled. “Why can’t you be more like Christen?” You asked your sister as you patted her on the face and headed up to your room.
“God bless the women of Barcelona” Tobin groaned.
Y/n Heath, younger sister of the famous Tobin Heath, has signed a multi-year contract with FC Barcelona for the upcoming 2023/24 season
-
Life in Barcelona was beautiful. The sun was always shining, and the girls, fuck. The girls were all so beautiful. You were a huge name in the game, not only being the younger sister of Tobin Heath, but you were a World Cup champion too. So when your transfer was announced, social media went kind of feral.
You hadn’t met the vast majority of the team yet, but were linking up with them in a few days at training. Until then, you made up your time getting settled into your new place and laying low.
That was until your sister called Leah Williamson, who then called Keira Walsh and that is how you became instant best friends with Lucy Bronze. Your sister knew Lucy a little bit, and knew the two of you would get on like a house on fire. You were similar, both attractive and cocky and two of the very few on the team that could speak fluent English.
You’d been partying in Barcelona with the English girl since you’d met each other. She’d shown you different night clubs and bars and that is how you’d been making your way through the entire female population of Barcelona. Lucy was purely your wingwoman because she was in a relationship with Ona, who you had yet to meet. But tomorrow was the day you would be meeting everyone, so you decided to leave the club with a beautiful Spanish girl before you got too tipsy.
-
Lucy picked you up at your apartment, deciding to bring you to training on the first day. You’d only been to the training complex once to sign contracts, so you had absolutely no idea where you were going.
“Me llamo Lisa” the blonde girl you’d picked up last night shouted at you, leaving your apartment.
“Baby girl, no hablo español” you smirked as the girl stormed off. “Adios” you called after her as she continued stomping down the street.
“Get in the car” Lucy laughed as you grabbed your gear bag and locked your apartment building door. “Did you and Lisa have fun?” She teased.
“We did, until she asked for my number and then started screaming at me in Spanish when I said I didn’t have a phone” you shrugged with a cocky laugh.
“She was fit though, no?” Lucy asked, peering back through the mirror, looking at the girl who was almost fully up the street.
“Yeah, she was. But there’s more girls who can give me the exact same thing who are just as hot” you smirked.
“Oh, the team are going to hate you so bad” Lucy laughed and began driving. While most people would have taken that as an insult, you found it amusing. You liked how it got on people’s nerves that you would sleep around. It was just too much fun, girls were just too hot.
You arrived at the training facilities, leaving your bag by your cubby which just so happened to be right beside Lucy, who had deemed you as her new best friend. Lucy brought you into the canteen and was showing you the view of the training pitch outside.
“She has a bad reputation” Mapi laughed as you stood at the window with Lucy. She was pointing out different things on the pitch and around the grounds. You were too busy soaking in your new surroundings to pay attention to the chatter from the tables around you.
“Lucia said she is nice, they are friends” Ona shrugged as she continued eating.
“Who are we talking about?” Ingrid asked, sitting down next to her girlfriend.
“The playboy has arrived” Mapi whispered with a laugh with a few others at the table joining in. The laughing from the table caught Lucy’s attention and she gestured you over to the players sitting at the table.
“Guys, this is Y/n. Y/n this is my girlfriend Ona, that’s Mapi and Ingrid. Down there is Aitana, Keira and Patri” Lucy smiled.
“Hola” Mapi said but you completely ignored her.
“Hi Ona, lovely to meet you” you smiled. Lucy had been a good friend so you decided to play nice with Ona. “And you, you were Ingrid, right?” You turned to face the Norwegian girl. Mapi was tiny in comparison to you that you hardly took notice of her.
“Yes, it’s nice to meet you” Ingrid smiled, putting her hand out for you to take.
“The pleasure is all mine” you smirked, shaking her hand. Ingrid let herself have a moment when your hand connected with hers, but she was quickly pulled back to reality by Mapi.
“I am her girlfriend, hello, hi, Ingrid, remember me?” Mapi waved her hands in her girlfriend’s face.
“You’re so embarrassing” Ingrid groaned.
“You are dating her?” You asked Ingrid who nodded. “Hm, interesting” you nodded before walking off to meet the other three at the table.
“I don’t like her” Mapi huffed.
“I do” Ingrid smiled towards you.
“Of course you do, she is so your type” Mapi rolled her eyes before getting up from the table and going toward the gym. “Estúpida” Mapi grunted under her breath on the way into the gym.
“María? What’s wrong?” Alexia asked.
“Ale, I am going to murder her” Mapi shouted.
“Silenco” Alexia shot up from the bench to quieten the girl down. “Ingrid?” Alexia asked.
“Her too” Mapi moaned. “No, Y/n. The American” Mapi rolled her eyes. “She was flirting with Ingrid” Mapi was sitting on a bench with her arms folded.
“Oh, come on Maria, Ingrid loves you. She’s not going to be bothered by a bit of flirting” Alexia smiled sympathetically.
“Yeah, you’re right. I’m being stupid” Mapi smiled and stood up with a new found confidence in her step, until you walked in with Lucy.
“And this is the gym. Oh, this is Alexia and well, you’ve already met Mapi” Lucy smirked, knowing already what you were thinking.
“Oh yes, the one that’s dating Ingrid” you nodded, air quoting the word dating while continuing to look at the equipment as Mapi left the room in a huff.
“Lucia, out” Alexia ordered. Lucy quickly followed her captain’s instructions and left the gym. “Hola” Alexia folded her arms and held herself in a reserved position standing in front of you.
