Gwen Stacy really likes Doctor Who. It has nothing to with the fact that a once-off character looked exactly like Peter. Admittedly less fabulous hair, but a clone of him nonetheless.
Now here I go again I see a crystal vision I keep my visions to myself It's only me who wants to wrap around your dreams Have you any dreams you'd like to sell? Dreams of loneliness Like a heartbeat drives you mad In the stillness of remembering what you had
You go Harry, corpse skin is the new tan
Kaine whipped off his mask, frustrated and just done. “Yea, I look like fucking Peter Parker, okay? I was made in a fucking test tube to kill him and the other clone but I had Parker’s fucking monstrous guilt complex and ended gaining a fucking personality.”
He threw down his mask and frowned with his lower lip jutting out.
"Are you fucking happy now?"
Gwen's brows raised at his sudden aggression. She had clearly pushed a button the spider-like superhero did not want pushed. For a moment she just looked at him and blinked but then proceeded.
"So, are you finished with your 'poor, woe is me' moment?"
"For the record you don't look completely identical to Peter. And his monstrous guilt complex is a pretty good quality to have. Keeps you in check. Might be the only reason you were able to form a personality of your own and not turn into some Frankenstein-esque psycho-killer."
"What are you observing me for then, didn’t you get a good enough look, last night? Am I going to be a part of some science experiment?"
"That's exactly why I'm observing you," she teased. "I have a van waiting downstairs to transport you and everything...."
"It’s rude to stare, you know that?"
"I'm not staring...just observing."
"Under control? Yyyyyyeah, let’s call it that. Pretend that that’s how it really is," he snorted, and then grinned. "You know, I happen to know a guy who owns a multi-billion-dollar research and development company, who would be more than excited to have a pretty bio-chemist come and work for him…"
Gwen laughed at his sarcasm and rolled her eyes. "You're the youngest CEO I know. I think that's pretty under control," she told him with a smile. "Oh? Is he a nice guy? You know I hate working for pricks," she teased. "And if my upcoming interview at this one lab doesn't work out I'll let you know...so that you can put in a good word for me," she said with a wink.
Crossing Paths
“If you’re offering to buy me food, I’m never going to say no. You remembered the way into my heart, Gwendolyn.” He scratched the back of his neck awkwardly. Gwen Stacy always had a way of making him feel like he was right back in high school, and not in the way where he was the jock superstar big man on campus. She was the one who knew how much he’d struggled, working with him after class on homework to get his grades up while he nursed the worst teenage crush on the smart girl who only had eyes for Parker.
The soldier offered her his arm. “Just tell me where we’re going and you’ve got me for the afternoon. I’ve got to make sure you don’t run into any more trouble. I swear, no one gets caught up in trouble as much as you do, I’m glad to see you’re still upholding the tradition.” He beamed, looking a bit more like that boy when he was happy. “So tell me everything. You running the world already? Come up with a cure for cancer or maybe some sort of scientific monstrosity? I could see you going evil genius, you’d look pretty good with your hair standing on end cackling while lightning flashes in the background.”
Gwen couldn't help but laugh when he told her she didn't forget how to get to his heart. It was a no brainer, really. Flash and food, or any man and food was always the right way to go. She had to admit that seeing him had lifted some stress off her shoulders. She supposed she had always been worried about him this entire time and knowing he was alright put that part of her mind at ease. "Does that mean i was out of your heart?" She asked teasingly, pouting slightly.
"There's this super amazing Mexican place a couple blocks from here," she suggested as she slipped her arm through his. He was definitely a lot more muscular than he had been the last time she saw him-- it felt good. "Oh," she laughed. "You know me...can't stay out of trouble if my life depended on it," she laughed again, hugging his arm slightly. It was nice to see him smile again. It reminded her of what they were like back in high school when the only things they worried about were trivial things. "Nope, not running the world, unfortunately," she said, looking up at him. His face seemed rougher. "I am not an evil scientist! I am working on some major research though. Not exactly a cure for cancer...but it could cure something. Just not so sure yet," she told him with a small shrug. "I'd bore you with the details anyway," she laughed. "What about you? Where have you been? No phone calls....texts....surprise visits...I was worried."
Harry made a face. “Oh, you know. Lots of cleanup work,” he laughed weakly. “Taking care of things at OsCorp, and around the city. Laying plans, preparing for the future. Trying to be dad, without actually being dad if you know what I mean. How’ve you been?”
Gwen smiled and nodded, understanding what he meant about his father. "Sounds like you have life under control," she said. "I'm just busy with research, you know how that gets. I'm trying to get a job somewhere with better resources though..."
"It would be better late than never but I can understand your apprehension," the blonde admitted with a shrug, "I would think that if they really were your friends that they would understand or perhaps I am mistaken." The fractional inclination of her head was the only acknowledgement the sorceress would give for the margin of error, the intricacies of friendship always having eluded her. Gwen’s comment elevated the edges of her mouth, her grin fleetingly displaying two rows of pearly whites before she stood in a stretch of sinewy limbs, echoing the other blonde’s words to sound less suspicious. "I too could use a drink."
