The near collision was enough to awaken the blonde from her rather clouded mind, her hands instantly lifting to fend off any projectiles until the familiar sound of a cup falling to the concrete causes a groan to fall from her lips. Oh, she made him drop his coffee. It doesn’t sit well in her stomach as she looks toward him and his rather staggering armful of what appeared to be paper- work. He clearly had a lot on his plate right now and losing his coffee was the least of his worries. But everyone needed the small joys in life and she was afraid she’d just robbed him of one.
” Please, no I’m the one that’s sorry, I was not paying attention here—Hi. “
The greeting has a brilliant smile curving her lips, their eyes meeting briefly before she looks around and finds that only coffee seems to be the casualty in their rather tumultuous meeting. Adjusting her bag on her shoulder, Gwen’s hands lift to smooth her hair out of her face before looking to the man with an apologetic expression, feeling terrible she had made him lose his morning pick-me-up.
” No you didn’t, I did—please let me replace your coffee, its the least I can do for making you drop it and without it scalding me. I insist. “
Oh. She's smiling. Spencer blinks again, clutching his case files a bit tighter to hide his confusion. Statistically, only about 3.6% of women Reid meets in any given circumstance actually smile at him. And the Data is skewed by the repeated necessity of interviewing prostitutes, so.... "...you.... you want to replace my Coffee?" The genius replies at last, glancing down to the spreading stain on the sidewalk. It hadn't been his first cup of the day (nor would it be his last), but at least it hadn't come from the police station's ancient Mr. Coffee machine. "Y'know, that's... really, that's not necessary, it's--" Oh, but she's insisting. Spencer bites his lower lip, brow wrinkling uncertainly as his gaze flickers over the young woman (well-groomed, book bag, student, most likely post-graduate studies judging by the intern badge clipped to her lapel) and her earnest expression. The genius silently wonders what Morgan would do, but... No, nevermind, forget that. He knows exactly what Derek would do. Still... It's unfair to expect this young woman to buy him coffee, particularly when the collision was just an accident. Taking a moment longer to think, Reid finally offers a compromise. "...You can buy me another coffee, if I can buy you one, too. ....Is that Ok?"
nobody makes my decisions for me. this is my choice.

Between killing and dying there’s a third way: live
Christa Wolf, Kassandra
Heaven knows we need never be ashamed of our tears, for they are rain upon the blinding dust of earth, overlying our hard hearts. I was better after I had cried, than before—more sorry, more aware of my own ingratitude, more gentle.
Charles Dickens, Great Expectations
A good library will never be too neat, or too dusty, because somebody will always be in it, taking books off the shelves and staying up late reading them.