“Hola” you smirked, turning to meet her eyeline. You knew of her of course. She was the best in the world. You’d seen her at awards shows and on TV, but neither of you had ever even made eye contact.
“You are not going to cause any trouble here, are you?” She raised an eyebrow at you.
“No ma’am” you replied.
“We do not mess around with people here, is that understood?” She asked.
“Is that limited to just the team, or the entire female population of Barcelona?” You replied. “Because that may be a problem” you added with a smirk.
“Careful” she pursed her lips at you before heading out of the gym as Lucy strutted back in. Your eyes were firmly glued to Alexia on her walk out.
“Don’t even think about it” Lucy laughed, catching your eyeline, watching the Spanish captain leave the gym.
“It would be so much fun though” you whined sarcastically.
“No, she’s off limits” Lucy shook her head.
“That just makes me want it more” you groaned.
“Are you a child?” Lucy laughed, putting her hand on your shoulder. “Mate, just trust me”. You nodded at the English girl before she tugged you out of the gym and continued on your tour of the complex.
-
You were a professional of course, but you were also a maniac when it came to nights out. So, when the conversation came up for a team night out, you were on board. Hell, you were on the planning committee.
The team frequented a night club that had a nice divide of privacy to chat and a dance floor that was always put to good use. On your nights out with Lucy, she hadn’t brought to this club yet, and you instantly cursed her for it, because the hottest women that walked the face of the earth all seemed to be here tonight.
Team nights at Barcelona were nice, they had a sort of family vibe of going out and getting drunk together and just enjoying each other’s company. But going out for you was a challenge, and that challenge was how many girls could you end up with?
You’d already kissed two girls tonight but were frustrated when both of their friend groups decided to move out of the night club and off to a different one.
“Anybody want a drink?” You asked the group as some people nodded at you. You had literally just made it to the bar before another, hotter than the other two, whose names were long forgotten by now, girl was already flirting with you. “Can I get you a drink?” You asked as she nodded and giggled. You’d forgotten to order everybody’s else’s drinks but that didn’t matter right now.
“What’s your name?” She asked as you handed her the drink after a quick thank you.
“Y/n, you?” You shouted over the music.
“Sara” she replied. “Do you want to dance?” She asked. You nodded your head while she took your hand and led you to the dance floor.
“I guess we’re not getting drinks then” Lucy laughed. “I promise to come back with some” she got up and headed to the bar to finish the job you had started.
“I don’t get the attraction to her” Mapi scowled.
“I do” Ingrid added with a smirk.
“Princessa por favor, my ego cannot take this right now” Mapi groaned, making a few girls laugh. “Ale, do you get it?” Mapi asked.
“Sí, but her attitude is not for me” Alexia shrugged. Lucy brought back the drinks for the table after you’d agreed to take Sara home. You ran up to the booth the team were in to grab your jacket. “Heading off so soon?” Alexia asked, sipping from her drink.
“Don’t be too jealous” you smirked, taking your coat from the chair and turning, thinking you had the last laugh, until Alexia grabbed your arm to stop you.
“This isn’t how we do things here, and until you learn that, you’ll never fit in” she whispered and shoved your arm away from her grasp. You looked at her for a brief moment before shaking your head and turning off with an angry expression, back to where Sara was waiting for you. “I’m going home” Alexia huffed, standing up and brushing by her teammates who were protesting and calling her back. But to no avail, she was gone.
-
You woke the next morning with Sara in your apartment and groaned at the fact that she was still here.
“Good morning” Sara smiled.
“Yeah, good morning” you nodded.
“Last night was really nice” she hummed, stroking her fingertips along your arm.
“Yeah, listen-” you began as you felt her hand pull away.
“You fucking footballers are all the same” she huffed, getting out of bed. She was now putting back on her clothes and cursing at you in Spanish, which you’d actually started to understand, due to many, many girls giving you somewhat of the same speech since you’d moved to Barcelona. She slammed the front door of your apartment as she left, leaving you to just groan and turn over to check your phone.
Lucia 🥉
Morning mate, how’s the head? 😂
Y/n 🇺🇸
Badddddddddd
I didn’t need a yelling match in my apartment this morning either 😂
Hot Spanish girls will be the death of me
Lucia 🥉
Want to come for breakfast with me and Ona?
Can collect you in like half an hour?
Y/n 🇺🇸
Yeah okay go on then see you soon
It was exactly half an hour later when Lucy picked you up, Ona was sat in the passenger seat as you flopped into the back.
“Hola” Ona smiled.
“Hola Ona, how are you?” You smiled back.
“Good, and you?” She asked.
“Tired” you chuckled. Ona liked you, and saw a side to you that most people didn’t see.
Despite the lack of care you had for the endless stream of girls you’d slept with, you had one code you lived by, and that was the Bro Code. You and Lucy were friends, so Ona was off limits and was just your friend too. There was never an awkwardness or a dull moment when the three of you hung out. Ona liked the side of Lucy you brought out too.
Lucy went up to order at the counter while you and Ona sat opposite each other in the booth. Your head was in your hands, still nursing the hangover you had.
“You should be yourself more” Ona whispered to you.
“What do you mean?” You asked, removing your hands slowly from your head to look at the Spanish girl.
“You are nice, you are a good friend to Lucia” Ona began. “Most of the team find you insufferable” she informed you as you just shrugged your shoulders. You were used to that with your team mates, even if you hadn’t actually slept with any of these ones. “You should try harder. Most of us are on long term contracts here and life will be easier if we all just got on” Ona smiled as you nodded.
