300 words a day…a single page. Seems so simple in the theory. In practice, the perfectionism nullifies. Took me so long to get here…which still may mean 100 words a day — but those words are almost perfect. 😅
I just want to note — in my 8-Tracker Player script, the 1975’s song, Somebody Else is not inspired by the female protagonist. It’s a masochistic* nod after the male character feels rejected and decides he’s only going to focus on making money. But, as with all rom-coms, it arises from a misunderstanding.
*misogynistic…that must have been Freudian. And, perhaps, synonymous.
I love this book. 🎨👩🏽🎨
Louise clearly wanted me to meet Betty…they were on the same shelf. Not certain I’ll post any sketches. Not soon, at least.
The Universe has my back. It always does.
aka $0.95 later…
I asked and received: Louise’s wisdom literally fell off the shelf, yesterday. I trust her wisdom. Gracious, her energy is palpable.
I’m watching, tears streaming so rapidly I can’t even see the screen, remembering the work I did that moved me towards a new life all those years ago. I knew zilch but I knew it was working, this practice of Beingness.
While writing the November novel, I had an acute awareness of how over-sexualized my childhood was. Meeting old memories created a complex understanding of why I chose someone who had no regard for me other than physically. The understanding included the years that lead up to that long, difficult relationship. Due to that, the book is in the drawer. For now, it’s just a lengthy ‘writer played it safe’ synopsis.
I’m not interested in being known as pure and innocent (that’s about other people perceptions), yet, the epiphany in aging is it is a sanctuary of sorts that has allowed more childlike wonder. I’m interested in living my life with a sense of childhood innocence.
The current book is YA. Though, I should probably be writing for toddlers.
Writing Sprints are absolutely invaluable to me as a wanna-stay-focused-on-the-writing writer... regardless of form. The book I’m working on is a product of a sprint not posted here but on Twitter in ‘21, along with the ones posted below.
When I get to a place of “writer’s block” these days, I set the timer and dare the characters to surprise me. The method is simple: Allow a character to tell a story using an aspect of a emotional experience I’ve had, even if it’s a minute moment. In return, I have promised to write at least 300 words a day in their honor. We’re habituating. It’s a spiritual relationship, for sure. Imagination always is.
Trigger Warning: Images of self-harm and child abuse.
Disclaimer: The story, all names, characters, and incidents portrayed are fictitious. No identification with actual persons (living or deceased), places, buildings, and products is intended or should be inferred.
Inspired by kinda sorta true events.
Reminder: You aren’t manifesting. The Universe/Source is and ALL energy within it. You are creating an energetic space for what is asked for to fill in by way of your intention and imagination.
aka Thoughts and Prayers followed by Inspired Action.
“Did Blake Snyder invent something that no one ever had before? Not at all. He simply studied the elements of story and character transformation and noticed an underlying pattern. A secret storytelling code…”
Hoist, Woman! ~ Blake, in another dimension.
“Because despite what you might think, this book is about so much more than just plot. The word “plot” on its own is pretty useless. It’s just a series of events that happens in a story. But structure is the order in which those events happen and, maybe even more importantly, the timing of when they happen. Then you add a character who needs to change and does by the end, and Presto! You’ve got a story worth telling. Plot, structure, and character transformation.” ~ Jessica Brody on what she likes to call, the “Holy Trinity of Storytelling.”
It’s back to the old drawing board, retaining many “images” that are subtly poignant or hilariously rendered.
It’s an Act II issue
…and the Universe does what it does.
Fade Out:
Now, the Peer Reader—she has done a bit of theater. I like those sorts bc they can often see themselves in a part which helps invest them in the script. I can ask questions around character believability and dialogue flow. They’re the reliable ‘back to the drawing board’ folk.
🤍 RIP
I’m so thankful I was raised on Wolfman Jack.
Once upon a time, there was an enchanted bookstore…
I wish that person well. I’d not met a bibliophile quite like them. Covid sucks.
IMAGINATION is the receiving mode. Most humans don’t get that. They think they conjure their imagination. You don’t, you receive it. ~ Abe, via Esther’s Wild Imagination.
