falling into you
act ii, part viii
Good night, Harry.
Harry lay on his side, looking at the flames. When he glanced upward, he noticed that the ceiling of the Room of Requirement was not a usual ceiling. It shone with stars against a night sky, but these weren’t like those in the Great Hall, replicating the real sky above. This was an enchanted sky entirely its own.
The constellation Draco glittered at its centre.
“Take a look at that.” Harry murmured, nodding toward it.
Draco looked up. The stars gleamed, clear and sharp, their silver lines tracing the outline of the celestial dragon.
“The room has good taste.” His voice was softer than before.
Harry didn’t respond. Instead, he closed his eyes for a moment, took a deep breath, then opened them turned to look at Draco.
Draco turned slowly, and his eyes found Harry’s, calm with a quiet kind of acceptance.
Harry felt it in his chest, like the air compressing slightly before becoming easier to breathe.
They only looked at each other, with a full, unhurried attention, trying to memorise each other’s faces.
Draco was the first to move. He straightened with his usual elegance, making sure his robes fell smoothly.
“I should go.” He murmured, getting to his feet. “Good night, Harry.”
Harry smiled, tilting his head. “Good night, Draco.”
He was never going to fully understand the particular tenderness he felt every time he heard Draco say his name in a goodbye.
When Draco reached the door, he turned to send one last look back. There was something vaguely troubled in his expression, like he resented what he was feeling, or wished he didn’t have to feel it at all. And without another word, he simply left.
Harry looked back up at the ceiling, at the constellation watching over him from above, not sure what to do with everything that had just happened.
Harry loves the way Draco says goodnight.

Voldemort didn’t kill me, but this certainly will.
It’s Harry’s last coherent thought as Draco emerges from the pool. Water sluices off him in waves, droplets catching in the golden trail of hair that divides his abs. Mouth suddenly dry, Harry forces his gaze up, only to lock eyes with Draco’s mouth. As he watches, the plush lips stretch into a crooked smile, a hint of tongue pressing out between his teeth. Harry, finding it hard to breathe, jerks his gaze up once more, only to fall into Draco’s eyes. Grey green so clear it’s almost translucent pins Harry in place.

Harry looked at his son, who was crafting a little broom with a twig from the apple tree in their garden and colourful pipe cleaners Hermione had gifted to him.
“I can’t do it,” Harry wheezed to Draco. “I can’t—I’m sorry, I just can’t.”
Scorpius pushed his mop of blond curls back for the umpteenth time so he could look for what he needed next, then reached for a length of baby-blue ribbon to wind around the broom’s bristles.
Draco took Harry’s hand in his and gently opened his cold, clammy fingers to take the scissors from him.
“Darling, sit and watch how a parent is meant to handle this,” Draco told him, giving his shoulder a gentle push. “His teacher said his hair is in the way, not that it needs to be gone.”
He placed a kiss on Harry’s forehead, then went to sit on the ground beside their three-year-old boy.
“My star, may I try something?”
Scorpius merely nodded, fiddling with the angles of the pipe cleaners, his tongue sticking out at the corner of his mouth.
Draco carded his fingers through the blond curls, bunched them together with one hand, and bound the wild hair with the blue ribbon, adding a little magic to keep it secure.
Scorpius looked up and up, as though trying to find where his fringe had gone.
“There. Now we can see your pretty green eyes again.”
Welcoming a New Day
This microfic was inspired by @drarrymicrofic ‘s prompt “bound”
“It was destiny,” whispered under the nurse’s breath.
“No other way that it could have happened,” a harsh voice agreed, the doctor if Draco wasn’t mistaken.
“Bound to happen,” a third voice agreed.
And it took every ounce of Draco’s considerable willpower not to laugh and break the illusion that he was dead.
“It’s only Mr. Potter that I feel sorry for,” the third voice continued. “He was so desperate for us to help.”
He resisted the impulse to roll his eyes.
A sigh and the doctor said, “Let’s go let him know.”
He only had to wait a few minutes, lying still and calm under the white sheet before he felt Harry entering the room. “Can I have a minute alone with him?” Harry asked, voice cracking with fake tears and Draco almost laughed.
“Of course. We’re terribly sorry for your loss.”
A moment later, Harry pulled back the sheet, “Are you alright?”
Draco opened one eye and grinned up at him, “Never better. Now that my death’s on record, let’s get out of here.”
When you’re dead, parents couldn’t have ludicrous expectations, the wizarding world wouldn’t be waiting for you to fail, and Draco could be completely free.

Charm, offensive
@drarrymicrofic | prompt: charm | wc: 200
“Good evening—my, that jumper fits you marvellously.”
“I—what?”
“Sorry, have to dash.”
~
“Er, what’s this?”
“Pastry and a coffee. You look a little peckish.”
“Erm. Thanks?”
“Any time, darling.”
~
“Excellent game. Well played.”
“Oh, calm down, I—wait, what?”
“A well deserved win. Good game.”
“Oooookay. Thank you.”
~
Draco took a breath. This was it.
“Hold the lift, please!” Draco slipped through the closing doors, beaming. “Good morning! I have a gift for you.”
“What the fuck is wrong with you?” Harry snarled. “Were you cursed?”
Draco’s smile faltered. This wasn’t going as planned. “No.”
“Why are you being so nice?”
“You noticed!”
“Of course I noticed. You’ve been … complimenting me. Why?”
“That’s how people are supposed to treat people they like, evidently,” Draco snapped, good mood evaporated.
Harry’s head snapped up. “Like. Like … like-like?”
Draco sneered. “What on earth do I see in you? Yes, like-like. Fancy. Daydream about all day and get chastised at work. Wish to sno—”
Harry pounced. Not the plan Draco had formulated, but all right.
“I like you mean,” Harry said into Draco’s mouth.
“O-okay. But … you like me?”
“Obviously.”
Draco pulled Harry close. He’d told Pansy a charm offensive would work.

“Why do Muggles do this?” Draco howled, holding his nose.
“They don’t use their face?” Harry scoffed. “Should’ve watched me.”
“I was watching our opponents.”
Harry scowled. “I noticed.”
“They have a literal viking! He’s—wait. Are you jealous?”
Harry spluttered; the whistle blew.
“Game.”
“So, Potter: did we win?”