-
Over the next while, you took Ona’s advice and you tried. You tried to get along with them all better, and things were improving in training and on the pitch, as well as bonding events. You and Alexia had been getting on well. She appreciated you were trying to respect the values that most girls on the team had. It was just at the next team night out, when you saw a girl speaking to Alexia, that you felt your stomach curl.
“I’m gonna head home” you shouted in Lucy’s ear. She was fairly drunk at this stage, just dancing with Ona and some of the team as she gave you a thumbs up. You were sober enough tonight, you’d mainly stayed up at the booth, away from the dance floor, just observing what was going on.
“Where are you going?” A voice asked from behind you, and you knew instantly who it belonged to.
“Home” you grunted, turning to face your captain.
“Leaving with someone again?” She raised her eyebrows at you, but it was in a more teasing fashion than the previous time you’d had this conversation.
“No, but have fun with her” you mumbled, nodding your head over at the woman who was stood waiting for Alexia. “So much for that’s not how we do things here” you added, imitating her accent and leaving before anything else could be said.
“Ale, is everything okay?” Alba asked. The woman Alexia was talking to all night, was her sister, Alba. She’d already told you, that’s not how things were done here and if anybody was one for setting an example, it was Alexia. You were just too caught up in your own head to even bother allowing herself to explain.
“Fine Alba, sí” Alexia smiled as best she could. You’d somehow managed on your way from the booth to the door to find a girl and went home with her. You decided to go back to her apartment, so it was easier to get out the next morning.
You’d woken the next morning thankfully before the girl had, and got out of there as quickly as possible. When you got home and memories of last night started coming back to you. You realised you might, just might, be into Alexia. Shit.
-
You decided it was easier to keep it to yourself, your newly discovered feelings. Lucy had told you not to go there, but it was different. You didn’t want to just sleep with Alexia, you wanted to date her. You’d never felt this way about a girl before and it was overwhelming. The thought of having what Tobin has with Christen, you always thought you didn’t want it. But you did want it, just with Alexia.
You found yourself drifting towards her at training and on match days, but never saying much. You’d become quiet, almost like a shell of your former self.
“You alright mate?” Lucy asked when she’d came into the gym a few minutes after you did. You had already started your workout when she interrupted.
“Yeah I’m good man, you?” You replied, dropping your weights onto the ground.
“You seem a bit distant lately” she shrugged. “Are you homesick or something?” She asked. You weren’t homesick, you talked to Tobin a lot. But it was easier to say that you were homesick than to admit you liked Alexia.
“Uh, yeah” you nodded.
“I’m sorry mate, I get it’s tough” she smiled softly as she patted your shoulder. You just got on with the session, no longer thinking about your conversation with Lucy.
“Well?” Ona asked as Lucy walked back up to her. Lucy had spoken to Ona about you being distant from her as she was afraid she may have done something to upset you.
“Homesick” Lucy shrugged.
“You know Tobin, why don’t you call her? Invite her here?” Ona suggested.
“What if it backfires?” Lucy frowned.
“It won’t backfire bebé, it’ll make her happy” Ona smiled. Lucy shot Leah a quick text message to ask for Tobin’s number, which her English captain willingly gave over.
It was later in the day when Ona was cooking dinner in the pair’s apartment that Lucy called Tobin.
“Hello, Tobin speaking” your sister was always so formal on the phone.
“Hey Tobin, uh, it’s Lucy. Lucy Bronze” Lucy replied.
“Oh hey man, how are you?” Tobin asked before suddenly panicking as to why Lucy Bronze was currently on the other side of the phone. “Is everything alright? Is there something wrong with Y/n?” Tobin said a bit louder. Her tone was panicked enough to worry Christen who left the kitchen and sat down beside her girlfriend.
“What? No. Well, I don’t know” Lucy sighed. “She said she’s homesick” Lucy mumbled.
“Homesick?” Tobin frowned. “She hasn’t mentioned being homesick to me”
“That doesn’t mean she isn’t” Christen hummed.
“I was just wondering if you wanted to come to Barcelona? Me and Ona can help you guys get here” Lucy mumbled. The couple in the States shared a knowing look.
“Come on, we were going to go soon anyway” Christen smiled. “I would be so happy if my fiancé whisked me away to Barcelona” she added.
“Okay, okay” Tobin laughed. “We will be there ASAP” Tobin nodded.
“Appreciate it. I will collect you guys from the airport” Lucy smiled before hanging up the phone.
Tobin and Christen were coming in 5 days time and Lucy could hardly contain her excitement that she’d planned this for you. She was beaming every time she saw you at training, but you were so caught up in your head about your feelings for Alexia, you barely noticed.
The closer the day got to Tobin arriving, the happier Lucy was getting, but you were practically crumbling. You could barely look Alexia in the eyes anymore. You were so far gone with the girl you decided you needed to do something, just to get your mind off of it.
“Lucy” you shouted at the girl who seemed to be in a bit of a rush, ushering Ona out the door of the changing room.
“Yeah?” She asked, handing Ona the keys to go out to the car.
“Do you want to do something? We could go get coffee or lunch?” You asked.
“Sorry mate, me and Ona have plans” her plan heavily involved you, but you didn’t know that.
“Oh okay, yeah, no problem” you smiled unconvincingly and nodded.
“I’ll see you later, yeah?” She asked and you nodded again. She headed for the door, everyone else filtered out long ago, but your captain was only heading inside.
“Hi” Alexia hummed when she came into the changing rooms. You were changed already but were just enjoying the silence, scrolling on your phone.
“Hey” you replied, quietly.
“You don’t seem yourself” she said while taking things from her cubby.
“Just have a bit on my mind” you shrugged.