Gwen shrugged at her words again, not feeling very comfortable with the idea of confronting the two about their relationship. Maybe she was just having a hard time of letting go. It was nice to have someone feel with her though, she'd admit that. Happy to see that Amora was on board for drinks, she stood up and offered her hand to her to help her up. "So, my place or more like a bar scene?" She asked.
Broken Beakers
The younger blonde looked up her eyes wide with worry. “But see Gwen that the thing!” A glint of determination passed her features as she continued. “It’s my responsibility to worry because i was given something that can be used to help people!” She bit her lip focusing on the soles of her sneakers as she looked down. “And if I can’t protect the people I love then how am I ever going to call myself a hero!” She nodded at what her friend said. “And I know that I tend to make people worry about me but I’ve told them this before and i’m gonna tell you this too because I don’t want people to worry about me as much!” She leaned forward gently taking Gwen’s hands in her’s and squeezing lightly. “I can hold out on my own!”
Cassie nodded, relief showing in her eyes as she squeezed her hands again, hoping that the tiny gesture would get her message across. “Thank you Gwen! And I promise I will try to lead as much of a normal life as I can!” She smiled. “I may be a hero but i’m still a teen and I still hate doing laundry and I still struggle in the kitchen and I annoy the crap out of the people at SHIELD!” She sniggered, as she recalled all the trouble she had caused at the facility, for other Agents. “And I also promise to call you whenever I need you if you do the same with me!”
Gwen was happy to see that the young girl was confident in herself. Confidence always made a person stronger, but Cassie was still young and hadn't been too tainted by the world just yet. Gwen just hoped that she stayed that way for as long as possible. No matter how confident Cassie was in herself she was still a kid, but Gwen wasn't going to tell her that of course. She would just keep as close of an eye on her as possible. "I know you can, Cass. If I didn't think you could I'd have you on house arrest," she teased, slipping off her stool to call in their food order. "Good, you better call me. If I find out something happened and you didn't I'll be pissed...you don't want to see a pissed off Gwen, trust me," she laughed.
"Hello? Hi...My name is Gwen Stacy I placed an order about a half hour ago. You can go ahead and get started on it now," she said, speaking to the man on the other line. "How long? Okay, thanks." Hanging up, Gwen walked back to the table and swirled in her seat before stopping to face Cassie again. "Speaking of teenage things..." she began, a smirk playing on her lips. "Any cute superhero boys I should know about?"
She was being willfully ignorant. That was annoying. Normally when he insulted women they slapped him and then stormed away. Gwen just stared him down and asked more questions that he didn’t want to answer.
Apparently, the only way out was through.
"Ever since my creation, I’ve had most of these powers. Spider-Man was part of my whole ‘life’, but I wouldn’t have called myself a fan."
Kaine looked just past her, unwilling to give her his full attention.
Nope. Gwen wasn't going to smack him and walk away. She was mostly oblivious to his insults and even if she did notice, she didn't care. She was too smart to fall for a mechanism that people used to deter someone from a conversation.
"...since your creation?" Gwen raised a brow and was about to make a remark but paused to think a little more. Normal people didn't say creation...they would say 'since I was born'. "So...you're an experiment?" She asked, trying to think of how that was possible. "Can I see yoru face? It's a bit unsettling talking to someone when you can't see their face."
Scaling The Building | Gwen + Greer
The transformation sparked a glimmer of intrigue behind her son’s sapphire hues as well as those of the scientist before her, trimmed claws glistened in the artificial light before burring themselves in the short fur of Greer’s neck - seeking solace in the knowledge it was his mother and not a second rate imposter. The green gaze that bore the potential to invoke envy from the greenest of pastures shifted to the blonde female with whom she had elected to spend the afternoon, the line of her mouth turning convex in response to the compliment Gwen afforded her with, unable to offer much more apart from a humble ‘thank you’.
Lungs expanded as the inhalation of air tested their capacity, the rise and fall of her shoulders that accompanied the subsequent exhale transformed the gesture into a shrug. “I studied it in college,” she explained, “I didn’t do anything with it though, but I have enough to get me by when they need an extra pair of hands or a fresh perspective in the lab, I mainly work with the Avengers though. You’d be very surprised how much shedding in the lab gets on everyone’s nerves,” her lower lip jutted outward, the woman nodding her head in affirmation while fighting the urge to smile at her own joke.
"I can give you the whistle stop tour of the labs, I’m sure someone will show you around properly if you get the job," the tigress reassured her, aware that her authority was limited in the labs without being recognised as a scientist. "If you want after that we can sit down and discuss what you’ve brought with you?" The query slipped past parted lips, claw tipped fingers burying themselves in ruby red tresses, musing auburn locks while awaiting an answer. "I can discuss your resume and credentials with Bruce afterwards if you’d like me to, rather than being unsure if your application has been read or even delivered." A sympathetic smile twisted onto her features, fully aware of the young woman’s position having been there herself before while being aware of the extent of the difficulties putting yourself out there posed.
