Jan29 - Dumb Is The New Smart

What: Is a "Smart Home" really the smart choice?  Reliance on interconnected and often incompatible gadgetry, however, isn't necessarily the most effective way to accomplish a responsive, responsible, and resilient home. Using a suite of devices that utilize multiple apps to monitor and operate your heating and cooling systems arguably consumes more energy than opening a window or turning on a fan. Paul Dowsett makes the case for the "Dumb Home": one that relies on passive solar heating, shading, natural ventilation and above code-minimum insulation to regulate temperature and occupant comfort.

Nov19 - Toronto Wearables Meetup 30

What: The TWM is a monthly lecture series and gathering of people interested in wearable technology, wearable electronics, electronic textiles, emerging materials, and other creative approaches to things that live on the body. This month is AmpGear. AmpGear is a 3D printed prosthetic hand with interchangeable attachments. It aims to completely shift the paradigm of limb replacement from the current, strictly bound, and nearly obsessive aim to replicate hand function, towards an open discourse of prostheses as accessory tools.