“Oh, is everything okay?” She asked and you nodded, eyes glued firmly to the floor. “Are you sure?” She added.
“Isn’t this what you wanted? Me to not be myself?” You asked.
“Which one is the real you?” She crossed her arms now trying to meet your gaze but failing.
“I don’t know” you snapped. “You hate me when I’m loud, you hate me when I’m quiet. I don’t know what you want from me” you grunted.
“Who said I hate you?” She frowned, not like you saw that she did. “I don’t” she made her way over to you, but you quickly stood up.
“Are we friends then?” You blurted out, weakly.
“Sí” the Spaniard smiled and nodded.
“Would you maybe want to get a coffee?” You asked as the girl frowned.
“Isn’t your sister coming today?” She asked.
“My sister?” You laughed.
“Sí, Lucia said she-” the girl stopped herself from continuing when she saw your eyebrows raise and your jaw fall. It was then she realised Lucy may have said something about it being a surprise. “Oh no no no no no” she waved her hands in the air. “You cannot tell her I ruined this” she laughed.
“Shit, then I need to go” you scrambled all of your stuff together before running out the door.
“Y/n” Alexia called as you swung back in the door frame. “We will get that coffee soon, okay?” She smiled as you grinned and nodded. You rushed off to your car, driving home quickly to do some cleaning before your guests arrived and you could pretend like you didn’t know.
“It’s just that one there” Lucy pointed at your door as Tobin walked up and knocked. Lucy had made her way back downstairs to her car by the time you opened the door.
“Hey” Tobin shouted.
“Surprise” Christen beamed.
“Hey” you smiled, pulling them both into a hug. “I missed you guys”.
“Well, let us in then” Tobin laughed as you stepped back for them to get by you. You had a guest bedroom in your apartment that the pair were staying in. You showed them your favourite new spots in Barcelona for walks, for food and to relax. You took them for a tour of the training complex, and that is when your sister met Alexia for the first time.
“Is that Putellas?” Tobin asked and you nodded.
“Ale” you shouted as she smiled and jogged over. “Uh, this is my sister Tobin and her fiancé Christen” you introduced them.
“Nice to meet you” Alexia smiled.
“You too” Tobin smiled. “Has my sister been causing trouble?” She smirked.
“Not anymore” Alexia laughed. “She’s been great, actually” she added softly. Your palms were sweating, which wasn’t only down to the heat in Barcelona. Due to Tobin and Alexia being preoccupied by their conversation, they didn’t notice how anxious you looked. Christen however, could read you like a book and that’s how she became the first person to know you liked Alexia.
“Something going on with you two?” She whispered as your eyes hit the floor and you shook your head. “But you want there to be?” She added and you nodded this time.
“Don’t tell Tobin” you mumbled.
“Is she single?” Christen asked.
“Yeah” you nodded.
“Why don’t you ask her out?” Christen asked but your conversation was cut short by Tobin coming back to you when she’d finished talking to Alexia.
“She is super nice” Tobin smiled.
“Yeah” you nodded, replying to both Christen and Tobin. You made Christen promise to not say anything to Tobin until they were at least on the plane back to the States, and in fairness to Christen, she didn’t say a word until then. It had been a nice week having them there, but you also didn’t mind that they were gone too. Now they were gone you could finally get that coffee with Alexia.
Y/n/n

Now?
Y/n/n
Yeah, at the one beside your apartment
-
You and Alexia became friends, really good friends. Always pairing up for drills, sitting on the busses and planes together, and always spending the most time on a night out with the other. She’d stayed in your guest room last night after the team night out. You had decided, when you two started to become friends, to just bury your feelings. It was easier to be friends with someone when you weren’t hopelessly in love with them, but when she emerged from the guest room in a pair of your shorts and your shirt with a few buttons undone, you couldn’t help it.
“Morning” she hummed.
“Morning Ale” you turned your head, now clocking what she was wearing.
“Are you making breakfast?” She chuckled, but you were still just looking at her. “Y/n? What’s wrong?” She frowned, stepping a bit closer to you.
“Fuck” you groaned loudly, sliding to the floor. Alexia dropped simultaneously to be eye to eye with you. She begged for you to tell her what it was before you couldn’t take it anymore. “I really like you Ale” you blurted out and the Spanish woman went completely silent. “I’ve liked you for a while now, and I’ve really tried to put my feelings aside to not wreck our friendship, but I want this” you grabbed her hand and she didn’t stop you.
“Y/n” she whispered looking at your interlocked hands.
“I want this. I want you in my apartment, in my clothes. I want to argue over who’s making breakfast and dinner. I want you Ale” you squeezed her hand a bit tighter. Alexia was silent for a long time until you prompted her to speak again. “Ale, please say something” you sighed. Before she spoke, she removed her hands from yours and sat fully down now on the floor.
“You are great, Y/n/n. I love spending time with you and I could talk to you for hours and we’d never run out of things to say” she smiled before her expression turned cold. “But it’s always going to play on my mind of the person you are or the person you were, when you first came here. It scares me you are looking for just that from me and then you will not speak to me again” she sighed.
“It’s different with you Ale, por favor” you protested. “I’m in love with you” you admitted.
“I’m sorry. I just can’t take that risk, not right now” she shook her head. It was silent for a long time, neither of you moving or saying anything before Alexia got up, got changed and left. And that was it, your friendship with Alexia was ruined and there was no turning back now.
-
It had been a couple of weeks since that morning in your apartment with Alexia. Neither of you had spoken to each other since that day, and it was starting to become more obvious to everyone that you two weren’t speaking. You’d just been going to and from training, never once straying or putting yourself out there with the team. They were Alexia’s friends anyway, not yours.
