Cheers!
This past week I traveled to London, Dublin, Amsterdam, Copenhagen, and Warsaw! I will be posting about each destination separately.
These are pictures from London! I spent Friday, March 2nd to Monday, March 5th, 2018 in London. I traveled with Branson, and we stayed at my friend Alea’s parents flat in Westminster. It really lived up to it’s expectation to be rainy and cold. We got on a big bus tour and traveled around the city. We toured Parliament, saw Big Big (even though it is under construction), saw the Eye, sailed under the London bridge up to Tower bridge on our river cruise. We also saw Buckingham palace! There were no guards out front so it was a little disappointing. We toured the Tower of London, and went to the British National museum. On the last day we toured Westminster Abby. We had a lot of food and drinks along the way!
This past Monday 20 of us went into Asolo with our Professor Simone to make homemade pizzas with Saverio! He has been making pizza for over twenty years and took his day off to spend it with us Americans. He taught us what goes into making an Italian pizza! In these pictures you can see me, and my friends Rachel and Joel and of course the pizza master himself -Saverio 📸
P.S. He made all of the female’s pizza’s into a heart shape!
This past weekend we went to San Marino. One of the smallest countries in Europe. It's about 23 square miles. We had great food, however the weather could have been better. Almost no one spoke English, so it was a great time to practice what little Italian we actually knew. We stayed in a hostel in Rimini (a beach town) Saturday night and we walked into a restaurant. Expecting no one to speak English I said "Otto" meaning there were 8 of us that wanted to sit down. The man replied something and jestured to the outside. I said to my friends he said it's full in here we can sit outside. He smiles and says "English?" It was the best thing that could have happened. He was so excited to speak his broken English to us because Rimini doesn't get many tourists. He offered us a "deal" and for €20 we can get the local wine, three appetizer sandwhichs made with local ingredients and two different homemade pastas. Everything made fresh and local. We laughed and talked for many hours with this kind waitor. The weather wasn't great but we made the most of it. I'd recommend going to Rimini in the summer. Excellent beach town, where all the Italian locals hang out!
Hello everyone! This past weekend I traveled to Florence! This was one of my favorites so far. Even though it rained we were still in high spirits. Found an American bar and had a WVU shot. Talked to some army guys based out of Italy and then went to a second bar that had a bunch of drinking games set up! During the day we visited the Duomo, and the real Statue of David. We toured the museum under the Duomo and learned about some Florence history! We were right beside a tour going into the church so we got some insider information which was pretty cool. We stopped at a local wine bar for tapas and wine from the Tuscany region. We met a couple there from Portugal (her) and France (him) and they were giving us some wine options to try out! Great weekend and I definitely would go back
Carnival, Venezia!
Brussels!
Last night in Barcelona
Barcelona, Spain
Barcelona, Spain
Happy Thursday everyone! Just wanted to share some pictures from my Travel weekend to Barcelona, Brussels, and Venice! I’ll be making a few other posts with just pictures so stay tuned!
Myself, Courtney, Brooke, Michael, Branson, Anibal, and Javier flew into Barcelona on Friday the 9th. We didn’t land until about 11:30 at night and we did the most American thing possible and went to McDonald’s before checking into our AirBnB. McDonald’s in Barcelona sells beer just in case you were wondering! After checking into our AirBnB, we headed out! By now it was 12:30AM and we walked all the way across town to the Dow Jones bar. Yes, like the stock market. Throughout the night the drinks rose and fell like stock prices. When the “market crashes” (which is about once an hour) sirens go off, and there is a swarm to the bar because all drinks are half priced! That was pretty interesting.
The next day we walked around the Gothic Quarter on Las Ramblas, saw the famous churches of La Sagrada Familia and The Catedral de Barcelona. We explored through Barcelona’s City Hall and toured Museu Picasso. We travled to Montjuic, and around Park Guell. There was the Carnaval de Sitges going on and there were street performers, and parades, and protests, and there were so many people out and about that it was just truly a blessing to be immersed in their culture. We got Paella and Sangria’s and I ended the last night receiving a rose from a Pakistani man who spoke Spanish.
The next morning we woke up and headed to Brussel’s for the day! We had a 9 hour layover so we took a train into center city and got waffles and went on a small Beer Museum tour which ended in a local brewery’s special dark Belgium beer for free! Not a beer far - but I drank it - it wasn’t half bad.
We ended our weekend at Carnival in Venice. We got some wine in juice boxes and were good to go for the day! Met up with many people from my program and spent the day wandering around Venice. Visited Piazza San Marco, The Rialto Bridge, and Lorenzo Quinn‘s famous statues “Support”. Overall this weekend was amazing, and I am so excited to be able to travel more, and see more, and truly thrive.
Monday night all of us went to a gourmet 7 course Italian meal. We had all the way from prosciutto and onion rissoto to creamy spinach pastry cups, to 1936 Prosecco and an orange ice cream desert. Most courses were pretty good, some not so much. But definitely filled us up! Looking forward to the next one
Some more pictures of Asolo! Enjoy!
