How to ask for donations safely

A simple guide to asking for support by someone who busts scam accounts on a daily basis. Feel free to share with your own tips!

- Don’t mass send asks to share your pinned aid post. If you want to send asks, keep in mind not all users are comfortable getting them. This can get you banned by accident if you spam them multiple times. Read the bio of the blogs or their own pinned post to see if they are alright with it.

- Don’t mass send DMs asking people to share your pinned aid post. This is the fastest way to get ‘shadowbanned’ which is when you can’t be found by anyone and you are hidden in the notes. This happens when you spam multiple users too much. I think contacting staff should get this fixed. Don’t multi-account to get around this and just spam again.

- If your needed amount is over $1k, it’s suggested to set up a gofundme if your able to. Not everyone on tumblr has that amount accessible and it’s not going to be quick that you reach the goal. There are other places that can help you if it’s necessary.

- Keep your askbox/messages open so if people ask questions you can answer them. It’s preferred you address any concerns publicly as in private no one else would see it. Be willing to provide anything asked for by redacting person information but leaving anything relevant.

- Do not steal someone else’s photographs. Do not steal someone else’s fundraiser. Don’t use stock photos. Use only the information that belongs to you. And don’t pretend to be someone else.