“You seem sad” Ingrid whispered from beside you after training.
“I’m fine” you shrugged, beginning to pack your things away quicker now to get out of this conversation.
“If you’re fine, you’ll come out tonight then?” She smiled.
“I can’t, I uh-” you tried quickly to think of an excuse.
“You, uh, don’t have an excuse” Ingrid teased as you rolled your eyes. “Come on party girl, you know you want to” she smirked.
“Fine, but just one drink” you sighed and held up one singular finger. One drink had quickly turned to seven and you were happily drunk as Ingrid pulled you towards the dance floor to where Mapi and the rest of the team were.
“Hola chica” Mapi smiled. She liked you now that you’d become less of a dickhead.
“Vamos” Lucy shouted jumping on your back. You locked eyes with Alexia for a few seconds before quickly pulling away. “That girl has had eyes on you since we came in” Lucy laughed and pointed to the girl. She was sat alone on a bar stool, sipping a colourful drink and she was hot.
“She’s pretty” Ona chimed in. Alexia followed the direction of where Lucy was pointing and quickly found herself looking at a girl she knew was staring at you. She looked back at you, knowing full well you’d be looking back at the girl with a cocky smirk on your face. Only, you weren’t. Your eyes were fixated on the floor and you looked uncomfortable. Maybe you had changed?
Alexia had missed you. She missed your coffee dates, watching movies on each others couches. She missed teaching you Spanish, she missed your cooking, your touch, your smell. She missed how you made her feel, and you made her feel safe being in love with you.
“I’m fine, Luce” you shook your head. “It’s not how these nights are” you shrugged.
“When have you ever cared about that?” Lucy laughed.
“I dunno” you replied. “But I’m honestly fine” you smiled. You had no interest anymore. Maybe it wasn’t meant to be with Alexia, but you wanted to settle down and find someone.
“Lucia stop being annoying” Alexia smirked as she came over and put her hand around the English girl.
“I’m just telling Y/n that the girl at the bar is giving her fuck me eyes, do you not think so?” Lucy was drunk, so now wasn’t time to punch her, but you really wanted to.
“Lucy, I’ve said enough” you frowned. There was an awkward silence before the song suddenly changed and a few of your team mates began to cheer. You were pushed by people further into the dance floor, falling forward and towards Alexia.
“Do you want to dance?” Alexia whispered as you nodded. She took your hand and led you a bit away from everyone. The dancing got a bit intense, lingering touches and lust filled eyes were being easily spotted by anybody who was looking at you two. Ona and Lucy were now coming to the realisation why you had no interest in the girl at the bar. You liked Alexia.
“Ale” you moaned as her body dug impossibly further into you. “We should stop” you suggested.
“No” she shook her head and grabbed your hands, placing them on her waist. “I was wrong when I said no to you”.
“Please Ale, just let me take you home. You’re drunk” you pleaded but the girl frantically shook her head at you.
“No, just listen to me. I love you too” she whispered.
“You two alright?” Mapi interrupted. You were too stunned to even speak right now, both of you were just staring at each other without replying to Mapi.
“Ale, you should go home” Ingrid smiled empathetically to the captain she now had in her hold.
“Y/n can take you home, sí?” Mapi asked you as you nodded. You wandered off to get Alexia and your jackets before coming back to help get her in a taxi. You debated dropping her at her apartment and leaving, but she was too drunk for that thought to last longer than a few seconds. You took her back to your place and you had completely sobered up by now. Somehow she seemed more drunk than she was at the club. You eventually got her sat at the kitchen table with the biggest glass you owned filled to the top with water. You’d left her there while you went to get the guest room ready and grab her a pair of shorts and a shirt.
“Come on, we’ll get you to bed” you sighed when you came back to find the glass empty now and her head resting on the table.
“I need to take my make up off” she groaned and pulled you by the hand to your bathroom. She sat on the counter and handed you her bag which had make up wipes in it.
“How the hell do I do this?” You laughed. She took a wipe from the package and started to rub your face with it teasingly.
“Estúpida” she mumbled with a smile.
“Okay smart-ass, give me it” you took the wipe off her and took her make up off, moving your hand more gently than the force she had wiped your already make up free face with. You helped her off the counter and disposed of the used wipes in the bin. “I left you spare clothes in the room” you pointed to the door of the guest room.
“Gracias” she whispered. She stopped at the door, like she was contemplating her next words before she spoke again. “Good night, Y/n/n”
“Night, Ale” you smiled, until she closed the door. Your head flung backwards as you let out a sigh once she’d disappeared.
The you of a few months ago would have happily taken Alexia home for other reasons tonight, but you didn’t want just that with her. Not even after she’d rejected you did you want to settle for anything less, with anybody. Alexia made you realise you wanted this with someone, even if it wasn’t going to be her.
You didn’t even try to sleep, you already knew you wouldn’t be able to. You headed to the couch and watched reruns of a Spanish TV show that you had no idea what was going on in. You were mainly scrolling on your phone, trying to think of anything else. It was around 6am, about 3 hours since you got home, when you were still wide awake that she made an appearance.
“No sleep?” She asked as she shuffled into the living room. You shook your head at her. You forgot about that day when you told her you loved her, how good she looked in your clothes.
“Do you need something?” You asked.
“Water” she nodded. You headed off to the kitchen to grab a bottle of water while the girl made herself comfy on the couch. You handed it to her before taking a seat beside her. She took a swig of it before speaking. “I know I was drunk before, but I did mean it” she began. “I shouldn’t have said no”
“It’s okay” you shrugged. “I get that I’m a dickhead. I just really tried to be who you wanted me to be. I get that either way I’m not good enough for you but-” Before you could finish your sentence Alexia’s lips were on yours. It took half a second for you to kiss her back. You pulled her onto your lap and she deepened the kiss.
