@mymothershumility sent in "What are you doing?"
Her husband's office was as spare as hers. There were no pictures of the two of them, no pictures of their children. There was, just like in her office, a picture of their dogs. Well, they only had one remaining at the moment because her husbandΒ refused to get any more.Β
There was a thriving spider plant, which made Coatli smile. He wasn't the best with plants but he tried. She ran her fingers over one of the leaves before focusing back on the computer screen. It was probably not fair that intel for her department came directly from her husband's correspondences, but Coatli had never much cared about fairness. She rested her chin on her hand as she read through random emails, amusedΒ with the memo about the lost veggie platter. being forced to take a day off had not been on her schedule, she did not do days off so bother her husband it was.Β
Β She was practically hidden behindΒ the two monitors her husband used, so she was surprised that anyone even noticed she was there. Coatli leaned slightly to the side to look at who had dropped in on her, "Laira, I'm playingΒ minecraft, what are you doing? Thought you were still on bed rest."Β
Paused in the open doorway, Laira made a sound, little more than a hum. Not one of belief, but of acknowledgement. She knew enough about the other woman to know that she was not passing time so idly. Regardless, Laira did not pursue the matter any further. Whatever Coatli was doing was her husband's concern, not Laira's.
"I needed a few items from my office," she said, fingers briefly tapping against the designer tote at her side.
It had been a couple of weeks since the case she'd worked alongside the NYPD had closed. The bureau had placed her on medical leave until further notice, but loose ends still needed to be finished up. Statements, logs, reports. She could work on everything at home while she rested.
Most of the bruises had healed now, most of the aches finally gone. Still, some things lingered. Her left wrist was still in a black brace to keep her sprained wrist steady, and there were a smattering of stitches near her hairline, her hip, and her leg that would be coming out soon. It was an improvement compared to two weeks ago.
"Hal drove me here."