Gwen was in absolute awe at the sight of the woman in front of her. She had to try her hardest not to say something stupid because the first thing on her mind was wanting to see what her DNA looked like under a microscope and she was pretty certain it was inappropriate to bring something like that up. When Greer mentioned the shedding in the lab Gwen laughed and nodded her head. "I can imagine. Scientists make big deals out of harmless hairs that normal people shed...I can imagine the hard time they'd give you," she laughed softly, occasionally looking at the little boy in the feline woman's arms.
When Greer offered to give her a quick show of the labs Gwen nodded, "That sounds great! I can't wait to see what they look like. I bet it could make the lab at my current job cry," she laughed. This was SHIELD afterall. Everything they worked with had to be up-to-date...maybe even surpassing the most up-to-date; somewhat futuristic. The young scientist could only imagine the fun she'd have in a high-tech lab where everything she could ever need was all there for her within reach. The people she could be working with would also have the same passions as she did and wouldn't look at her like she was crazy if she mentioned mutants or anything close to that idea. She'd be right where she belonged and could do a lot more with her science than she could anywhere else.
When Greer mentioned talking to Bruce, Gwen looked at her appreciatively. "Greer...if you could do that for me...I'd be so grateful," she said, touched by her offer. If Gwen could get to Bruce then she might actually have a chance at getting a job with SHIELD. "Like...so grateful. I'd babysit your son all day everyday if you want me to."
Coffee Stains
An harmonious chuckle emerged from the assassin’s throat as consequence of the other’s fortune cookie quote. ”That’s very wise of you, Miss Stacy.” Even the woman with the red curlicues couldn’t suppress a smile, though she honestly wasn’t even certain whether she wanted to or not. The usage of Gwen’s surname wasn’t to create distance between them and make their conversation more formal or whatsoever, but more of a manner of lightly teasing her. She had spoken to her almost as if though she was professor and brilliant for coming up with that, which she kind of was, but nonetheless. ”I’ll remember that one.” Frantically nodding, she added ”It’s good. I’m definitely stealing it and using it on Barton later.”
”If I go home I’d probably just get called by my work again because some drug lord in Mexico has stolen money from some guy and that guy is now intending to start a war while another guy is declaring war because of the drugs and they really want me to fix it.” She blinked a couple of times, before running a hand through her red curlicues and adding. ”A little disclaimer: that wasn’t actual information. I just completely made that up.” She had been in a comparable situation numerous times before though - and drug wars happened every day. Mexicans were like dramatic teenagers in the way they behaved when someone touched their drugs. Heck, people were all together behaving like dramatic teenagers.
Natasha took another sip of her coffee, before slinging her bag over her shoulder and repositioning herself in a more comfortable position. She had thus far successfully ignored the stares she got from people, but the waitress’ eyes were on a place that was definitely not any place appropriate - it made her feel somewhat uncomfortable, as well as amused, honestly. ”Shopping it is.” At last she decided, before moving forward and towards the exit. Realising Gwen wasn’t following, she shot a quick smile at the other, though she never once slowed down. ”So are you coming or what?”
Gwen had to contain herself to a certain degree. Natasha saying that her words were wise only made the genius feel like an even bigger genius. She always knew she was smart but to hear someone else tell her -someone like Natasha- only made her want to hide away in the dark. It was just as good as being called pretty on a date. She didn't know what she would call her attraction to the SHIELD agent. It wasn't exactly a girl crush -then again, it could be- and it wasn't a full on infatuation, buts he knew she was very fond of the woman.
While the redhead explained what going home could lead to, Gwen's eyes widened slowly. Drug Lords and wars? Although Gwen had no experience with those kinds of situations she had to admit they did sound tempting. It beat sitting in a lab all day looking at petri dishes and graphs. "Oh," Gwen laughed, shrugging. "Don't even worry about it. I'm sure you did. I mean, even if you didn't and I shouldn't have heard it I'll totally act like you said nothing at all," she said with a smile. If there was one thing Gwen prided herself with it was her ability to keep secrets.
As the woman turned to leave, Gwen rocked back on her heels a little, wondering whether or not to follow her. She had a bad habit of gluing herself to people she was interested in getting to know, but she didn't want to intrude on the agent's day off. About to turn around and order herself a scone, she smiled when she heard Natasha and nodded. "Yeah, definitely! If you don't mind....if you do I can totally find something else to do with my day," she said, smiling again but following her out of the shop. "Not that I wouldn't want to spend my day with you, of course. I just...don't want to intrude." There she was rambling again.
So wrap your arms around me Wrap them tight And don't let go again And i don't know how you Found me, but finally It's time to run again
