If there was one thing about Derry Malachi loved it was the woods. Something about sitting under a ceder tree a little late at night and playing his guitar made him feel all warm and fuzzy inside. The crisp night air, the gentle rustling of leaves, the distant hoot of an owl it all made him feel like the forest itself was listening.
He never understood why all his friends were terrified of the woods at night. It was gorgeous especially when the stars were out and the moon was full, the silver light spilling through the branches like a spotlight made just for him.
Then snap.
A twig broke somewhere behind him destroying the peaceful mood. His fingers froze on the strings. He opened one eye, scanning the treeline. Just the wind? A deer? He wasn’t afraid. Not really. Just... curious.
"Hello?" he called out, voice low but steady. "If you're out there, you might as well come say hi, promise I don't bite"
He knew if Beverly was there she probably smack the shit out of him for not being cautious and letting the possible danger know he's there he didn't care
Pearl entered his view cautiously, her shopping basket in hand, filled to the brim. She had just returned from shopping at the center of the town and was heading back to the farm.
“Sorry.. That was me.” She said warily as she eyed the boy hesitantly,
