you’re okay, just breathe :)
“what the fuck is wrong with me?” i ask, fully aware of the mood, personality, and anxiety disorders i have
gentle reminder
if for some mental or physical health reasons you have to skip some events or arrangements please try your best to remember that it is absolutely okay; please try your best to not blame yourself - you well-being will always be important, so please take care of yourself
Let yourself rest.♡
With chronic illness, even if you’ve accepted that you’ll never be healthy there’s still recovery
There’s recovery from bad flares
Recovery from being normal people sick
Recovery from invasive procedures
Recovery after you stop a drug because the side effects were too much to bear
Sometimes there’s recovery from other health problems that can be treated
Recovery from certain symptoms that affect you the most
Mental recovery from people not believing you and treating you badly for your condition
I think recognising these helps me to be more positive - I might not be recovering from my whole illness, but I’m recovering from another serious health problem that kept me bedbound in hospital for several months and that still counts
Chronic illness pro tip
Keep Doritos, or crisps, or biscuits or something long lasting and quick for when you need to make food and have left it until you’re sick with hunger to go do it because you weren’t able to get up earlier (I’ve never done that…totally…)
It’s something to eat while you’re preparing food so you don’t pass out before it’s done.
Coming from someone with chronic fatigue syndrome, it’s been a life saver when you’re stood in the kitchen thinking ‘oh crap everything is gonna take at least 20 minutes to cook I can’t wait that long’.
sometimes it takes so much strength just to exist
It’ll all work out, I promise you that.
There’ll come a day where you feel okay again. All things pass, and I trust that this will too. It’s okay to be scared. It’s perfectly normal.
But, please, stay safe and stay alive.
You’ll be okay again.
Tomorrow will be better.
Take a deep breath and listen to me in this moment. Your anxiety is lying to you. That big thing that seems scary and impossible- I promise you it’s not. You’re so much stronger than you give yourself credit for and you can get through this.
“I want you to stay alive”
Don’t Give Up 😤
Facebook / Twitter / Ko-fi / Buy the book [Drawing of a blue penguin saying “It’s okay if you need to take a break from your goals to focus on your health and well-being. You deserve to take care of yourself.” in a blue speech bubble.]
I am learning to accept that not all “good days” involve feeling happy and achieving everything on the to do list. Sometimes a good day is getting out of bed when it was the last thing in the world that I wanted to do.
“Be with someone that’s good for your mental health. Someone who brings you inner peace. Someone who challenges your bad habits, but supports your process of change.”