“You’re amazing” Alexia breathed out. “You care for me and-” she stuttered.
“I love you” you whispered, cutting her off.
“I love you too” she smiled before connecting your lips again.
You and Alexia quickly began dating, much to the amusement of practically everyone. Long gone was the cocky, arrogant American who played with girls’ feelings for fun. You were now the resident American in Barcelona who was a total simp for your captain.

“You don’t really have a choice” he sighed.
“Well, I do” you shrugged. “I could just not go” you added.
“That’s not an option” he huffed, pinching the bridge of his nose. “Just pick one of them, or don’t take either of them”
“Ye are tryin’ to ask me to choose between my girlfriends when I should be able to take both” you grunted.
“Look, the ceremony is plus one, not a plus two. It’s out of my hands” your agent explained. “You should feel happy to be nominated, it’s not your fault neither of them were” he shrugged.
“Don’t” you stared at him so hard, he swore you were going to kill him right there on the spot.
“Don’t even dare speak about either of them, alright? Either they’re both with me or I’m not goin’ and that’s it” you warned and walked off before he got a chance to speak again.
You stomped back into the physio room, leaving him to see his way out of the complex and hoping he didn’t bump into Alessia or Leah on the way there.
The physio was checking your neck after you’d gotten a nasty whack to the head in your match two days ago. You were getting dizzy spells still, but you were fine really, just a bit uncomfortable.
“Hi” Leah said from the door, biting back a jealous scowl at how the new hot physio was running her hands along your tattooed neck and shoulders, while you sat there in a pair of small shorts and a sports bra.
“Hey” you moaned in a bit of discomfort.
“Is she okay to come in?” you asked, as Leah waited for the physio to nod before she stepped inside. The physio taped up your neck and excused herself for a minute to go and grab something in the next room.
“Do you want to tell me why I could hear you roaring at someone from the other side of the building?” Leah hummed, running her hands up your thighs, just skimming her fingertips lightly under your shorts.
“No” you shook your head, looking down at her hands against your legs.
Alessia and Leah had no idea that you were nominated, and wouldn’t until later on today when it came out publicly. Normal people would tell their significant others when they got told, but you definitely weren’t normal.
“Do you want to do it?” The physio asked Leah, handing her the muscle cream you needed rubbed into your neck and shoulder.
“Is it you or the other blondie I should talk to about what to do at home?” She smirked.
“The other one” you and Leah both said at the same time.
“Right” she giggled, going off to locate Alessia who you presumed was somewhere in the building, probably being pestered by Kyra and Vic.
“Is she good to go?” Leah shouted after her, hearing a muffled yes being roared back. “Ready then?” She smiled.
“Yeah” you nodded.
You’d driven separately today, Leah had driven you and her for your physio and doctor appointment, and Alessia had driven herself in a little later on as she just had media things to do today.
“Just gonna go say bye to Less before we leave” you mumbled.
“She’s in an interview for the next 40 minutes” Leah explained. “Do you want to wait?” She asked.
“No, it’s grand” you shook your head. “When we go home can we go for a nap?”
“Of course we can, Maccy” Leah smiled softly, cupping your face in her hand.
“Do you want to have a little snack and then we can go for a nap? And when Less is home, she’ll make dinner. Does that sound nice?” Leah said, moving her hands from your cheeks to the back of your neck.
“Yeah” you nodded. “That sounds nice” you grinned as you kissed her softly.
“Fuckin’ weird seein’ ye both kissin’” Katie gagged as she pushed by you into the changing room.
“I’ll meet ye in the car” you mumbled.
You grabbed your stuff and left before Leah could reply. Leah knew about your grievances with your older sister, she had done before you even were together. But now that she knew you more in depth, she knew you fully despised Katie.
“Could she not have just picked one of ye?” Katie chuckled.
“That’s actually a really rude thing to say” Leah explained, harshly.
“How?” Katie frowned. “How are the three of ye actin’ like it’s completely normal?”
“Because it is normal” Leah sighed.
“Yeah, right” Katie snickered, grabbing the last of her things and leaving the room to go back to media with your other girlfriend.
Leah and you were both silent in the car on the drive home, both annoyed at Katie’s comments but both not wanting to mention it to the other to rile them up more.
You were mindlessly scrolling on your phone as Leah drove, listening to her country music and tapping her finger on the steering wheel to the beat. Leah glanced over to you, anxiously swiping away messages that seemed to be continuing and continuing to come in.
“Everything okay, baby?” Leah asked, snaking her hand to hold your bare tattooed thigh that your shorts were too short to cover fully.
“Yeah, grand” you nodded, looking out the window and sliding your phone in your pocket.
“Something on your mind?” She pushed.
“Dunno” you shrugged. “Could just do with somethin’ to eat and a nap I think”
“Big bowl?” Leah smiled in a teasing way, as you chuckled.
“Yeah, I won’t push your cookin’ skills today” you added.
“Is the big bowl just a standard bowl to you, or do you also call it the big bowl?” Leah smirked.
“Well, ye always say I have real big hands” you added, taking her hand in yours and tracing the tips of your fingers around the palm of her hand. “Don’t ye?” You asked.
You, Alessia and Leah were totally fine doing things when one of you weren’t there. So, that’s why when you and Leah got into the house, you didn’t make it further than the couch. The big bowl was skipped, replaced by Leah’s body that you had over and over again, until eventually the two of you tired out and drifted off, having a spoon on the couch.
