How to get noted by your professors
- obvious one: don’t sleep in class, unless you want negative attention
- sign up for student council, become a faculty student board member, you’ll get to discuss with them a lot
- take care to always represent your fellow students properly, not just yourself, in the end that’s what may even get them to reach out to you with their concerns
- ask questions and I cannot stress this enough: If you did not understand something, if you’d like to know more, if you’d like to know further ressources, ask! j´Just make sure your questions don’t have very obvious answers to them in the curriculum.
- be well informed and on top of your assignments
- hand assignments in on time
- go to faculty events
- when choosing a supervisor for a thesis, maybe choose one with a generally little amount of students, they will have more time for you
- apply for student positions at your faculty
- if your classes are small, a witty joke in lecture might sometimes be very welcome
have you ever felt that you are doing everything wrong and your life is going on a path that you may not want to follow?
Oh to be the captain of a ship on a stormy and thundry night, sent out to acquire new territories by the English crown. Feeling the sense of fear, your constant companion, what will happen, if you fail? But at the same time the incredible thrill of the adventure. You lay out your maps on your dark wooden desk, pouring yourself some liqour, your first mate knocks and sits down in front of you, helping himself to something to drink as well. You discuss the sailing route and possible dangers, but with every minute that passes, you feel more and more lonely and as your first mate leaves your cabin, all you can dream of is the physical intimacy, you so dearly wish for, could he have given you that?
Asking professors you like for a personal assessment for applications to other universities really feels like cheating your alma mater.

Please hit me up with advice! Can an exceptional study program with enhanced opportunities for a career in research really be worth moving away from your loved ones? Your life? Your boyfriend?

I have this denim jacket with a large yellow stain on the right elbow, which is why I only ever wear rolled up. Sometimes people ask me about it and I wish there were a short story for it, like “Oh yeah, I got that in art class”, but I have neither taken art, nor can I paint, but no, of course it’s the most dark academia stain one could have. I got when after high school friends and me went to Paris on a long bus drive and slept in 12qm apartment with 4 people and went to the Louvre one day and one friend went back up, before we walked to the Mètro and I leaned onto the walls of the stairwell while waiting, not noticing this wall had just received a new layer of make up, to be pretty again.
And because of my cousin’s old, child-sized denim jacket, I will never be able to forget the colour of the stairwell in our suburban apartment in Paris.
wearing the oversized jacket, always having a book with yourself, walking a lot, reading in the empty cafe while drinking the black coffee, writing love letters and never sending them, and spending evening alone listening to vynils
A lady lives here that the whole village is afraid of, but once you looked a bit too long at the beautiful flowers in her garden and she caught you staring, then invited you in for some tea. She keeps all the restricted books up in her attic and doesn’t mind sharing them with you. The story of her repudiation is long and just wants you leave the town and its mindset behind.

I got to go back to ballet class today and eventhough I’ve missed it a lot, I’m still missing something now. The long break has slowed down my body, my muscles understand what I want them to do, they’re just not strong enough to execute it as good anymore, as I would like them to. I miss the absolute control I know I am able to have over my body.
Those notes where you have a class in English and most of your notes are as well, but every once in a while you slip in some of your mother tongue simply because it’s more efficient to explain and you pity all non-bilinguals who don’t have the power of choosing
Just wear the word ‘death’ on the tip of your tongue. Whisper it. Now scream it! Doesn’t it make you shiver all throughout your body?
living in the old cottage, sitting on the windowsill, drinking black coffee, wearing vintage robe, listening to the classical music and writing my own book here
There is something curious and at the same time frightening about receiving an email from a professor, written in the middle of the night.
On one hand: Just as their students, they are night owls. How charming.
On the other hand: So I will never grew out of this? You people are supposed to have your shit together!
