Obviously, this is the MOST adorable. Neruda will be hitting a couple Tin House seminars with me today for sure. Thanks for being my kind of being, Tweetspeak!
POETRY CRAFTS!!!
Micro-Poem Embroidery: Allegory by James Yeary: NOW AVAILABLE!
NOW AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE ON MHP: Allegory by James Yeary!
Etsy Front Page
We hit the front page of Etsy a couple days ago: 600 views on May 14th!
Yep, people like to email us about the Etsy Treasury Lists they add myhorsemyhound press to. Loving this one in particular.
Yesterday was amazing. Up at 7, sun all day, talking with a past love about the beautiful times we spent together, and learning to letterpress - finally. It's really ridiculous that I haven't been properly trained before now, it's such a "me" art form - teenie pieces/meticulous design/metal&wood/etc. I'm in love. Expect so many projects. For my first go I did one of my micropoem Working Definitions in a deep brown ink.
Embroidered Lines of Poetry in myhorsemyhound!
Yep, just in time for AWP, the companion pieces to each fully illustrated & embroidered poem. Check them out, little quails.
4" Working Definitions!
4" Working Definitions (for those, like me, who like miniature things). This one's by the lovely Gabriel Don. Want the full 6" version with definition on the front? Those are available too. ;)
Embroidered Working Definitions!
We're now publishing Working Definitions (micropoems as poetic definitions)! Kicked it off with one of mine, but a definition by poet Gabriel Don is coming tomorrow! Check out the entire dictionary here!
Justin Sherwood
POEM
Biblical exegesis in which I smash the heads of the next generation's children against the stones. Where I don’t find meaning I find myself reproduced in quivering tide pools, however shallow. I come to the coast (all civilizations do) seeking my future. I find instead only my likeness will float.
Justin Sherwood holds an MFA in creative writing from The New School, where he was selected for the 2012 Paul Violi Prize in Poetry. His writing has appeared in elimae, The Poetry Project Newsletter, and Construction magazine.
Poetry Embroidery : POEM by Justin Sherwood : Now Available!
NOW AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE ON MYHORSEMYHOUND: POEM by Justin Sherwood!
Executive decision: hand-staining all embroidery hoops for myhorsemyhound from now on.
Getting ready for AWP means embroidering a handful of Justin Sherwood poems!
Next Up: Justin Sherwood
myhorsemyhound is thrilled to be embroidering one of the fabulous Justin Sherwood's poems. Keep an eye out.
Nadine Sierra Opera Embroidery - A Midsummer Night's Dream
Though my press/Etsy shop is primarily poetry-focused, I couldn’t help embroidering some of today’s most heart-stopping up-and-coming young classical singers as well. Nadine Sierra is amazeballs, and, lucky for me, is also basically my sister. Check out the embroidery here, and watch this clip of her below performing Caro nome in Florida Grand Opera's 2011 production of Rigoletto.
Lisa Marie Basile
When I see Alejandro I do not wear shoes. Because the sand is soft and the soft is always expanding and he likes to look at me! me flickering through all of his rooms, watering his garden, wearing aprons and reading books I do not understand. I cannot trust myself with books. Books with words: Even Eden was tainted. No one means to carry their burdens to good places. If I wear shoes it will compel me to leave so I stay down like a sea without nerve or hunger and I speak in tongues things of obedience, things of sex in the morning while Spain watches and sometimes I think she judges me, Spain, she is a woman who knows about being conquered and conquering and Alejandro says I am partial to my madness, that I ought to make him lemon water and make him love, We condemn our palaces, I say. I am drugged by moon shine and sea-salt. Your eyes are bloodshot, he says. Sleep. Before I sleep, I ask, where am I? Andalucía. Bad girls go to Andalucía.
Lisa Marie Basile comes from the bloodline of Giambattista Basile, the first fairy-tale writer. She is a graduate of The New School’s Masters program in Writing. She is the author of Andalucia (Brothel Books) and Triste (Dancing Girl Press). Her chapbook, war/lock, is forthcoming from Hyacinth Girl Press.
Her work can be seen in PANK, kill author, The Doctor T.J. Eckleburg Review of Johns Hopkins, La Fovea, Prick of the Spindle, elimae & Pear Noir! among other publications. She is the founding editor of Patasola Press, a micropress that focuses on emerging, established and female writers. She has taught poetics and culture at The Brooklyn Brainery.
She is an assistant editor for Fifth Wednesday Journal and a contributor to Thethepoetry. She also is a managing member of the Poetry Society of New York, which produces the Annual NYC poetry Festival. She’s been nominated for a Pushcart Prize.