Leah sometimes found it cute that you would sleep through an atomic bomb. But now, with her phone out of reach and you squeezing her as if she was your own personal teddy bear, she was not finding it as cute. She could just about reach the TV remote so at least she could numb her brain until Alessia got home.
It was around an hour and a half later when the blonde got in, two pizza boxes in hand and shouting an “only me” as she kicked her shoes off.
“Hey” Leah smiled tiredly, still trapped in your hold as Alessia placed the boxes on the coffee table and the older girl made grabby hands for her phone.
“Been stuck long?” Alessia giggled handing Leah her phone, all too used to being stuck in that position with you.
“About 2 hours” she huffed, finally happy she had her phone back.
“Any reason why you’re not wearing a shirt?” Alessia smirked.
“Um” Leah playfully debated.
“I just picked up a pizza because neither of you were replying” she explained. “Think the Ballon D’or nominations start in the next 10 minutes” she added.
“Would you mind waking-”
“Bye” Alessia giggled, racing up the stairs and out of the room as Leah groaned.
“Maccy?” Leah said softly trying to wiggle in your arms. “Baby, please” Leah whined.
“Mmm?” You mumbled, squeezing her a little tighter.
“Come on, wakey wakey” Leah practically begged as you squirmed and removed your arm from around her to rub your eyes.
“Sorry” you mumbled.
“Don’t say sorry, Less just brought home food” she explained as you sat up instantly.
“Oh food” you smiled, grabbing a box of pizza.
“Really? That’s what gets you awake?” Leah said, shoving your arm.
“Well, I didn’t exactly get to eat earlier when we got home, did I?” You smirked.
“I’d say you ate plenty, actually” Leah giggled, pushing her lips up against yours.
“The dead has risen?” Alessia asked, coming in to the living room wearing your hoodie.
“Hi, baby” she smiled, kissing you gently before giving Leah a similar kiss.
“Thanks for the food” you mumbled, thankful your lips were now free to put your slice of pizza in your mouth.
“Do I get snuggles now?” Alessia asked, plonking herself down between you and Leah and tucking into Leah’s side while you ate a pizza and they split one.
“What ye puttin’ on?” You frowned, watching Leah connect YouTube to the TV.
“Ballon D’or nominations just about to start” Leah said.
“Uh, do we have to watch it?” You asked.
“Yes we have to watch it, what if one of us gets nominated and we didn’t even bother watching?” Leah groaned at how out of character you were being.
“Listen, let’s just watch this and then we can watch whatever you want baby, okay?” Alessia asked as you just went back to eating, not agreeing but also not disagreeing.
The ceremony ticked on and you could feel your heart thumping in your chest as it edged closer to the women’s senior player of the year.
“Best of luck” Leah said to the room.
She didn’t know that you didn’t need luck, and luck wasn’t going to help either of them either.
It trickled on through the usual suspects, Alexia Putellas, Lucy Bronze, Aitana Bonmati, and so on, until there was only one name left to call.
“This player has had a stellar season at Arsenal and for their country this year” the host explained as their two heads shot up, and yours shot down. “Showing consistent, perfect defensive performances”
“Unlucky Lessi” Leah sighed, rubbing your girlfriend’s arm gently.
“The Irish superstar has been a pillar of Arsenal and Ireland’s defence, while also netting 13 goals across all competitions last season, the most of any centre back in the world. Your final nomination, Ms Y/n McCabe”
“Oh my-” Leah began.
“God!” Alessia squealed, leaping onto your lap. “Ballon D’or baby? A Ballon D’or?”
“Will ye relax? It’s just a nomination. It’s no big deal” you shrugged, gently pushing her off you and standing up to go into the kitchen.
“Do you want to?” Alessia asked Leah who nodded and followed you into the kitchen.
“Maccy?” Leah said softly. “Did you already know?”
“Yeah” you nodded. “That’s what I was arguin’ about earlier” you explained.
“They don’t usually tell you unless-”
“Ye are in the top five, I know” you nodded, finishing her sentence. “He told me I can only invite one person, so I said I wasn’t goin’”
“That’s silly, you have to go” Leah sighed, coming closer to you and jumping on the kitchen counter, wrapping her arms around your neck as yours fell to her legs.
“Their rules are stupid” you huffed. “I want to bring both of ye” you mumbled.
“You’ve worked so hard to be nominated, I mean, what if you win?” She asked.
“And what? Only have one of ye there? No. It’s not happenin’” you grunted as you felt a pair of hands snake around your waist.
“Whether you go or not, I’m still really proud of you” Alessia whispered.
“Thanks Less” you smiled, melting into a kiss as you turned your body away from Leah, who found your neck with her lips.
“No” Alessia said, shoving Leah’s head away.
“I know what you two got up to when I was gone. You can clean up” she laughed at your girlfriend, pulling you by the strings of your hoodie towards the staircase.
“This isn’t fair!” Leah shouted, but it fell into thin air, only the sound of your bedroom door closing and Alessia giggling to be heard.
-
“See you later Maccy” Leah said, kissing you quickly as she wandered off, Alessia bidding you a farewell as she kissed you too and also left, following Leah down the corridor.
“I don’t get it” Katie stated, sitting opposite you in the changing room.
“Get what?” You asked.
“How you pulled both of them” she shook her head as Caitlin rolled her eyes and left, not wanting to get involved in the sibling drama.
“I didn’t pull either of them” you groaned, a little annoyed at how she’d phrased that.
“What’s your problem with me?” You mumbled
“Me? I don’t have a problem” she shrugged. “Isn’t the Ballon D’or only a plus one?” She smirked.
