I still just… cannot believe. Someone would be hard pressed to come up with a non-romantic interpretation of this. I mean, Marcus at one point had romantic feelings for Mouse and that compromised his ability to finish her exorcism. His big squishy heart couldn’t take it. Now, Marcus couldn’t stand idly by and watch Tomas be taken by a demon and chose instead to murder an innocent man to keep him safe. He was not willing to see what happened to Mouse happen to Tomas. And wow the show could not go more out of its way to point these parallels out than it has in the last few eps of the season.

Not to mention the moment Marcus looked Tomas in the eyes and said he didn’t regret pulling the trigger? He’s literally telling him that he doesn’t regret killing for him. And that he would do it again. And the reason he has to walk away from him is that he would literally do anything to keep Tomas from being harmed. He would turn his back on God’s love. He would commit a mortal sin. There is no one and nothing in this world that Marcus puts before Tomas and I cannot believe this sad priest show has done this to my heart.

we should also at some point probably talk about how the show went out of its way to frame marcus and mouse as romantic in the flashback only to have there be zero romantic interaction between them during their reunion while also drawing a direct parallel between marcus walking out on tomas in the present day to him walking out on mouse 20 years ago when there were romantic feelings between them.

like i don’t care what happens for the rest of the series (and @god i hope season 3 becomes a reality after this), this episode framed their relationship as canonically romantic thank you and goodnight
