Jake loved his runs because there was a specific cornfield where he could sneak a smoke. Nobody knew he had a heavy cigarette addiction. Everybody thought his addiction was running. Who said hypnosis couldn't be used to help a friend start smoking? Joe's smoking mates had grown tired of his holier than thou anti-smoking comments, so they had dared him that they couldn't hypnotise him. Alex always loved sleeping over at his friend Dan’s house. Dan’s parents were heavy smokers, thus he could engage in his newfound addiction at that house. Dan’s parents would give them cigarette to smoke all night as they hung out.
When Dan woke up the next morning he grabbed a cigarette, lit it, and stood by the window. All Alex could think of was how jealous he was his friend’s parents were smokers. He could smoke all he wanted. Dan even had a little smoker’s cough from growing up in a house of smokers since he was a baby. Alex’s parents were health nuts. The best part, when Alex went home he would not even have to explain why he smelled like cigarettes, he could blame it all on Dan’s parents. Well, maybe he would have to pop a mint.

He was always told how addictive cigarettes were, but he always wondered what that felt like. That’s part of the reason he ever lit up his first red, he wanted to feel the addiction. Alex had always watched his dad smoke since he was a kid. He didn't think much of it. But as he grew older the habit intrigued him so. He asked his dad (as he smoked) if he was dying from the habit. He told his son yes, my body is suffering greatly from this habit (though you would not know to look at him). Alex was stunned to hear this, he had never seen his dad even entertain the thought of smoking being bad for his health. Alex freaked out a little as he pulled the cigarette away from him. His dad grabbed him by the shoulder and said son, it is all right, I wanted this life, and soon you will understand why it is worth it. This habit has brought me so much joy, and long after it has taken my life, you will be around to carry on the legacy.
Now smoke up. And so Alex did.
Lucas was spending the summer with his uncle since his parents were away on holiday. Uncle Tom was always the favorite uncle and Lucas was excited to visit, especially because his uncle always allowed him to do the things that his parents forbid him from doing. For as long as Lucas could remember, Uncle Tom had been a smoker, and Lucas was always fascinated by his uncle’s habit even as a child. On the first day of his trip, sitting by the pool with Uncle Tom, he watched as his uncle chain smoked through multiple cigarettes. He was already loving sitting there breathing in all of the toxic second hand smoke, thinking about how many times his parents had told him that second hand smoke was dangerous. He couldn’t take his eyes off of his uncles lit cigarette, nervously trying to work up the nerve to ask for one. But Uncle Tom saw that familiar look in his nephews eyes, and knew what he needed. He reached for his pack and handed Lucas a cigarette. “You look like you could use one of these” he said. Lucas could hardly believe it. “I’ll teach you the proper way to smoke like a man” he said as he lit up the cigarette for his nephew. Lucas didn’t even cough as he pulled the first wave of thick smoke down into his lungs. The nicotine rush was unlike anything he’d ever experienced before. He was instantly in love.
He went on to smoke another 5 cigarettes that day. The next day his uncle surprised him by buying him his first full pack of cigarettes. Marlboro Reds. Lucas was excited to become addicted as soon as possible. By the end of that week he was already smoking a pack per day. When it came time to return home to his parents, Lucas was already a fully addicted smoker, and all of his clothes wreaked of smoke which he loved. He knew that his parents would be furious but he didn’t care. As he sat smoking his cigarette, he thought about how he was finally a smoker and he vowed that he would never quit. Looking down at the burning cigarette in his hand, he knew deep down that his parents were probably right, and that he would eventually get lung cancer from these things. But like every anti smoker, they didn’t know the pleasure that they were missing out on. He smiled, took a long deep drag from his cigarette, and slowly exhaled. “It’s worth it” he thought to himself. “These lungs were made for smoke.”
