Last page of Giovanniâs Room by James Baldwin. Chronicles events in the life of David, a young American living in France, including his romantic entanglements with Hella and Giovanni, among others. Definitely worth the read; Iâm beginning to think anything by Jimmy Baldwin is.
without further YADOO i present to you my december 2013 playlist. these playlists are subject to change throughout the month so if you like a song, take it, because it could disappear at some pointâŚ
Last page of We Are All Completely Beside Ourselves by Karen Joy Fowler.
Follows (episodically and disorderly) the life of Rosemary. Touches on behavioral psychology, animal rights, and grief, among other presumably interesting topics. The whole is not greater than the sum of its parts.
Not worth the read.
Last page of The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins.
Makes the case for atheism.
Take it or leave it. My beliefs remain the same but I have a larger arsenal of assertions in my pocket.
My Book Smart Skateboardin' Kicks Rockin' Dimple Ownin' Subway Boyfriend.
This will be HUGE.
I'm a little ashamed to admit how ignorant I was about Lou Reed before he passed away. I certainly knew his music but I wouldn't have been able to connect it with his name, with any certainty, until now.
I was at the opening night of Laurie Anderson's Delusion at BAM several years ago and it seems likely that he would have been there too. If I knew then what I know now, I like to think, I would have said something grateful and intelligent and kind but realistically I would have likely said something trite and ass kissery. It's really a blessing I was in the dark at the time.
If you've got a moment, you should read Laurie's extended tribute in Rolling Stone. I will warn you, it's NSFW in the manner that crying at your desk is probably a bad idea. Certainly don't read it right after you listen to Perfect Day.

If you want to be righteous, get in line.
Last page of Another Country by James Baldwin.
Chronicles the lives of half a dozen or so musicians, writers, lovers, and seekers of meaning in 1950s New York. Racially charged. Sexually charged. Poetically supercharged.
Absolutely worth the read.

Iâve been on a vegan baking kick these days. It likely started because regular baking seems too easy sometimes - I know it will turn out fine because eggs and butter and cocoa powder rarely misfire together. Thereâs something risky about vegan baking; the risk being that it will taste like oatmeal and have the texture of a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. Fortunately, the blods (blog + gods â just came up with it, itâs a thing now) have granted me some solid recipes:
Vegan Pumpkin Cupcakes
Vegan Amazon Chocolate Cake
Vegan Chocolate Frosting (tastes good on ANYTHING)
I've done nothing notable with my life.
