Journal - 7/22/14

Later today I’m going to go downtown and meet with Derek for dinner. So basically this will be the first time going on the train to the city by myself. Well, I will be fine, especially if I just pretend I’m just going down to Portland on the Max. Basically the same, you know. Plus, God do I want to get out!

Saturday we decided to go to the Maritime Museum in which we had a pretty bored info lady at the booth who just jumped to see a couple of people.

I really had a good weekend with Derek. Our 1st full weekend together. We went out to the city catching the train. So now I feel confident taking the train again. Feels just about the same as the Max at home.

Journal - 7/16/14 continued

Yesterday I made a little coffee cake as an experiment. I had Derek try a few pieces and he said it tasted alright. I guess he had already had a coffee cake the previous night when he went out to dinner with some navy friends. At least he thought about inviting me, but it’s true I’m worried about going out on my own, so I can’t complain.

But as far as our relationship, there needs to be balance. I’m the one who’s off kilter, with less “power” for a lack of a better word. If we’re going to go some place, he’s the one to have to take me. For now. And this brings me back to Derek saying I basically told him he’s BORING in manspeak.

When he does get home he’s tired. I don’t blame him if he just wants to play BF4 until dinner, watch the Simpsons, then play BF4 again until he leaves. But you know, routines are hard to break. I’m trying to create good habits now that I live some place new. I left home for his home, so while I’m uprooted, things are likely to stay pretty much the same on his part.

Truthfully, maybe neither of us know what to do with one another now that we are together. But I don’t want us being together to be mundane. It can’t be taken for granted! It’s just weird to wish for something for years, and then you get it and it becomes ordinary. I feel like I put so much heart into trying to let him know how special he is to me. All the letters sent, gifts, emails, photos… Lots of effort.

I love him a lot, but perhaps I don’t feel anything spectacular with him. I think really, the thing I want is to be told, SHOWN, I’m special to him. Words, actions, thankfulness, affection, SOMETHING I can hang on to for a couple days when he’s gone.

Journal - 7/16/14

I told Derek he’s not a romantic guy. Well, the way I bought it up was, I was laying on the bed and he was on his computer playing BF4 and I believe I said something along the lines of, “When are you going to do anything romantic for me”, or, I don’t know. In any case, he took it more personally, asking if I thought he was boring...

As I said, I’ve been here over a week now. That’s plenty of time to start making routines. Getting up, feeding cats, having a shower, making breakfast, watch the morning news, freeze until I turn on the heater, and then still mostly freeze. By evening, I’ve drawn a little, played with the cat, been on the internet; I’m basically just waiting for this guy to come around.

I know how excited I feel when I hear his car pull into the driveway. Just absolutely fascinating how I turn into a giddy schoolgirl and I almost can’t bare to face him. It all settles down after a few minutes, then I’m just glad to see him home.

He’d told me not to expect him on Wednesday because he wanted to study for his exam. Alright, that’s fine. So I laid down to take a nap around 3pm because I’m a granny. (I’m still adjusting to the time difference!) So far I’m doing better. Still waking up at 5am, but I didn’t go for a nap today!)

I was still in bed, and woke up; was just about getting out of the covers and then- OH MY GOD DEREK. But of course, I just see this tall figure walk into my, uh, “Derek’s” doorway. I freak out and realize it’s only just him. HAHA! Good grief. It was like 4:30pm, so I was completely unprepared for his unannounced arrival. Though however unexpected, not unappreciated!

I’ve really enjoyed when Derek’s been around. When he’s just sitting there, I can’t help feeling so drawn to him. I want to put my arms around him, stroke his jaw, kiss his lips, give him a big smile that lets him know I really adore his guts. I really want to be one of the good things in his life he can rely on. And vice versa, I rely on him when in need. Well, I wouldn’t think I’d have too much to worry about, given our friendship is OFFICIALLY nearing 8 years in November.