“Yeah, I already said I’m not goin’” you replied, slamming your locker door shut just as Lia walked in. Perfect.
“Hey” Katie said to her, but Lia completely ignored her.
“Hi” she said to you as you smiled at her. “Congratulations on the nomination” she said.
“Thanks” you nodded. “Mariona nominated too?” You said as she nodded in confirmation.
“We were in the middle of a conversation” Katie inputted.
“No, we weren’t” you frowned, turning your head back to Lia.
“Ye are the one complainin’ that I’ve a problem with ye, when you’re clearly the one with the issue” Katie said, shoving your shoulder as you fell back and knocked your head off the locker.
“Will ye fuck off?” You grunted, shoving her back twice as hard that sent her stumbling backwards.
“She’s not worth it” Lia whispered, standing in front of you.
“Oh am I not? Caitlin thought I was” Katie snickered as you stepped forward to literally kill her, but Lia, again, stopped you.
“You know what? I was so happy she left me for you. Because if she didn’t, I wouldn’t have slept with your sister” Lia said, staring at the girl as Katie was left dumbfounded, looking back at the two of you.
“Is that true?” Katie asked as you nodded. “Ye are a fuckin’ little prick” Katie grunted, leaving the room quickly as Lia looked back at you.
“You are as pale as a ghost” she gasped as your hand went to the back of your head and came back covered in blood.
“Yeah, I don’t actually feel that great” you trailed off before your eyes shut and Lia’s much smaller frame had to catch you. She took her phone out and sent a message into the groupchat
Lia
Can someone tall please come to changing rooms quickly

When you woke up you were lying on the bed in the medical room, your head all taped up and Leah sitting opposite you with an ice pack on her cheek.
“What happened ye?” You asked.
“Maccy” she sighed in relief as she stood up and you felt a hand squeeze yours, Alessia sat in the chair beside you.
“What happened?” You repeated, reaching up to touch Leah’s cheek.
“She punched Katie” Alessia explained. “And Katie hit her back”
“I’ve never seen your sister so angry” Leah shrugged.
“Yeah” you nodded. “Well, we got into it and then Lia told her, ye know”
“Oh great, so I got punched because my girlfriend slept with my best friend” Leah chuckled.
“Come on, he said it was okay to bring you home” Alessia said, wrapping her hand around your waist and letting you lean your body weight against her.
“Feel a bit lightheaded” you mumbled. “Will you drive?”
“Where’s your keys?” She asked.
“My pocket” you said as she put you in the back and took your car keys.
“Don’t take your eyes off her” Alessia warned your other girlfriend, who was throwing the bags in the boot.
“Hey” Leah said, gripping Alessia’s hand. “We haven’t really spoken properly since the nominations” she added.
“Yeah, I know. I’m sorry” Alessia nodded, squishing herself against Leah’s frame. “I know that she thinks it doesn’t matter because Katie’s been nominated before”
“Is that it?” Leah mumbled.
“And the stress of picking between us is killing her” Alessia added.
“I think I might have figured that out, actually” Leah smiled.
-
Alessia and Leah fought over the next few days about how to best look after your precious little head. You were off from training, and Leah was quote-on-quote “being given a breather”, as was Katie. So Leah looked after you during the day, and Alessia looked after you when she got home. You were groggy and down about the awards, but having two supermodel girlfriends willing to wait hand and foot on you was definitely a great distraction.
How could you ever choose between the two of them?
Well, not only was your girlfriends good at football, and really fit, the two of them were also super smart. As in super smart. Once Leah found out that Lia was going with Mariona to the awards, she slid in a suggestion that the two of them could present an award together, being captain of the country about to host the Euros and captain of the country who’d previously won it. And they actually bought it. They ate her idea up.
So, both your girls got to come, and some nice seat organiser had placed all three of you together, with Lia and Mariona sat next to you, and then some girls from the Barcelona team.
“You’re Y/n, sí?”
“Yeah, but my mates call me Mac” you nodded. “Alexia, isn’t it?” You asked.
“Sí” she smiled. “You are dating both of them are you not?” She said, pointing subtly to your two girlfriends who were both dressed in flowy dresses that took three hours to pick out.
“Yeah, I am” you replied.
“Nice” she chuckled, sticking her hand out to shake yours, like she was showing you she was impressed. “Not as pretty as my beautiful girl, this is Olga. And this is Mac” she introduced you to the girl sat next to her.
“Hola” you attempted.
“Hola” the girl smiled and giggled back.
The ceremony went on for a very long and boring time, until eventually it was your category. You looked over and all the girlfriend’s along the row started to fix something on their significant other’s outfit. Alessia was fixing your shirt’s collar and Leah fixing your jacket’s sleeve. You thought it was all for nothing, until the host read out your name.
You’d won.
You stood up and looked at Leah and Alessia who’d both stared crying in happiness, but now you were even more confused than before. Which one should you kiss first? You didn’t get much of an option as Alessia and Leah both pecked your cheeks at the same time.
“Now you don’t have to choose” Alessia giggled.
“Go on, up and get your award Maccy” Leah added, pushing you forward as they sat back down.
Lia gave your hand a quick squeeze as you left to go to the stage and Mariona shot you a gentle smile.
“Nice choice on the grey” Leah added as you stood on the stage, talking to the host.
“She’s currently got on grey everything, except for the shirt” Alessia smirked.
“Guess we can see that later” Leah whispered, taking her girlfriend’s hand as they both watched you awkwardly chat through the award acceptance process. God you were so big and awkward, and they both adored you for it
